1 CLASSIC BOAT RACING ASSOCIATION A Chartered Association of the Yacht Racing Association of San Francisco Bay 2016 RACING SEASON NOTICE OF RACE Organizing Authority: The YRA of San Francisco Bay 1.0 RULES 1.1 Races will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing for The Sailing Instructions replace the YRA Standing Sailing Instructions. 1.2 RRS 40 is changed as follows: All competitors are required to wear life jacket or other adequate personal flotation device while racing. 2.0 ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY 2.1 Members in good standing of the following classes are invited to participate: ALERION EXPRESS, BEAR, BIRD, CAL 20, FOLKBOAT, IOD, KNARR, and SANTANA Eligible boats may request that entry forms be sent from the YRA office. They are also available on the YRA web site. 2.3 Classes of eligible boats must number five or more entrants by 5 PM on the Monday preceding any race, to receive a start for that race. 2.4 In advance of the 2016 season, each class has chosen the maximum participation of dates their class will enter, given below. For a full season the entry fees are $210 (AE, BI, FO,KN), $170 (BE, CA, IOD) and $90 (SA), which include a required YRA membership fee of $50 (waived for an entrant who has previously paid YRA membership dues for the current year) 2.5 The entry fees paid by boats in classes not meeting the minimum number of timely entrants for any race under paragraph 2.3 (above) will be returned Date Day First Warning Venue Participation** AE BE BI CA FO IOD KN SA 4/23 Sat 1155* Circle /07 Sat 1055 Knox /07 Sun* 1055 Knox /24 Sat 1055 City * Note unusual day or time ** Numbers show races per day

2 3.0 MANAGEMENT 3.1 Each race shall be under the management of a race committee of the sponsoring yacht club. 3.2 Sponsoring Yacht Clubs, Class Officers, and CBRA Officers, are listed in Appendix A. 4.0 MINIMUM EQUIPMENT LIST Boats must comply with the United States Coast Guard s requirements for recreational vessels, and minimum additional equipment as follows: (1) USCG approved life jackets for each member of the crew; (2) one USCG approved throwable device (horseshoe life ring or ring buoy); (3) a throwing sock-type flotable heaving line of 50' or greater, readily accessible to the cockpit; (4) a USCG approved (or equivalent) fire extinguisher, readily accessible; (5) a manually operated bilge pump of at least 10 gpm capacity; (6) suitable anchor and cable; (7) fog horn; (8) marine compass; (9) suitable charts or GPS for piloting, (10) flares or non-pyrotechnic distress signals, which meet USCG requirements; (11) a first aid kit; and (12) VHF radio. 5.0 SCORING 5.1 RRS A9 will apply in each instance in which it is inconsistent with RRS A For the purposes of qualifying the fleet for the season, a race that is abandoned shall be listed as a valid race for any boat that came to the starting area. 6.0 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS 6.1 Sailing instructions, notices to competitors, and changes to the sailing instructions will be posted on the YRA website, to be downloaded by the entrant: 6.2 Entrants may request that sailing instructions, notices to competitors, and changes to the sailing instructions be sent by US Mail. This request may accompany their entry or thereafter, but must be in writing and include name, boat name, sail number, and address. 7.0 COMMUNICATIONS RRS 25 is changed to allow for on-the-water radio communication in addition to visual signals between the Race Committee and racing boats, on the VHF channel specified for that day in the CBRA Sailing Instructions. Also in addition to the normally displayed signal for boats OCS, the RC may hail OCS boats by VHF radio. For the second race, the RC may advise the fleet starting order by VHF radio.

3 8.0 DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY Sailing is an activity that has an inherent risk of damage and injury. Competitors in a YRA event are participating entirely at their own risk. See RRS 4, Decision to Race. The race organizers (organizing authority, race committee, protest committee, host club, sponsors, or any other organization or official) will not be responsible for damage to any boat or other property or the injury to any competitor, including death, sustained as a result of participation in this event. By participating in this event, each competitor agrees to release the race organizers from any and all liability associated with such competitor s participation in this event to the fullest extent permitted by law.
