General. The RLC Inter-Unit Athletics Championships, will be held on Wed 29 Apr 15 at Horspath Athletics and Sports Ground, Oxford OX4 2RR. The competition is open to all RLC Major and Minor Units and to all other athletes within the Corps. All units are strongly encouraged to enter both male and female teams and allow individuals to compete. 2. Aim. The aim of the Championships is to promote athletics and encourage sporting competition between RLC units. The event will also help to identify and select athletes for the RLC Men s and Women s teams for the Army Inter-Corps Athletics Championships. The Competition 3. General. The Championships will be divided into Major and Minor Unit Men s and Women s Team events. The competition will be run in accordance with UK Athletics Rules. All events will form part of the team competition. The list of events is attached at Annex A. 4. Entries. Entry into the competition is open to all RLC Major and Minor Units and any RLC soldier or officer serving outside the Corps. Entries are permitted under the following conditions: a. Teams. Teams will represent RLC Major and Minor Units Men s Teams and Women s Teams: (1) Team Size. There is no restriction on the size of unit teams. However, the number of events that any one member may enter, is laid down in the rules at Annex B. Only one athlete may be entered per event in all team categories, this change is due to low team entries in recent years due to issues with forming teams with 2 strings and brings the championship inline with all Army athletics competitions. (2) Team Declaration Proforma. The exact composition of each team is not required until the day of the competition. Team Captains are to complete the Team Sheet at Annex C and submit to the Event Secretary at the Team Captain s Brief at 0830hrs on Wed 29 Apr 15. All non RLC personnel are to be clearly identified. b. Affiliated Athletes. In order to encourage maximum participation, units can claim individual RLC athletes to take part in unit teams. Sensible affiliations, based on geographic proximity or role will normally be allowed but all affiliations must be cleared by team captains through the undersigned. Affiliations that have not been cleared may result in disqualification of teams, if it is discovered that a team has fielded an athlete not on a unit s held strength. 5. Entry Details. Units wishing to enter should complete the entry form at Annex D and forward it, with appropriate entry fees to the Event Secretary no later than Fri 24 Apr 15. 1

2 Cheques should be made payable to CENTRAL BANK, 3 REGT RLC or if units wish to pay by BACS Bank Transfer please contact the undersigned. Entry fees are as follows: a. Major units b. Minor units c. Women s teams Team Captains. Each unit is to appoint an Officer or SNCO as Team Captain. One of their key tasks is to ensure the Team Declaration Sheets are completed prior to the event and handed in during the Team Captain s Brief, they must also ensure nominated athletes turn up to their individual events in good time. Athletes can enter a maximum of two track events and one field event or vice versa and can also take part in one relay event. 7. Programme of Events. The Programme of Events is outlined at Annex E and may be subject to minor changes. Any such changes will be announced during the Team Captain s brief on Wed 29 Apr Trophies. Units that were awarded trophies at the 2014 Championships 1 are to arrange the return of the Trophies to the Event Secretary by Fri 24 Apr 15, trophies may be returned on the day of the competition with the agreement of the Event Secretary. Trophies are to be cleaned and engraved with the details of the 2014 winners before they are returned. Please contact the undersigned to discuss as necessary. Conduct of the Event 9. Administration. a. Registration. Registration and Team Captain s Brief will take place at 0830hrs on 29 Apr 15 at Horspath Road Athletics Track. The first event will start at 0900hrs. b. Accommodation. Dalton Barracks has limited accommodation available; units are advised to make their own arrangements or contact the Event Secretary for advice if necessary. c. Feeding. Competing units are to make their own feeding arrangements. Refreshments will be available for competitors to purchase throughout the day. VIP feeding will be provided for lunch and afternoon tea. d. Changing facilities. Changing rooms and toilets are available within the Horspath Road Athletics Track complex. e. Security. All personnel should be aware that the Horspath Road Athletics Track facilities will be accessible to the public during the competition and security must be considered by all personnel at all times. 10. Events. Team Captains will be briefed at Registration on the running order and any changes to the programme. Adherence to timings will be vital to the success of the day. 11. Prizes. Prizes (medals) will be awarded to winners and runners up in each event; team trophies are also awarded. The prize-giving will be conducted at lunchtime and on the conclusion of the competition. Please note that other Arms and Services personnel participating in the Championship are not eligible to receive an RLC individual trophy, but may receive team medals. 1 Men s Major Unit Winners 27 Regt RLC, Men s Minor Units Winners 25 Trg Regt RLC and Women s Team Winners 3 Regt RLC. 2

3 Teams and individuals are requested not to depart from the Athletics Stadium until prize giving is completed. 12. RLC Corps Colours. RLC Corps Colours for athletics awarded in 2014, will be presented during the prize ceremony. The units of personnel who will receive their Colours will be contacted in advance by the Event Secretary to confirm attendance. 13. Commanding Officers. Commanding Officers are very welcome to support their teams, lunch and light refreshments will be provided. Team Captains are requested to confirm attendance by COP Fri 24 Apr 15, to assist with VIP feeding planning. Summary 14. The Corps Athletics Championships will provide an excellent opportunity to enjoy a day of athletics competition. It will also serve to identify the current inform Corps athletes for the Corps Athletics Team. Any questions about the competition should be addressed to the undersigned. 5 Annex B to 01_08_07_04 Athletics RLC ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS COMPETITION RULES Eligibility 1. The following are eligible to compete in the RLC Athletics Championships: Events a. All RLC personnel on the posted strength of an RLC unit. b. All personnel of other Arms or Corps who are filling specialist posts designated to their Arms or Corps in an established RLC unit. The following limitations apply: (1) Personnel of other Arms or Corps, when competing under the terms of this rule, are not eligible to create a RLC record, or be awarded an individual medal. However, they are eligible for a team medal. (2) That no more than 2 non-rlc personnel are in any team. c. Any special affiliations cleared in advance by the Secretary of RLC Athletics are in order to allow for maximum participation of RLC personnel not on the posted strength of an RLC unit. Affiliations are only possible for RLC personnel. d. RLC Personnel may enter into the team competition as individuals with the prior agreement of the Event Secretary. Individuals will be required to pay the individual entry fee to compete. 2. Events will be as per Annex A. 3. A winners and runners up individual medal will be awarded for each male and female athletics event. The athlete achieving the fastest time or greatest distance/height in each event, will become the RLC Champion for that event. Scoring 4. The following scoring system will be used throughout the competition for all teams: a. Track and Field. In track and field events, excluding relay events, the winner of each event, will score the same number of points as there are teams competing i.e. 6 teams, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. b. Number of Teams. Subject to the number of unit entries there may be 2 races (heats) for each track event up to and including the 800m. The results will be determined by the times from both races. c. Relay Events. Double points will be awarded for all relay events i.e., 6 teams, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4 and 2 points d. High Jump. In the event of any tie in the High Jump the points will be shared. There will be no jump off position. Special Competition Rules B - 1

6 5. The championships will be conducted iaw current UK Athletics rules, with the following provisos: Protests a. No competitor is to take part in more than two track events and one field event or two field events and one track event plus one relay. b. In the event of two or more units scoring the same number of points overall, the order of merit shall be decided by the greatest number of first places and so on until the tie is resolved. c. In the 5000m race all men s teams will run in the same race. Minor Units athlete s places will be recorded separately. d. In the event of a tie in the High Jump and Pole Vault the points will be shared. There will be no jump off. e. Field event competitors will be allowed 3 attempts only, with the exception of the High Jump and Pole Vault in which competitors will be permitted 3 attempts at each new height when qualified so to do. f. Track events will take priority over Field events. 9. Any competitor who wishes to make a protest is to address their concern through their Team Captain, who will in turn represent their athletes or team to the officials. The final decision in resolving conflict will rest with the Clerk of the Course or the Event Secretary as applicable. Trophies and Prizes 10. Individual Prizes. Individual prizes for RLC male and female competitors will be awarded for the Winner and Runner-Up in each event. This will be decided by the best performance overall in the male and female events. Team medals will be awarded to the Winners and Runners-Up of the team categories. 11. RLC Team Trophies. A trophy will be awarded to the unit team, in each category scoring the greatest number of points at the meeting and competing under the terms of these rules. 12. Best Individual Athlete. Prizes for the best individual male and female athletes will be awarded for notable performances during the Championships. These athletes will be determined by members of the RLC Athletics Committee.
