3 Section I: Program Statement Statement about the Program As a Holly Springs High School soccer play, you represent yourself, your school, and your community. Golden Hawks are expected to be a leader both on the field as well as off. In order to be successful in this role, the HSHS Men s Soccer program will provide a variety of experiences to encourage the development of favorable habits and attitudes that will prepare you to become respectable young men. Golden Hawks will have opportunities to serve the school, to assist in the development of fellowship and goodwill, to promote self-realization and all-around growth, and to learn the qualities of good citizenship. It is our desire to be known by our quality on the field and off. We will maintain the understanding that with learning comes progress and with adversity comes growth. Together we will recognize the champion in each one of us, realizing that as one we can accomplish the improbable. Through the Golden Hawk family we create and through the unity and relationships we develop, we look forward to the memories and friendships that we will keep forever. Our coaching staff firmly believes that continued success cannot be achieved without discipline and sacrifice and our coaching philosophy reflects that sentiment. Our soccer program is an extension of the classroom and will be used to cultivate moral character alongside athletic competitiveness. Student-athletes and coaches will strive for daily excellence in training, competition, in the classroom and within the community. It is imperative for coaches, student-athletes and parents to understand this mission statement as it will be the standard by which we are measured! Championships are not won today, but by what we have done yesterday in preparation for tomorrow. 1 P age

HSHS Athletic Code of Conduct- *1. DRUGS AND ALCOHOL The possession, use, distribution and/or sale of illegal or counterfeit drugs/alcohol, including possession of paraphernalia for ingestion of such substances by participating students is not acceptable and prohibited. If school officials receive credible evidence, such as police report or criminal charges related to a drug or alcohol offense, or have a reasonable suspicion that a violation under this section has occurred, the school officials will investigate. If after investigation of the charges, school officials determine that the participating student committed the violation, he/she shall be subject to disciplinary action as outlined below. Every effort will be made by the school and individual activity programs to make participating students aware of the detrimental effects of drugs and alcohol. Students and/or parents of students suspended under this section will receive information regarding counseling (refer to 6410 R & P). Any participating student found in violation of this offense at any time while on any school premises, including activity buses or other school-approved transportation, will be suspended from further participation according to the Wake County Public Schools (WCPSS) Student Code of Conduct (Board Policy 6410). 7 students and parents report to the school s administration any violation of policy that they are aware of. It is also important that this is reported in a timely manner. Bullying, Harassment, & Sexual Harassment. It is a priority for Holly Springs High School to provide every student with a safe and orderly learning environment. To this end, bullying and harassment of any form are prohibited. Students and parents should review WCPSS Board Policy 6414 in the Student/Parent Handbook for a specific definition of bullying and harassment. Sexual harassment is also prohibited including unwelcome sexual advances, verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature, etc. Students should review WCPSS Board Policy 6415 in the Student/Parent Handbook for a specific definition of sexual harassment. Students are encouraged to report any act of bullying or harassment to their teacher, counselor, or administrator to seek support. Students are also encouraged to report any act that they witness so that appropriate steps can be taken to ensure a safe, orderly learning environment. Interventions and consequences will be applied as appropriate within the Student Code of Conduct as it relates to this policy. Violations of these policies can result in out- of- school suspension on the first offense. Drugs / Alcohol. WCPSS Board Policy 6410 defines details of the possession, use, distribution, sale, etc. of narcotics, alcoholic beverages, controlled substances, chemicals or drug paraphernalia. Students should review this policy in the WCPSS Student/Parent Handbook. Any violation of this policy will result in a recommendation for long- term suspension. Fighting / Physical Aggression. Physical aggression or fighting toward others is prohibited. It is important to note: Students who engage in horseplay or taking actions that could reasonably lead to a fight have violated this policy. Self defense is defined in district policy as reasonable force but only to the extent necessary to get free from the attack and notify proper school authorities. Students who engage in fighting will be suspended for a minimum of 5 days of out- of- school suspension. Long- term suspension is a possibility on the first violation of this policy. 5 P age
8 Section III: Summer Fitness Packet Expectations It is virtually impossible to get a team or individual fit for a game regular season schedule, followed by playoffs in the two weeks that are allotted for preseason. It is your responsibility to do the workout program during the summer in order to be prepared for the long and grueling season ahead. The rigors of preseason and then the regular season can be managed if you are disciplined and committed. This program is designed to work around the hectic schedule that student athletes will encounter over the summer. Holly Springs High School soccer players are responsible for between 3-5 fitness sessions per week during the summer months (done by the player on their own) on top of the 2 weight room sessions per week and recommended CEDA Academy technical sessions (look at attached schedule for work out dates and times). Each fitness session will last no more than 30 minutes. Included in the packet are a variety of aerobic and anaerobic fitness sessions. A Fitness Test will be utilized at tryouts to determine each player s level of fitness. We do not train for a SPECIFIC TEST, we train with a purpose to play and compete at the highest level. Players who do not pass one of the two fitness tests at tryouts will severely hurt their chances of being considered for the team. It is your responsibility to hold yourself and others accountable for doing the fitness packet. All players are encouraged to play as much as possible over the summer. Coaches expect returning players to coordinate pick-up at Womble Park throughout the summer. Remember: 1) Always warm-up properly before any workout 2) Always keep a written record of your workouts 3) The best way to stay on track with a workout program is to work out with a motivated partner 4) Push yourself especially on the days you don t feel energetic 5) Avoid back-to-back days for workouts of the same type 6) Listen to your body. Seek proper medical attention if you have an injury 7) Your fitness level should develop gradually over time, not in peaks and valleys through crash programs 8) Playing soccer throughout the summer as a complimentary fitness component to your workouts Vary your workouts so things stay fresh; Don t run the fitness tests each week and don t do the same interval/speed and mobility workouts. 15 CEDA Camp In conjunction with Coach Amobi Agu, Holly Springs High School annually participates in the CEDA Academy High School camp. Instead of a typical 3-4 day, 2-hour camp, players will have the option to choose 8 1 hour sessions from a possible 15-time slots. The total cost for the initial 8 sessions will be $100. Players will have the option to participate in more sessions but will then play the normal fees associated with CEDA Academy. Sign-up details will be sent throughout the spring and summer to players using contact information obtained from the tryout forum (also posted on website). Although participation in the camp is not mandatory for a player to make the high school team, the summer long technical program is a great resource to help players with developing their technical ability of the summer in preparation for tryouts.
