The Air Force track and field team heads to San Diego, Calif., this weekend to begin its spring break training trip at the 39th-annual Aztec Invita onal. The two-day meet begins on Friday, March 24. MEET INFORMATION While the majority of the Aztec Invita onal will take place at San Diego State s AzTrack Sports Deck, all throwing events will be held on the campus of UC San Diego in La Jolla. Daily cket prices for the Sports Deck have been set at $5 for adults, while children under 12 are free. The meet, which is slated to feature nearly 2500 athletes, will be divided into open, invita onal and high school events. DORSEY, SPIRES EARN MW WEEKLY AWARDS A er pos ng NCAA-leading marks at the Baldy Cas llo Classic, Ma Dorsey was named the Mountain West Men s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week and Shelley Spires was named the MW Women s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week. Dorsey used a NCAA-best me of 3:46.50 to win the 1500-meter run by nearly six seconds and claim his first MW honor, while Spires earned her fi h a er se ng a new Air Force high jump record (6 0½ ) and became the first NCAA athlete to break six feet this season. MORE NOTES ON SPIRES RECORD-SETTING WEEKEND Shelley Spires became the first Air Force jumper to ever break the six-foot mark in outdoor compe on, as she cleared 6 0½ to win the Baldy Cas llo Classic on March 18. Breaking her own Academy outdoor record twice during the meet, she became the first and only jumper in the na on to clear six feet this season. Three of her jumps were ranked among the na on s top-six over the March weekend, while her winning leap of 6 0½ is the third-best clearance in Mountain West history. THE 400-METER CLUB The top-10 of the 400-meter standings nearly saw a major rewrite during the first week of the outdoor season. Tyler Koss clocked the Academy s fi h-fastest me at the Baldy Cas llo Classic on March 18, running a to finish third out of 27 runners and pace Air Force to a pair of top-five finishes. Sedacy Walden posted the 11th-fastest me (47.09) to finish fourth, while Brandon Sanders, who won the Jerry Quiller Classic in earlier in the day, was just 0.01 off of the original No. 10 me. WELCOME BACK, JOHN! John Reynolds, who missed the indoor season while recovering from injury, marked his return to the Falcons lineup by becoming just the fourth athlete in Air Force history to surpass the 50-foot barrier in the outdoor triple jump. Registering a career-best distance of 51 1 the second-best jump in program history and just a half-inch off the standard Reynolds won the Baldy Cas llo Classic by more than two feet and added nearly one foot to a Junior Class Record that had stood since MOVERS AND SHAKERS A pair of freshmen impacted the program s record book during their outdoor debut at the Baldy Cas llo Classic over the March weekend. Lindsey Blanks recorded a me of 7:12.05 to win the 2000-meter steeplechase and take more than 18 seconds off of a program record that had stood for five years, while Megan Irvine posted the program s eighth-fastest 200-meter me (25.39) and marked the sixth me in as many races where she has impacted the top-10 of a sprint event. WHAT S ON DECK Air Force will remain in California to train over the Academy s spring break. The Falcons return to ac on on March 31-April 1, when they compete at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival and the Stanford Invita onal.

HOME SWEET HOME A total of 15 Falcons hail from the state of Colorado, including six from Colorado Springs Terrell Bradford (Palmer), Alexa Chacon (The Classical Academy), Miguel Molas (James Irwin Charter), John Quinn (Liberty), Jackson Spalding (Discovery Canyon) and Conner Wilburn (The Classical Academy). The squad s Centennial State roster also includes three runners from Arvada Nicole Hahn, Zac Petrie and Giulianna Vessa and individuals from Denver (John Reynolds), Eaton (Garre Coalson), Evergreen (Samantha Skold), Fort Collins (Preston Roche), Li leton (Noah Riley) and Loveland (Megan Irvine). FOLLOW THE FALCONS ON TWITTER The track and field team can be found on Twi er by ON THE SIDELINES Ralph Lindeman, a 14- me conference coach of the year and six- me regional coach of the year, returns for his 28th season as the head coach of the Air Force track and field program. Lindeman is joined by associate head coach and ver cal jumps coach Sco Steffan, middle distance and distance coach Ryan Cole, sprints and hurdles coach Beau Houston and throws coach Keith Vance. The Falcons staff also includes volunteer coaches Bob Graf (horizontal jumps) and Mark Stanforth (distance), while Lexi Bailey is in her first year as the program s director of opera ons. OH CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN Four seniors Alexa Chacon, Ma Dorsey, Zach Johnson, Cydnee Reese will serve as captains for Air Force track and field. RECAPPING THE INDOOR SEASON IN 150 WORDS The Falcons combined for 11 Academy records, six individual conference tles, the first top-50 women s ranking in program history and three NCAA All-America awards during the 2017 indoor season. The men scored in 14 of 17 events to place second at the Mountain West Championships, while Kyle Pater (pole vault), Malachi Sparling (weight throw) and Jamiel Trimble (60-meter dash, 200-meter dash, 60-meter hurdles) captured conference tles. Trimble was named the Outstanding Performer of the MW Championships, while Shelley Spires, who won the MW tle in the high jump, was honored as the USTFCCCA Mountain Region Female Field Athlete of the Year. Spires also became the program s first female to garner NCAA All-America honors in a field event at the NCAA Indoor Championships, as she picked up first-team status with a sixth-place finish.
