1 RULES & REGULATIONS 2018 OCR European Championships All athletes are responsible for knowing, understanding and following the rules, guidelines and regulations for each obstacle of the 2018 OCR European Championships. The content of the rules may be changed or updated without notice. The 2018 OCR European Championships reserve the right to address violations of conduct and rules, not addressed in this document. It is the athlete s responsibility to seek the newest information on the 2018 OCR European Championships platforms & the OCREC2018 App, and follow the instructions provided by event and race officials at all times. You must pick up your race packet the day before your race (NOT the same morning as the race). There is no guarantee that packets not collected the day before, can be collected in the morning in time prior to the competition. Please be aware that others cannot pick up your race packet for you as the packet is personal and gorventment issued photo identification must be shown and validated.

3 Eligibility To compete in the 2018 OCR European Championships, all athletes must meet the following requirements: All atheltes in the elite division, age group division and in the Team Relay must have been officially verified as a qualified competitor, received an individual and personal verification code and bought a valid ticket prior to the competition. There are no qualification requirements for the Journeyman division (short course and standard course) or the Open Race. Athletes must have thoroughly read and signed the 2018 OCR European Championships waiver to be able to compete. Athletes are required to be over the age of 16 at the time of the 2018 OCR European Championships to be eligible to compete. Athletes below the age of 18 must have a written parental or guardian consent to be able to compete. The consent must be handed in as you collect your race packet. Athletes competing in the age group division must compete in the age group they belong in on the race day, even if it is not the same age group they qualified in. Athletes in the competition divisions must hold a European citizenship. All athletes are responsible for checking that the information listed (such a name, gender and date of birth) is correct prior to the event. 2

4 1. Event registration and packet pick-up All athletes must pick up their own race packet at the designated time and area. Other athletes etc. cannot collect your timing chip and/or wristband for you. You must use the voucher found in your race packet to get your wristband handed out. All athletes are required to show government issued photo identification and if required inform their verification code - at packet pick-up prior to the competition and at the wristband hand out. Athletes must have thoroughly read and signed the 2018 OCR European Championships waiver to able to compete. Athletes below the age of 18 must present a written parental or guardian consent to be able to compete. In order to race you must have a valid ticket. An infringement of this will result in a claim in the amount of the ticket price as well as a fee of 2000 Danish kroner and if necessary legal prosecution. Tickets are personal, not deferrable or refundable. Athletes cannot transfer division during the 2018 OCR European Championships or during the packet pick-up. Please be aware that athletes cannot transfer tickets to other athletes and all tickets must have been bought directly through Sportstiming.dk in order to be considered valid. The wristband(s) received at check-in must not be removed by anyone but the race officials. No athlete will be permitted to start in the competition without wearing the wristband (no replacements for lost wristbands will be given). Athletes in the Team Relay are required to do a final confirmation of its members at check in (Saturday June 30). All team members must be present at the final confirmation. An with instructions on when to do the final confirmation will be sent out to all registered teams. After the designated time it is no longer possible to change the team composition. You must pick up your race packet the day before your race (NOT the same morning as the race). There is no guarantee that packets not collected the day before, can be collected in time. Please collect your packets in good time as long queues can be expected. 3

5 2. Conduct of athletes Athletes are obligated to: Know, understand and follow the rules and regulations at all times Practice good sportsmanship at all times; Comply to the intent of a rule when the exact wording of the rule may be interpreted in various ways; Be responsible for their own safety and the safety of others Obey instructions from race officials and event staff Treat other athletes, officials, volunteers, media, sponsors and spectators with respect and courtesy Not use abusive, derogatory or inflammatory language and behavior Complete all obstacles without receiving assistance Not dispose litter or equipment on or around the course except at clearly designated places. All items must be kept with the athlete and disposed of appropriately at the end of the race Not attempt to gain unfair advantages in any way Not to enter the course and try any obstacles prior to the competition. Athletes doing so will be disqualified without warning. Athletes failing to comply with the conduct may be disqualified without warning by designated 2018 OCR European Championships personal. Performance enhancing substances/ drug testing: Athletes must comply with the rules set in the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) code for performance enhancing drugs and prohibited substances, and consent to drug-testing. 4

6 3. Competition rules Short course, Standard course and Team relay Start Athletes are required to report to the start area 10 minutes prior to the start of their designated wave. Athletes are not permitted to start in any other wave. Athletes violating this will be disqualified immediately from the competition. Wearing the wristband is mandatory in order to start in the competition. The wristband must be worn visible when entering the gate to the start line and be visible when on course/obstacles. Due to a high number of athletes participating and to reduce the risk of queues, some divisions will be divided to start in smaller groups/heats. Follow the instructions given by the crew at the gates by the start line at all times. Athletes are not allowed to enter the course and try any obstacles prior to the competition. Athletes doing so will be disqualified immediately without warning. It is the athlete s responsibility to understand and know the rules and regulations before entering the course and participating in the competition. Race number Athletes are required to display their assigned race number written on the athlete s body and it must be visible at all times while on the course. The race number can be written on the back of your lower leg, upper arm, face or shoulder etc. as long as it s clearly visible. Markers are available at the check-in desk. Obstacle completion Completion of all obstacles is mandatory to be eligible for awards and competition ranking. There are no alternatives to obstacles such time- or physical penalties. Athletes are responsible for their own safety. No athlete should attempt an obstacle if not comfortable in doing so. Athletes must ring the bells with their hands only and enter any water obstacle with feet first. 5

7 Finish line When crossing the finish line all athletes will cross a timing mat that records the athlete s individual timing. Depending on whether or not the athlete has maintained his/her wristband, the athlete must exit through the correct exit gate. There are two exit gates one for people with wristbands and one for people without wristbands. Please make sure that you enter the correct exit gate. All athletes are responsible for exiting the finish line area using the correct exit gate. Exiting the wrong gate may result in disqualification and or/ losing your rank on the results list. Wristband To reduce the risk of cheating, a competition wristband made of Tyvek will be sealed to the athlete s wrist. It s mandatory to wear the competition wristband in order to enter the start line. If the athlete still holds the competition wristband when crossing the finish line, the wristband will be converted into a prize wristband made of silicone. The silicone wristband is a symbolic award and it can not overrule the official results listed on sportstiming.dk. No athlete will be permitted to start in the competition without wearing the wristband (no replacements for lost wristbands will be given). The wristband received at check in prior to the competition must not be removed by anyone but race officials. If the athlete still holds the wristband when crossing the finish line, the competition wristband will be converted into a silicone wristband. Athletes are required to display the wristband at every obstacle. The wristband must be visible at all times while on the obstacles. Athletes start the race with one wristband. If the athlete is not able to complete an obstacle the wristband will be cut and removed from the athlete s wrist. Consequently, the athlete will be ranked Did Not Complete (DNC). An athlete ranked DNC will be considered a finisher with a finish time, but will not be eligible for prizes. 4. Penalties There are no psychical penalties and/or time penalties as an alternative to an obstacle. In order to be eligible for prizes, obstacle completion is mandatory on all obstacles. 6

8 5. Outside assistance Definition of outside assistance: Any kind of material support or personal assistance given or received by the athlete. Athletes are not allowed to receive assistance from other athletes, officials, spectators or volunteers in order to complete an obstacle (with exception of help from team members during the team part (the last section) of the team relay). (Please be aware that athletes are not allowed to carry or use any type of resin, pine tar or chalk on obstacles or while being on the course. Athletes doing so will be disqualified without warning.) Athletes are not allowed to accept assistances from other athletes or spectators, including but not limited to, accepting food and hydration. Athletes are allowed to receive cheer and high fives from spectators, other athletes and friends, but no physical interaction such as massage etc. during the competition is allowed. Athletes are required to provide and accept assistance from other competitors in distress, who s safety, is endangered and/or who require medical assistance, up and until the moment this role has been taken over by volunteers or medical staff. The assistance provided by relevant event personnel is allowed but is limited to drinks, nutrition and medical assistance. The athletes on short and standard course must not be accompanied by team members, team managers, coaches or other pacers on the course/along the course. 6. Obstacle conduct Completion of all obstacles is mandatory to be eligible for awards and competition ranking. There are no alternatives to obstacles such a penalties. Athletes must maintain forward progress on all obstacles at all times (e.g. athletes are not allowed to sit or stand on obstacles and have a break). If an athlete fails an obstacle, he/she is allowed additional attempts if he/she is not blocking the way of another athlete who is attempting to complete the obstacle for the first time. Some obstacles will have designated retry lanes. Athletes are required to use retry lanes for additional attempts. 7

9 Athletes must always start from the beginning of the obstacle with every new attempt. (or the relevant section in case of combination obstacles) Athletes are required to stay in his or her own lane. Athletes must not move in a manner that may cause harm to themselves or other athletes. Athletes must not intentionally block or interfere with another athlete. Blocking may result in disqualification. Athletes are not allowed to carry or use any type of resin, pine tar or chalk on obstacles or while being on the course. Athletes doing so will be disqualified without warning. Please see the obstacle specific rules in the appendix. Athletes may not receive any physical help completing an obstacle. 6.1 Failed attempt and retry lanes If an athlete fails an obstacle, he/she is allowed additional attempts. In that case the athlete must use the dedicated retry lanes. Using the first attempt lanes upon failing will result in immediate disqualification. 6.2 Failing to complete an obstacle Failure to complete an obstacle will lead to removal of the athlete s wristband. The athlete will consequently be ranked DNC ( Did Not Complete ). The DNCs athletes will be ranked in a separate category. If losing the wristband the athlete is still allowed to continue the race and become a finisher. You must inform the official by the obstacle of your name and race number, if you wristband is removed Failing to complete an obstacle will result in the loss of your wristband. The loss of the wristband makes you ineligible for prizes. If you fail an attempt, you must restart the obstacle from the beginning and by using the designated retry lane. 8

10 7. The course Athletes are required to stay on the course within the boundaries and markings set at all times. Cutting off parts of the course (deliberately or unintentionally) is prohibited and will result in disqualification. Athletes must make themselves known to athletes they are passing. They must use explicit language, preferably by loudly stating, track, passing or behind. Athletes are required to give faster competitors enough space to pass safely. Retry lanes Certain obstacles will have one or more dedicated lane(s) for athletes making additional attempts; Athletes must always start from the beginning of the obstacle (or the relevant section in case of combination obstacles) with every new attempt. Cut-off time and sweeper The cut-off time for the short course is 2 hours. The cut-off time for the standard course is 4 hours. The cut-off time for the team relay is 2 hours. Finishing the race within the cut-off time is mandatory to be eligible for awards/prizes. Failure to meet the cut-off time may lead to removal of an athlete s wristband by a sweeper. Race officials and volunteers Athletes are required to obey the instructions given by the event staff, officials and/or volunteers at all time. Medical Medical staff are present at the finish line area at the venue, as well as on the course. Please contact an official or a member of staff if you need help. 9

11 8. Gear, apparel and nutrition Footwear Bare feet are prohibited on any part of the course. All athletes must wear a covering for their feet while competing on the course. Footwear must be: Closed toed no flip flops, sandals or any footwear of any type that could catch on an obstacle Free of external metal, spikes, studs and other materials that could conceivably cause damage to obstacles or other athletes. Gear Athletes are not allowed to carry personal equipment with them to assist in the completion of an obstacle, with exception of gloves, protectors and devices necessary due to a physical disability. Glasses are allowed but discouraged for safety reasons Athletes are not allowed to carry or use any type of resin, tacky, pine tar or chalk (in any shape or form) on obstacles or while being on the course. Athletes doing so will be disqualified without warning. Nutrition Athletes are only allowed to carry food and hydration for own consumption. There are energy zones located on the course. 10

12 9. Team relay The team relay consists of three athletes, competing in a relay format (8km in total). The team divisions consist of a Men, a Mix and a Women division. Each team will have an armband containing the timing chip and each individual team member will wear a wristband. A team must have all three wristbands intact when crossing the finish line in order to be eligible for prizes/awards. The athletes must change turn in the designated changing zones where they also hand over the armband to the next member of the team. The armband must be worn by the member of the team who is active on the course. All three team members must complete their individual section in accordance with the general rules and regulations. Team members are not allowed to assist each other on the obstacles, except on the last part/section of the team relay. Depending on whether or not the team still holds all three wristbands, the team must exit the finish line through one out of two gates. V If the team still hold all 3 individual wristbands, the entire team must exit the finish line area through the gate marked with the sign Wristband. % If one or more team members wristbands has been cut, the entire team must exit the finish line area through the gate marked with the sign No wristband. Members of a team can be changed prior to the competition. All teams are required to do a final confirmation of its members at check-in (Saturday June 30). All members on a team must have been officially verified before the OCR European Championships, received a verification code and a valid ticket must have been bought in order to compete in the team relay. NO verifications will be made during the OCR European Championships weekend or during the final confirmation. 11

13 10. Protests The protest Committee is composed of a Head Referee and two judges of non-european nationality. Requirements: All protests must be filed in writing and submitted to the designated Jury/protest committee within thirty (30) minutes after the person filing the protest has completed the event/crossed the finish line. Any protests filed after the period indicated will not be taken into account. The protest shall contain the petitioners name and telephone number, a short detailed description of the factual background including the time and precise location of any relevant incidents. Protests may only be filed by participants, who o directly observed the subject of the protest o were directly and personally involved in any incident relevant to the protest o possess direct, detailed and personal knowledge of the subject of the protest. Protest which were observed by or previously ruled upon by a race official will not be procesed. All race participants are required to be present to participate in the hearing of any protest in which they were involved. The Protest Committee may render a decision in the absence of any participant who fails to appear. The Protest Committee reviews the evidence and render a prompt decision. 12

14 11. Timing and Results The official results will list the athletes according to their finish time as recorded by electronic chip timing. In the event that two athletes tie for a place and their performances cannot be separated, they will be awarded the same rank. The next athlete to finish behind them will occupy the same rank plus two places, with the subsequent athletes ranked in order of finishing. If an athlete fails to complete an obstacle and consequently give up, the wristband will be cut and removed from the athletes wrist. Consequently, the athlete will be ranked Did Not Complete (DNC). An athlete ranked DNC will be considered a finisher with a finish time, but cannot be eligible for prizes/awards 12. Prize ceremony Prize ceremony. Prizewinners are required to report to the event organization at least 15 minutes prior to the start of the prize ceremony. Prizewinners are required to be present during the prize ceremony, in order to receive their prize. There will not be a roll down in case of one or more athletes not attending the prize ceremony. Winners in the top 3 (all divisions) must bring their government issued photo identification and show it prior to the prize ceremony. Depending on whether or not the athlete still holds the wristband, the athlete must exit the finish line through one out of two gates. V If you still hold the wristband, you must exit the finish line area through the gate marked with the sign Wristband. % If you no longer hold the wristband, you must exit the finish line area through the gate marked with the sign No wristband. When you have received your medal, you must proceed immediately through the correct gate. All athletes are responsible for exiting the finish line area by the correct gate. 15

17 Appendix The content and the rules of the obstacles are subject to change. Fundamental changes to the rules/obstacles will be communicated through the OCREC2018 platforms on social media. The photos of the obstacles may vary from the obstacles at the OCREC2018. It is the responsibility of each athlete to know and understand each obstacle and the rules for successful completion. Failing to complete all obstacles will result in the wristband being cut and removed from the athlete s wrist. Consequently, the athlete will be ranked as Did Not Complete (DNC). Should you fail during an attempt, you must restart the obstacles from the beginning using the retry lanes. Athletes must always start from the beginning of the obstacle (or the relevant section in case of combination obstacles) with every new attempt. No athletes, spectators, family, friends etc. are allowed to enter the course and try any obstacles prior to the competition. This is applicable at all times (also when the obstacles are in progress of being build and/or the athlete is no longer in competition.) Athletes doing so will be disqualified without warning. General rules for all obstacles: Athletes must maintain forward progress on all obstacles at all times (e.g. Athletes are not allowed to sit or stand on obstacles and have a break) Completion of (all) the obstacle(s) is mandatory Athletes must not receive assistance from other athletes or spectators etc. Athletes must ring the bell, if equipped, by their hands only at the end of the obstacle (no feet). Some obstacles will have designated retry lanes for additional attempts. If failing an obstacle the athlete must use the dedicated retry lane(s). Athletes must always start from the beginning of the obstacle (or the relevant section in case of combination obstacles) with every new attempt. 18 1. Wall by Esbjerg Kommune Description: Wall Successful completion when: The athlete successfully goes up and over the wall. Using the support beams/frames Receiving assistance Failure to complete Failure to make forward progress at all times 2. Water Jump by STARK Description: A hurdle followed by a water pit/ditch water jump (as known from athletics steeplechase). Successful completion when: The athlete successfully jumps OVER the hurdle and through the water. Over/Under Description: Horizontally mounted beams V Successful completion when: - The athlete alternating goes over and under the beams in the designated order over and under, from entrance to exit - Not alternating the beams in the designated order over and under - Using any part of the frame to complete the obstacle - Failure to make forward progress at all times 4. Sandbag Carry Description: Weighted sandbag Carry Successful completion when: The sandbag is carried by the athlete from the beginning of the designated course to the end of the course where the athlete must put down the sandbag within the designated drop of zone. It is allowed to put down the sandbag, but it must be within arms lengths at all times. Big Stair by Fitness World Description: A frame structure in wood. ascends from the bottom of the frame, transition the top, and descend the back of the frame. - Not using the steps on the way down (no jumping down is allowed). - Failure to make forward progress at all times 6. Travers Wall Description: Traverse walls with different grips. Successful completion when: The athlete successfully traverses across all walls by using the different grips provided. - Using any part of the frame to complete the obstacle (the frame is painted red). - Any part of the body touches the ground between the entrance and exit points - Failure to make forward progress 19

21 at all times Retry lane: Yes 7. Slope Wall Description: An inclined wall with a rope on the top. successfully goes up and over the wall. Using the rope provided is allowed. Tow Combo Description: Weighted carry with crawl elements Successful completion when: The weighted element is carried by the athlete from the beginning of the designated course to the end of the course where the athlete must put down the carry within the designated drop of zone. It is allowed to set down the carried weight, but it must be within arms lengths at all times. - Failure to make forward progress at all times 20

22 9. Wall Description: Wall successfully go up and over the wall - Using the support beams/frame - Failure to make forward progress at all times 10. Haystack Description: Haystack climb successfully goes up, over and descend the back of the haystack (no jumping down is allowed) - Failure to make forward progress at all times 21

23 11. Dip Walk by URBAN-SKY Description: Parallel bars with the hands only walks the obstacle and only touches the red parts of the obstacle. Athletes must start the obstacle from the black ground beam and end the dip walk by passing the black ground beam at the end. - Any part of the body touches the ground between the black ground beams entrance and exit points - Using the legs or feet - Failure to make forward progress at all times Retry lane: Yes 12. Flying Monkey by URBAN-SKY Description: Section of bars starts on the platform and swing/jump from bar to bar by using the hands only and ring the bell at the end by the hand. Athletes must only touch the red parts of the Flying Monkey. - Any part of the body is touching the ground - Using feet, legs or lower body on the obstacle (including on the bell. 22

25 15. Beach Crawl Description: Low barbed wire crawl on the beach successfully crawls under the barbed wire from entrance to exit. - Failure to make forward progress at all times 16. Sand Dunes Description: Sand dunes located on Esbjerg beach. Successful completion when: the athlete successfully navigates the designated course from entrance to exit. from other athletes - Failure to make forward progress at all times 24

26 17. The Harbour Description: Jump/plunge into the water located at the harbour successfully plunges into the water with feet first. Athletes must follow the prescribed swim course from entrance to exit. Athletes may use any stroke to propel themselves through the water and may also tread water, float and/or use designated swim rope/aids. - Failure to make forward progress at all times - Leaving the water berfore/anywhere else than the marked exit 18. Exit through Harbour Description: Exit the harbour/water by climbing up a net. climbs up the net to enter the course again from the water. - Failure to make forward progress at all times 25

Farmers Walk Description: Weighted carry V Successful completion when: The weighted element is carried by the athlete from the beginning of the designated course to the end of the course where the athlete must put down the element within the designated drop of zone. The Jumper by URBAN-SKY Description: Obstacle involving jumping from platform to platform using the affixed bars. jumps from platform to platform and catch on to the affixed safety bar. - Any part of the body is touching the ground between the platforms - Using any part of the frame that is not a part of the affixed safety bar to complete the obstacle - Failure to make forward progress at all times 24. The football players revenge (stadium running) Description: Stadium steps successfully runs/walks the steps of the designated course. - Failure to make forward progress at all times 28

Cliffhanger 5.0 by Evolution Race Description: Rig with suspended climbing walls V Successful completion when: The athlete successfully traverses across all suspended walls from entrance to exit without touching the ground. The athlete must ring the bell at the end by with the hand. - Any part of the body is touching the ground between the entrance and exit of the obstacle. - Failure to make forward progress at all times - Ringing the bell with feet (hands only) Retry lane: Yes 29

31 27. Jumpstart by Jumpstart Adventure zone Description: Traverse with various configurations of hand and foot elements. The obstacle elements are a decline wall platform monkeybar water and a cargo net (Please note that this is NOT a combination obstacle. Athletes must always start from the beginning of the obstacle with every new attempt). begins at the first element and successfully traverses across all elements in succession.
