1 Rear Commodore - Sailing Report 2018 I would like to start by acknowledging the members of the Sailing Events Working Committee for the time and work put in to see that our sailing calendar meets the general need for our sailors. Thanks go to James Sharpe, Nigel Signal, Damien Geoffray, Justin Lean and Ashley Barnes. Ambassador s Cup 2017 The 18 th Ambassador s Cup held on the 11 November 2017 yet again set a new record for participation; 47 Embassies with 63 boats participating in this annual event. The winner in the Ambassadors category went to H.E. Fredesman Turro Gonzalez from the Cuba Embassy. H.E. James Sinclair of Chile returned in his 2 nd term as the President of the Ambassador s Cup, doing an excellent job at the helm. Donations received will go to the CSC Community Outreach Fund. 2 nd CSC NE Monsoon Sailing Festival 2018 We commenced with the 2 nd CSC NE Monsoon Sailing Festival this year an initiative which brings together all the signature CSC NE Monsoon events under one umbrella, culminating with the SailFest Regatta on 24 & 25 March.

3 Waka Tere / Kurt Metzger (IRC 1 st ), Southern Light / James Sharpe (PY 1 st ), Dash Boot / Clive Van Onselen (Cruising Multi 1 st ), Nacra Carbon 20 / Scott McCook (Beach Cat 1 st ) CSC J24 & Platu National Championships 2018 This year s J24 National Championships was attended by 10 Boats (6 J24 and 4 Platus). The Universities continue to show their strong support for the event, with SMU sending 4 teams and NUS sending 2. This year the NUS Varsity Sailing Team skippered by Jonathan Yeo won the J24 title, on their 2 nd attempt. The Platu Class was championed by SMU s SMUve skippered by Rebecca Lim. Congratulations to all the winners! 2017 Twilight and Sunday Series II Overall The 2017 edition of our Twilight Series was completed with a total of 23 Keelboats, 7 Cruising Multihulls and 10 Beach Catamarans. With 10 races in the Series, it was a long and challenging series spanning a period of 5 months! IRC Invictus / Justin Lean PY SDF / Derek Sharples Cruising Multihull Cicak / Tim Hill Beach Catamaran Persian Cat / Chris Waddington Despite the smaller numbers, the Sunday Series was no less successful, with a total of 16 Keelboats, 6 Cruising Multihulls and 10 Beach Catamarans participating. All classes were closely challenged over the 2 nd half of 2017 with the various Sunday Series passages. IRC Jong Dee / Paul Kendall PY SDF / Derek Sharples Cruising Multihull Baloo / David Stanton Beach Catamaran Persian Cat / Chris Waddington 2018 Twilight and Sunday Series I Our Saturday Twilight Series continues to be a popular casual racing event at the club. In Series 1, a total of 16 keelboats, 9 beach catamarans and 5 cruising multihulls competed in the series. This event is a white-sail only for the keelboats, a good entry point for first-time boat owners/racers. IRC Invictus / Justin Lean PY Arbudhen / Michael Teo

4 Cruising Multihull Cicak / Tim Hill Beach Catamaran Madfish II / Doug Fimmell The Sunday Series is gaining popularity; also drawing a large number of participants. In total we had 15 keelboats, 10 beach catamarans and 6 cruising multihulls participating. This event requires more skilled work from the crew as spinnakers are used. IRC Jong Dee / Paul Kendall PY Balqis / Zaheera Hashim Cruising Multihull Cicak / Tim Hill Beach Catamaran Persian Cat / Chris Waddington All in all both the Twilight and the Sunday Series has been the backbone of CSC s weekend racing activity and continue to receive tremendous support and participation from members. 5 th CSC@Besar Regatta 2018 The 5 th CSC@Besar Regatta held from the 17 to 23 June 2018 never fails to excite, as an 11 strong fleet embarked on a passage race up to Besar to for a week of island racing, cruising and revelry. Besar Series PY Winner: Windancer / Glen O Grady P.Besar Series Cruising Multihull Winner: Cicak / Tim Hill Mark your calendars for future editions as this is one passage race you wouldn t want to miss! Cruising Cruising in 2017 & 2018 was short and sweet. Sebana continues to be a popular and convenient destination for the sailors and new cruising yachts a hassle-free journey and clearance process into Malaysia. Sengat-Sebana Cruise 30 Mar 1 st Apr (Good Friday) Tanjung Piayu Cruise - 28 Apr 1 st May (Labour Day) We have one last Cruise for the year, something new a Goodwill Cruise to Nongsa Point Marina. The tentative dates are 8 & 9 December These are little adventures that you can enjoy; a cheap and an exciting holiday for some.

5 Dinghy Sailing Our monthly dinghy races which fall on the last Sunday of each month continues to attract the newer sailors and it also offers as a platform of our eager optimist sailors. This is where many gets the chance to apply and hone their skills. New Toppers To replace our ageing fleet of laser picos and cater to larger numbers for our adult dinghy courses, the club has purchased 10 new Toppers versatile boats for all ages. These Toppers are now currently used for youth training. Topper World Championships 2018, Shenzhen, China Two (2) of our Youth Sailors, Angel Chew and Luc Patel will be representing Singapore and Changi Sailing Club in their first ever international regatta at the Topper World Championships in Shenzhen, China. The event is held at Vanhang Longcheer Yacht Club on August. The 2 sailors will be led / accompanied by our Activities Manager, Mr Choy Yi Hong for the duration. Best of luck to both sailors! 2017 CSC Optimist Championships At the 2017 Optimist Sailing Championships a total of 151 boats participated in the annual event, a significant increase from The Silver fleet was held from the 29 November to 1 December while the Gold fleet was from the 5 to 8 December CSC youth sailors performed brilliantly, with Antonin Radue clinching the Silver Fleet Championship Title. Congratulations Antonin! As our signature dinghy race, the CSC Optimist Championships celebrates youth sailing at its best. Training & Sailing Courses Our basic sailing course continues to be very popular with our new members and also many from the public. 10 of our sailors took part in the recent Singapore National Sailing Championships, over 3 classes. During the week, we have 3 groups that are training with us. CHIJ, Katong Convent being the biggest group, followed by the Home-School Community children who also partake in regular weekday dinghy training. In addition, we have students from NTU, NUS and SMU forming the other group which sends regular batches of students for basic sailing courses.

6 We would also like to extend a warm welcome to the NTU Sailing Club as they make CSC their new home-base for sailing training. An MOU between their Sailing Club and CSC has been signed for 2 years, looking forward to an exciting new partnership! Community Outreach Program In our course of being more involved with community service we have opened our doors in support to a few projects. Our Community Outreach Program supports many causes, and we are happy to be partnering the following organizations / associations to use sailing as a vessel to bring value to the various communities in Singapore.
