They do many activities through the year but that culminates in the Cowboy Golf Classic Tournament held during the San Antonio Rodeo. The 2008 Tournament, held on February 12, 2008, took place at the beautiful Pecan Valley Golf Course and was a huge success! The results were the largest donation to date from a PRCA rodeo committee! Chairman of the San Antonio Stock Show & Exposition Fall Fest Committee Mike Cotugno was on hand to present the $43,000 check during the February 16th performance of the San Antonio Rodeo. Pictured are from left to right: Mike Cotugno, Chair, Fall Fest Committee, Sponsors Wallace & Margaret Brumley, Cindy Schonholtz, JCCF Program Manager, Fall Fest Committee Members E.J. Adams, Roxann Wolma and Shanan Wagoner. Thanks to the Keith Martin and everyone at the San Antonio Livestock Show & Exhibition for their commitment to JCCF! GEORGE STRAIT JUSTIN BOOT COLLECTION BENEFITS JCCF George Strait and the Justin Boot Company continue their tremendous support of the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund by donating a portion of the sale of products in the George Strait line of boots to JCCF. The George Strait Collection is one of the most technologically-advanced, comfortable and stylish lines. With Justin s exclusive J-Flex Comfort System, it s like someone broke them in before they even hit dirt. After the 2007 donation to JCCF of nearly $20,000 the George Strait Collection of Justin Boots had generated donations of over $62, to the Crisis Fund.
2 MIKE CERVI, JR MEMORIAL TEAM ROPING Once again, the Mike Cervi, Jr Memorial Team Roping was a huge success. The event, held during the Tucson Rodeo each February brings together the finest team ropers in the world to compete for great prizes and a big paycheck. For the past few years it has also served as a venue to remember a great team roper, Mike Cervi, Jr. who was tragically killed in a plane crash. World Champion Barrel Racer, Sherry Cervi and her parents, Mel and Wendy Potter, teamed up with event organizer George Aros to grow the event and honor Sherry s late husband, Mike. The group also agreed to have the event be a fundraiser for JCCF and to date has raised more than, with this years event s donation being $14, 500. NEWS AND NOTES Let Er Buck Video to donate a portion of proceeds to JCCF. There's a new addition to the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund section of the PRCA website. Visitors to the JCCF section can now order a copy of Let 'Er Buck! The Early Years of Rodeo and earn a $5 contribution to the cowboy crisis fund. The 75-minute DVD traces the early history of rodeo from the post-civil War era through the mid-1930s. Rich in the old traditions, it includes many of the legends, figures and milestones of the sport. Using archival film footage and rare photographs, Let 'Er Buck! takes you back to turn-of-the-century cattle drives and Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show. It provides a front row seat at great contests such as Pendleton and Prescott, and shows bronc riding, steer roping, bulldogging and bull riding as it used to be. Let 'Er Buck! aired on PBS several times and was nominated for an Emmy. Cowboy Downhill donates to JCCF. A great time was had by all at the 2008 Bud Light Cowboy Downhill in Steamboat in January. The cowboy s entered in Denver had a great time skiing and almost $3000 was raised for the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund. Thanks to Andy, Janet, Sara and the entire gang at Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation and all those who work so hard to make the downhill a success. Special thanks also to announcers Bob Fiest and John Shipley and sculptor John Main for supporting the downhill! FORT WORTH HARD LUCK BUCK RAISES $3000 FOR JCCF! The Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show continued the tradition of assisting the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund with a unique fundraiser. By teaming up with Warner and Stevens, each night at the Fort Worth Rodeo some videos of wrecks that happened at the show and had the audience vote on the best one. $100 was donated to JCCF for each cowboy in the video for a total $3000 donation JCCF YEAR IN REVIEW Now in it s 19th year, the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund continues to grow and offered financial assistance to injured rodeo athletes! In 2007, the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund awarded more than $410,000 to 53 injured rodeo professionals and their families. The participation in rodeo of these recipients included Bareback Riding, Saddle Bronc Riding, Bull Riding, Steer Wrestling, and Team Roping. Additionally, JCCF helped a stock contractor and numerous bull fighters and a pickup man in All recipients must submit an application outlining financial information as well a doctors statement. The full case is then considered by the JCCF Board of Directors to determine qualification. The Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund received donations from rodeo committees, individuals, corporations and various fundraisers in 2007 with the total donations topping $420,000. The Justin Boot company supports the JCCF in many ways including covering all administrative costs of the fund as well as making many donations directly to the fund for assisting cowboys. Thank you to Justin Boots all of those who generously support the fund and allowed JCCF to give rodeo athletes A Hand Up in 2007! Page 2 The official newsletter of the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund

6 Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund Cindy Schonholtz- Program Manager 101 Pro Rodeo Drive Colorado Springs, CO Phone: Fax: It s a hand up, not a hand out. JUSTIN COWBOY CRISIS FUND With no guaranteed salaries or injured reserve provisions in the sport of rodeo, these professional athletes are often left with no place to turn when faced with serious, sidelining injuries and the accompanying financial hardship. Recognizing that serious injuries can be traumatic enough without the additional burden of financial worries, the Justin Boot Company formed a partnership with the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) and the Women's Professional Rodeo Association (WPRA) in 1989 to establish the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund (JCCF). The JCCF s premise is to lend a helping hand to professional rodeo athletes and their families in the event of catastrophic injuries. The fund fills the void of financial hardship when the inevitable serious injury interferes with the careers of those who have dedicated their lives to the sport. Assistance awards are based on the severity of injury, the number of dependents and the applicant's financial situation. The Fund also takes into consideration the individual's involvement in and/or contribution to the sport of professional rodeo. Unique among today's numerous charitable organizations, the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund stands above the rest by dedicating 100% of all contributions received for disbursement to eligible applicants. This uncommon practice for a charitable organization is made possible by the joint commitment of the Justin Boot Company and the PRCA, which underwrite all administrative costs associated with managing the JCCF, leaving all monies received through contributions (and as investment earnings) to serve their intended purpose.
