2 2012 New e-template Features Starting this year, the e-template contains several new worksheets, with color-coded tables and charts to assist teachers and students improve student achievement. 1. HOW CLOSE TO HFZ -This sheet displays 1) how much improvement is needed to meet the Healthy Fitness Zone (HFZ), 2) by how much HFZ has already been met, or 3) the amount needed to meet the HFZ for those tests not taken. This sheet is updated dynamically as scores are inputted into the PE TEMPLATE sheet. Page 2 of 26

Student Reports and Student Charts buttons -These buttons are located at the top left corner of the PE Template worksheet, and must be double-clicked to activate their respective functions. When either the Student Reports or Student Charts buttons is double-clicked, a list of students is displayed with several fields of the students test records, and one, many, or all of the students can be selected. In the example below the first student has been selected. Note: Excel files will be created and saved onto your computer whenever the Student Reports or Student Charts button is double-clicked. Those files will be duplicated and renamed for easier grouping. Page 4 of 26

STUDENT-LONGITUDINAL -This worksheet displays charts for a selected student, and these longitudinal charts reflect a particular student s achievement over time. In the example below the student s curl-ups chart is expanded to reveal details, including color-coding green when the HFZ is met, and red when the HFZ is not met. Page 6 of 26

7 Important Test Administration Notes 1. Starting in 2011, the AEROBIC CAPACITY and BODY COMPOSITION Healthy Fitness Zone standards (HFZ) changed significantly. Students who met the BODY COMPOSITION HFZ prior to 2011 would have a much more difficult time meeting the new HFZ standards. It has been well documented by Evalumetrics that students with higher Body mass index results are at a disadvantage when it comes to meeting the new AEROBIC CAPACITY HFZ standards. For students 13 years and older, please consider the Walk Test in order to afford those students a better chance to meet the AEROBIC CAPACITY HFZ In order to score AEROBIC CAPACITY tests, a mile run time and/or number of pacer laps AND height and weight (BMI) must also be written and bubbled in the BODY COMPOSITION section. Skinfold and/or bioelectric components can also be administered as BODY COMPOSITION tests and recorded on the test form. All BMI tests recorded on the test form will be scored for the best result. 8 Important Test Administration Notes (cont d) 2. It is important to select a reason for not being tested or partially tested. If a student is not enrolled either in the district or has changed schools or classrooms, Not currently enrolled in this class can be selected. If a student is not enrolled either in the district or has changed schools or classrooms, one of last two options may be selected. Student test results with either one of these reasons will not be submitted to the CDE, and there is no charge for processing the record. Please note that Waiver granted by State Board of Education is no longer available. 3. A valid GENDER, GRADE, BIRTH DATE, and START TEST DATE are required in order to score and submit results to CDE. In addition, CDE may invalidate birth dates out of the normal range for each grade. Please double check birth dates that seem out of the ordinary. Page 8 of 26

9 Important Test Administration Notes (cont d) 4. Students must complete six (6) fitness tests, some of which have multiple options. However, both ABDOMINAL STRENGTH and TRUNK EXTENSION have one (1) required test. 5. The height range for the BMI test option is 3 to 7 feet and 0 to 11 inches. 6. Starting in 2009 a TEST START DATE field was added to the data collection requirements. This TEST START DATE field must be recorded for each student indicating the date upon which the student has begun the first of the six required tests. If this section is not completed a date is determined from the other TEST START DATES in that e-template. The Physical Fitness Test administration window is February 1 through May 31. Page 9 of 26

10 OPENING e-templates The following two conditions are required when opening e-templates: Microsoft Office 2003 To set your macro security: 1. Open Excel and click on the Tools menu. 2. Scroll down to Macros and right to Security and click. 3. Click on the Medium radio button and then click on the OK button. 4. Open e-template and it should display your class roster. Microsoft Office 2007 To set your macro security: 1. Open Excel and click on the Developer tab. 2. In the code group click on Macro Settings. 3. Click on Disable all macros with notification radio button and then click on OK. 4. Open your e-template. 5. Click on the Options button next to Security Warning Macros have been disabled message. 6. Click on Enable this content radio button and e-template should display your class roster. Page 10 of 26

11 CUSTOMIZING e-templates e-templates can be customized to display only the tests you plan to administer. You can request via or by phone that your e-templates be customized to display only those tests that will be administered. Customization typically results in fewer data entry errors than that of noncustomized templates. Teachers may customize their own e-templates by clicking on the Tests button located in the upper left hand corner (see page 4). Starting this year, selected demographic fields can be hidden in order to print the test section at a higher percentage when the e-template is used as a data collection sheet (see next page). 12 DATA COLLECTION SHEETS You can print out data collection sheets from your e-templates. This should assist you in data collection and data entry and reduce the possible error in transcribing results into the e-template. Microsoft Office 2003 To print out data collection sheets: 1. Highlight the section of the e-template you want to print and click on File menu>print Area>Set Print Area. 2. Click on File menu>page Setup and adjust the scale percentage until the data collection sheet is the size you want. 3. Select Print preview on the File menu and then the Page Break Preview button, and adjust print area if necessary. Microsoft Office 2007 To print out data collection sheets: 1. Highlight the section of the e-template you want to print and click on Page layout>print Area>Set Print Area. 2. Select Page layout>print Titles and make necessary changes to Print Area, Rows to repeat at top, etc. Note: Customizing e-templates displays fewer tests and may support larger font sizes for the data collection sheets. 13 e-template COLORS In 2011, green has been added to the e-template. As test scores are entered into the e-template, cells change to green when the student is within the Healthy Fitness Zone for that particular test. Red cells are indicators that test data is missing or invalid, and a row of blue row of cells indicates that a student does not have any test data entered (this is the color that you see when the e-templates are opened). Click on the Legend button (see page 4) in the upper-left corner to access the color legend. The legend also contains the list of RACE and PARENT EDUCATION codes. Page 13 of 26

14 ONE-MILE RUN FITNESS TEST Aerobic Capacity Test Option 1 OBJECTIVE INSTRUCTIONS SCORING Run one mile as quickly as possible. If a student cannot run the entire mile, walking is permitted. Students will begin on the signal Ready, Start. If necessary, someone can count the number of laps. The test is over when a mile has been run or cannot be completed. Test results are recorded in minutes and seconds, and entered into the e-template. Starting this year, height and weight (BMI) must be entered in the BODY COMPOSITION section in order to score AEROBIC CAPACITY tests. Note: If a student cannot finish the One-Mile Run, 59 should be entered into MIN and 59 into SEC. (Test example: student completed the One-Mile Run in 9 minutes and 42 seconds and was pounds) Page 14 of 26

15 PACER FITNESS TEST Aerobic Capacity Test Option 2 OBJECTIVE Run as long as possible back and forth a 20- meter space at a specified pace which gets faster each minute. INSTRUCTIONS Students run across the 20 meter distance and touch line with foot by the time the beep sounds. The test is over the second time a student does not reach line by the beep. SCORING Test result is recorded as the number of 20- meter laps completed successfully and entered into the e-template. Starting this year, height and weight (BMI) must be entered into the BODY COMPOSITION section in order to score AEROBIC CAPACITY tests. (Test example: student completed 52 Pacer laps and was pounds) Page 15 of 26

16 ONE MILE WALK TEST FITNESS TEST Aerobic Capacity Test Option 3 OBJECTIVE INSTRUCTIONS SCORING Walk one mile as quickly as possible while maintaining a constant walking distance. This test is only for ages 13 and older. Students will begin on the signal Ready, Start. If necessary, someone can count the number of laps. The test is over when a mile has been completed or cannot be completed. At the conclusion of this test, a one-minute heart rate is taken. Test results are recorded in minutes and seconds for the mile walk, one-minute heart rate and weight in pounds, and entered into the e- Template. Starting this year, height and weight (BMI) must be entered into the BODY COMPOSITION section in order to score AEROBIC CAPACITY tests. Note: If a student cannot finish the One-Mile Walk Test, 59 should be entered into MIN and 59 into SEC. (Test example: student completed the One-Mile Walk test in 20 minutes and 35 seconds, one-minute heart rate of 120, and was pounds) Page 16 of 26

17 FITNESS TEST OBJECTIVE ABDOMINAL CURL-UP Abdominal Strength Required Test Complete as many curl-ups as possible at a specified pace. INSTRUCTIONS Lie on your back, knees bent at 140 degrees, feet flat on the floor, arms straight and parallel to the trunk with palms down. Your partner should place their hands under your head. A measuring strip should be on the mat so your fingertips are resting on the edge of it. Keeping heels in contact with the mat, you should curl up slowly sliding your fingers across the measuring strip until fingertips reach the other side, and curl back down into your partner s hands. Curl-ups should be performed slowly and controlled (one curl every 3 seconds). The test is over when you stop, or a second form correction is made. SCORING Test result is recorded as the number of correctly performed curl-ups and entered into the e-template. (Test example: student completed 45 abdominal curl-ups) Page 17 of 26

18 TRUNK LIFT FITNESS TEST OBJECTIVE INSTRUCTIONS SCORING Trunk Extension Required Test Lift the upper body off floor using back muscles and hold position for measurement. Lie on stomach. Point toes and put hands under thighs. Slowly lift upper body off floor. Your partner puts a ruler on the floor in front of you and measures the distance from your chin to the floor. Try this two times. Test result is recorded as the higher of two attempts to the nearest inch and entered into the e-template. (Test example: student had a trunk lift measurement of 12 inches) Page 18 of 26

19 PUSH-UP FITNESS TEST Upper Body Strength Test Option 1 OBJECTIVE INSTRUCTIONS SCORING Complete as many push-ups as possible. Assume the starting position. Push up until your arms are straight, keeping your legs and back straight. Lower your body until elbows make a 90 angle and push back up to starting position. Continue as many times as possible. The test is over when you stop or a second form correction is made. Test result is recorded as the number of pushups completed and entered into the e- Template. (Test example: student completed 25 push-ups) Page 19 of 26

20 MODIFIED PULL-UP FITNESS TEST Upper Body Strength Test Option 2 OBJECTIVE INSTRUCTIONS SCORING Complete as many modified pull-ups as possible. Place an elastic band 7-8 below and parallel to bar. Lie on your back with shoulders directly under bar. Grasp bar with an overhand grip (palms away from body). Pull-up until chin is above elastic band. Continue as many times as possible. The test is over when you stop or a second form correction is made. Test result is recorded as the number of modified pull-ups completed and entered into the e-template. (Test example: student completed 15 modified pull-ups) Page 20 of 26

21 FLEXED ARM HANG FITNESS TEST Upper Body Strength Test Option 3 OBJECTIVE INSTRUCTIONS SCORING Hang with chin above the bar as long as possible. Grasp the bar with an overhand grip (palms away from body). With a partner s help, raise body so chin is above bar. The stopwatch is started at this point. Hold chin above the bar as long as possible. The watch is topped when chin touches the bar, head tilts backward to keep chin above bar, or chin falls below the bar. Test result is recorded as the number of seconds in the flexed arm hang position and entered into the e- Template. (Test example: student maintained flexed arm hang for 10 seconds) Page 21 of 26

22 SIT AND REACH FITNESS TEST Flexibility Test Option 1 OBJECTIVE INSTRUCTIONS SCORING Reach the specified distance on the right and left sides of the body. Be sure the ruler is positioned so that the 9-inch mark is at the edge of the box. Remove shoes and sit down. One foot should be flat against the end of the box, while the other foot is flat on the floor. Put one hand on top of the other and reach forward with both hands four (4) times. On the fourth reach, hold for at least one (1) second. Switch legs and repeat. Test results are recorded as the number of inches (rounded to the whole inch) for both the left and right sides and entered into the e-template. (Test example: student measured 12 inches on the left side and 10 inches on the right side) Page 22 of 26

23 SHOULDER STRETCH FITNESS TEST Flexibility Test Option 2 OBJECTIVE INSTRUCTIONS SCORING Touch the fingertips together behind the back. For right shoulder, reach with right hand over right shoulder. For left shoulder, reach with left hand over left shoulder. The test is over when you stop or are able to touch fingers of both hands. Test results are recorded as Y/N for both the right and left sides. For each side, Y is entered if student touches fingers of both hands, and N if not. (Test example: student met the standard on the left side and did not meet on the right side) L SHOULDER STRETCH Y N R Page 23 of 26

24 BODY MASS INDEX FITNESS TEST Body Composition Test Option 1 OBJECTIVE INSTRUCTIONS SCORING Provide an indication of the appropriateness of weight relative to height. Measure height in feet and inches, and weight in pounds. Height (FT and IN) and weight (LBS) are entered into the e-template. Note: This test must be completed in order to score AEROBIC CAPACITY tests. (Test example: student has a height of 5 feet, 4 inches and weighs 99 pounds) Page 24 of 26

25 SKINFOLD MEASUREMENTS FITNESS TEST Body Composition Test Option 2 OBJECTIVE INSTRUCTIONS Measure the triceps and calf skinfold thicknesses in order to calculate percentage of body fat. Locate triceps skinfold site on the back of the right arm. Grasp skinfold between thumb and forefinger, and lift it away from the muscle. Place calipers inch below the pinch site and record the median (middle) of three measurements. SCORING You should then place right foot on an elevated surface with the knee flexed at a 90 angle. Locate the calf skinfold site on the inside of the right leg at the level of maximum calf girth. Grasp skinfold between thumb and forefinger, and lift it away from the muscle. Place calipers inch below the pinch site and record the median (middle) of three measurements. Test results are recorded as the measurements of both the triceps and calf in millimeters (mm) and entered into the e-template. (Test example: triceps were measured at 10 mm and calf was measured at 7 mm) Page 25 of 26

26 BIOELECTRIC IMPEDANCE / AUTOMATED SKINFOLD CALIPERS FITNESS TEST Body Composition Test Option 3 OBJECTIVE INSTRUCTIONS Measure percentage of body fat using a bioelectric impedance or automated skinfold caliper device. The bioelectric device operates by sending an extremely weak electric current through the body. Along with other computer-entered data (weight, height, age, and gender), the device calculates and displays percentage of body fat) OR SCORING A computerized skinfold caliper device can be used to measure skinfolds. Test results are recorded as the percent body fat and entered into the e- Template. (Test example: percent fat reading from the device is 17.5%) Page 26 of 26
