2 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS 2018 The Organising Authority will be: Lake Macquarie Yacht Club (LMYC) In conjunction with RTC Group Under the authority of Australian Sailing (AS) Hosted by LMYC located at ADA Street Belmont NSW 2280 Australia 1.0 RULES and ENTRY 1.1 Racing will be conducted under the Racing Rules of Sailing , as amended, the Australian Sailing (AS) Prescriptions , the Notice of Race and these Sailing Instructions (SI s). 1.2 Competitors shall comply with the AS Special Regulations applicable for Category 7 or above races and a current Equipment Audit Form shall be lodged with LMYC. 1.3 Entry for the Series, is by completion of required information and payment of the prescribed fee by the TES entry available at and to be completed and submitted online only. 1.4 Series entries close at 1700 hours on Thursday 15 th February Entries for an individual race are to be submitted by 1800 hours on Friday 16 th February Late entries will be accepted at the bar (LMYC) up to 1130 hours on race day. No late entry fees are payable and entrants will not be allocated a handicap and are not eligible for results or prizes. 2.0 RACING CONDITIONS 2.1 The Event is open to boats using spinnakers and boats nominating not to use spinnakers. 2.2 A boat shall nominate on the TES on-line Entry Form if the boat intends to use a spinnaker and the nomination shall not be changed during the Series. 2.3 Results will be calculated using the TCF method. The TCF allocated to a boat will depend on whether it has nominated to use a spinnaker. The lowest corrected time shall be scored first, the next lowest corrected time, second and so on. (Changes RRS A4.1) 3.0 ELIGIBILITY 3.1 Eligibility, required documentation and entry fees are set out in the Notice of Race ADVERTISING 4.1 Advertising is unrestricted as permitted by World Sailing Regulation CHANGES TO SAILING INSTRUCTIONS 5.1 Changes to the Sailing Instructions shall be issued no later than two hours prior to the warning signal for Division 1 and 1800 hours on the preceding day for a change in the schedule of a race. 5.2 Changes to Sailing Instructions shall be posted on the noticeboard in LMYC and signalled by Code flag L displayed from the signal mast of the Race Committee Box on the south western corner of the LMYC Marina. 6.0 MODIFICATIONS TO BE NOTIFIED 6.1 When a yacht, its equipment or sails, is modified with a reasonable expectation of improving its performance details of such modification shall be notified to LMYC s Race Committee 48 hours before the warning signal of Division 1. No modifications will be accepted after this time. P a g e 2 9

3 7.0 SCHEDULE OF RACES 7.1 Racing will be conducted on:- Race Date Race Nos Courses Saturday 17th February & 2 Windward / Leeward Sunday 18th February LMYC Bay Course 7.2 A re-sail for an abandoned race may be scheduled at the discretion of the Race Committee. 7.3 The number of races to constitute a series shall be two completed races. 7.4 The races include the LMYC NCYC Friendship Cup AND COPS races 3, 4 & STARTING TIMES AND SIGNALS 8.1 RACE 1 on Saturday 17th February 2018 based on Three Divisions using a separate course for each division Course A LMYC starting vessel with LMYC Burgee Course B WASC starting vessel with WASC Burgee Course C RMYC starting vessel with RMYC Burgee TIME SIGNAL MEANING DIV 1 COURSE A 1325 Code Q Warning Div Code I Preparatory Div Code I Attention Div Code Q Start Div 1 DIV 2 COURSE C 1325 Code R Warning Div Code I Preparatory Div Code I Attention Div Code R Start Div 2 DIV 3 COURSE B 1325 Code K Warning Div Code I Preparatory Div Code I Attention Div Code K Start Div 3 RACE 2 on Saturday 17 th February 2018 the Warning Signal will be displayed as soon as practicable after the completion of Race 1 using the same sequence as set out above. 4 8.2 RACE 3 on Sunday 18 th February 2018 based on three Divisions TIME SIGNAL MEANING 1325 Code Q Warning Div Code I Preparatory Div Code I Attention Div Code Q Start Div Code R Warning Div Code I Preparatory Div Code I Attention Div Code R Start Div Code K Warning Div Code I Preparatory Div Code I Attention Div Code K Start Div 3 SI s 8.1 and 8.2 above may be altered depending on the number of Divisions. 9.0 STARTING LINE 9.1 The starting line shall be between the mast displaying an Orange flag on the designated RCV at the starboard end and an orange buoy bearing code flag O at the port end. 9.2 A spar mark bearing a red flag may be laid near the RCV and if laid this mark shall be passed on the same hand as the RCV when starting RECALLS 10.1 Individual and General Recalls shall be in accordance with RRS COURSES 11.1 RACES 1 and 2 - The Course for Races 1 and 2 will be a windward / leeward as set out in Appendix A (attached) 11.2 Courses may be shortened in accordance with RRS Divisions will be allocated to separate course areas the approximate positions of which are shown in Appendix C 11.4 RACE 3 - The course to be sailed will be indicated by a numeral pennant flown from the LMYC RCV prior to the Division 1 Warning signal. The various courses for particular wind directions is set out in Appendix B (attached) 11.5 Courses, if shortened, the Finish line shall be as per RRS 32.2(a) and the Definition of Finishing MARKS 12.1 Races 1 & 2 The marks for Races 1 and 2 shall be:- Course A Blue drums approximately 1200mm high and 600mm in diameter with orange skirts Course B Yellow inflatable marks approximately 1200mm high and 600mm in diameter Course C Yellow inflatable marks approximately 1200mm high and 600mm in diameter 12.2 Race3 - The marks to be rounded shall be the permanent marks of LMYC (lime green cylinders with red band and yellow tops) A map showing approximate locations of marks is attached - Appendix C (Note that marks shown as being RMYC and WASC will not be used). 5 13.0 FINISH LINE 13.1 For Races 1 and 2 the finish line shall be between:- 1. Course A the LMYC RCV signal mast displaying a blue flag, taken to starboard, and a green ODM displaying a green flag to port. 2. Course B the WASC RCV signal mast displaying a blue flag, taken to starboard, and a green ODM displaying a green flag to port. 3. Course C the RMYCT RCV signal mast displaying a blue flag, taken to starboard, and a green ODM displaying a green flag to port. 4. Refer to diagram Appendix A which shall apply to all Course areas For Race 3 the finish line shall be between the RCB on the SW corner of LMYC Marina and a permanent mark, LMYC Club mark (lime green cylinders with red band and yellow tops). A lime green Inner Distance Mark (IDM) will be laid on the finish line and a boat shall leave the IDM on the same hand as the RCB when finishing TIME LIMIT 14.1 The time limit for each Division for races 1 and 2 shall be 1.5 hours each and for race 3, 2.5 hours of elapsed time from the start of the Division Boats not finishing within this time will be scored DNF. (Changes RRS 35) Target time for the first boat across the line will be minutes 15.0 PROTESTS and REQUESTS FOR REDRESS 15.1 Protests and Requests for Redress forms are available at the reception office of LMYC and shall be lodged within 2 hours of the yacht s finishing time Arbitration will be available and will be conducted under Rule 44.3 (c)/appendix T 16.0 DIVISIONS 16.1 Entries in the Regatta together with Entries in the Friendship Cup will be allocated into Divisions based on all information available to the Race Committee Course areas for Divisions for races 1 and 2, refer to Appendix A RACE RESULTS AND SCORING 17.1 Race results will be calculated using arbitrary TCF handicaps allocated by the Race Committee and the low point scoring system complying with RRS Appendix A shall be used A boat s TCF shall be adjusted after each race in accordance with details of the Saturday Race Adjustments posted on the Club Notice Board and Website PRIZES 18.1 Prizes will be awarded in each Division for 1 st, 2 nd, 3 rd place overall and for each race winner as follows; 1. Each Race winner on TCF in each Division: $30 2. Each Race a Mystery Prize for a boat not having won a prize. 3. The balance of the prize money shall be shared between the Divisions Prizes will be paid by internet Transfer to the winner s nominated financial institution. The Friendship Cup 18.3 The Friendship Cup is a teams event between NCYC and LMYC. The Friendship Cup will be awarded to the team with the lowest aggregated points for its top 3 PHS competitors. COPS Offshore 18.4 The NCYC LMYC Combined Offshore Pointscore will be run conjointly with this regatta being races 3, 4 and 5 of the COPS. Prizes will be awarded for COPS in accordance with the Race Documents issued separately for that event. P a g e 5 9

6 19.0 LIABILITY 19.1 Attention is drawn to Fundamental Rule 4 The responsibility for a boat s decision to participate in a race or to continue racing is hers alone ABANDONMENT DUE TO ADVERSE WEATHER 20.1 Abandonment of a race due to adverse weather shall be at the discretion of the Race Committee until 1 hour prior to the first warning signal and thereafter at the discretion of the Race Officer as per RRS PROHIBITED AREAS 21.1 A boat shall not sail between a moored vessel or moorings and the adjacent shoreline A boat shall leave all Cardinal marks on the safe water side ORDER OF ROUNDING WINDWARD/LEEWARD MARKS Refer to Appendix A.
