The 2007 event will be held at the Pecan Valley Golf Course on Tuesday, February 13, It is a 2 man best ball, blind draw for foursome and registration fees are $ Registration will take place at 7:30 a.m. This includes lunch. All 2007 San Antonio Livestock Exhibition Rodeo Contestants play for free! 2 RODEO SCHOOL NETS $10,000 FOR JCCF The 3rd annual Thanksgiving Rodeo School, organized by NFR Bareback Rider Wes Stevenson, was a huge success. Stace Smith hosts the school on his ranch and supplying the livestock and other support. This year s event raised an impressive $10,000 while offering young bareback and saddle bronc riders a once in a lifetime opportunity to learn from the best. With Michael and Paula Gaughan as hosts, fashions by Wrangler and Rockie, Wine courtesy of U.S. Smokeless Tobacco, entertainment sponsored by Wrangler and Rockie, fabulous models and more than 200 prizes to give away it was a fabulous event. Special thanks to Tracy Hedeman and Stacey Custer who continue to put countless hours into organizing this great event and to all the attendees, models, volunteers, sponsors and prize donors! 4 LUCKY WINNER OF GEORGE STRAIT/PRIEFERT DRAWING Each year Priefert and George Strait Team up to hold a drawing at their booth in Las Vegas during the Wrangler NFR. This year John Tillman of Johnson City, TN was the lucky winner of a signed hat and pair of boots (left) along with a concert and backstage pass package to any of George s shows. Priefert has raised in excess of $22,000 with these great fundraisers. PRCA CONVENTION SILENT AUCTION RAISES $10,000 FOR JCCF When PRCA staffers Brandy Sorensen and Whitney DeSanti were working on planning for the 2006 PRCA Convention held in Las Vegas just prior to the Wrangler NFR, they were looking to add something interactive for attendees that would also help the rodeo industry. They thought a silent auction benefiting the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund would be the perfect solution and they dove head on into acquiring donations for the auction and planning the details. More than fifty items ranging from signed memorabilia to artwork to rodeo packages, NFR jackets and a signed fiddle from Charlie Daniels. Attendees at the convention competed for the winning bids on all the items and in the end more than $10,000 was raised for the JCCF. Thanks so much to all of the donors, those who bid on the items and to Whitney DeSanti who organized the whole event! JCCF BOARD MEETS, WELCOMES JIMMIE MUNROE BACK The Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund board met on Monday, December 4, 2007 at the SouthPoint hotel. The board meets twice yearly to conduct business of the non-profit organization and approves cases throughout the year via to insure assistance to those in need is granted in a timely manner. Jimmie Munroe, President of the Professional Women s Barrel Racing, has rejoined the board. Jimmie was one of the founding members of the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund and we are pleased to have her back on the board. 5 JCCF CALENDAR OF EVENTS January 16, Steamboat Springs, CO 33rd Annual Bud Light Cowboy Downhill This great event is fun for the participants as well as spectators. Come to Steamboat and enjoy good old fashioned hospitality, champagne power and one of the most unique sporting events in the USA! Schedule: 12:00pm-4:30pm - Western Celebration in Gondola Square.Festivities for this year s 33rd Annual Bud Light Cowboy Downhill include an afternoon western celebration in Gondola Square featuring: 4H farm animals; food and refreshments at The Bear River Bar & Grill. 1:30pm - Dual Slalom Race on Headwall. After negotiating the slalom course, the cowboys must lasso a person, saddle a horse, and cross the finish line in the fastest time and all in one piece. Grand Finale - The Chaotic Western Stampede On Skis! The Stampede, utilizing a mass start, pits cowboy against cowboy in a winner takes all race down Headwall. Annual Cowboy Golf Classic This annual event has raised more than $85000 for the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund through the hard work of the organizers and the generosity of the San Antonio Livestock Show & Rodeo. JUSTIN COWBOY CRISIS FUND With no guaranteed salaries or injured reserve provisions in the sport of rodeo, these professional athletes are often left with no place to turn when faced with serious, sidelining injuries and the accompanying financial hardship. Recognizing that serious injuries can be traumatic enough without the additional burden of financial worries, the Justin Boot Company formed a partnership with the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) and the Women's Professional Rodeo Association (WPRA) in 1989 to establish the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund (JCCF). The JCCF s premise is to lend a helping hand to professional rodeo athletes and their families in the event of catastrophic injuries. The fund fills the void of financial hardship when the inevitable serious injury interferes with the careers of those who have dedicated their lives to the sport. Assistance awards are based on the severity of injury, the number of dependents and the applicant's financial situation. The Fund also takes into consideration the individual's involvement in and/or contribution to the sport of professional rodeo. Unique among today's numerous charitable organizations, the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund stands above the rest by dedicating 100% of all contributions received for disbursement to eligible applicants. This uncommon practice for a charitable organization is made possible by the joint commitment of the Justin Boot Company and the PRCA, which underwrite all administrative costs associated with managing the JCCF, leaving all monies received through contributions (and as investment earnings) to serve their intended purpose.
