1 2015 Bermuda Optimist National & Open Championships November 7 th, 8 th 2015 Hosted by the Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club NOTICE OF RACE This Regatta will be organised by The Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club in conjunction with the Bermuda Optimist Dinghy Association (BODA) the Organising Authority (OA) 1. Rules 1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing ( ) 1.2 The Bermuda Sailing Association prescriptions and the BODA Code of Conduct shall apply, and will be posted on the Official Notice Board as well as and at respectively. Competitors, Coaches, parents and Guardians shall abide by the BODA Code of Conduct. 1.3 International Optimist Dinghy Association Class Rules will apply, except where modified by local Class rules or the SI s. 2. Advertising 2.1 Advertising will be governed by the relevant ISAF regulations for the Optimist Dinghy. 2.2 Boats may be required to display sponsor advertising chosen and supplied by the Organising Authority. 3. Eligibility and Entry 3.1 International Optimist Dinghies may enter by completing the accompanying entry form and paying all entry fees. 3.2 Competitors shall be current members of BODA or of their National Authority and will have been born on or after January 1, Entry Fees 4.1 The early entry fee is US$ for all competitors who have completed all parts of the registration together with payment of all fees by October 20 st, Regular entry fees of

2 US$ shall be paid for complete registrations from October 20 nd, 2015 through October 31 st, 2015 and an additional fee of US$25.00 (Total US$190.00) shall be paid for late registrations complete and received after October 31 st, 2015 and by 8:00pm on November 6 th, No entries will be accepted after this time. 4.2 Registration includes completing the entry form, payment of the entry free, a signed Guardian release waiver along with a signed Code of Conduct. The latter two documents will be supplied once initial registration is received. 5. Format of the Regatta 5.1 There will be a Championship fleet that will race as a single division 5.2 There will be a Green Fleet which will have a separate NoR. 5.3 The OA may divide the fleet into two divisions should entries exceed Schedule 6.1 The Championship will consist of 8 races. The intention is that no more than 4 races will be sailed a day, although a 5th race may be sailed if weather or other reasons dictate. Three races constitute a regatta. 6.2 Program & Schedule Friday, November 6 th On Site Registration 1800 Barefoot BBQ and welcome party R.H.A.D.C. Sailing Instructions Preliminary sailing instructions will be available online at and and final official sailing instructions will be available at registration. 8. Venue Racing will be in The Great Sound, Bermuda or Granaway Deep, Bermuda. 9. The Course The course will be included in the Sailing Instructions and the intention is to use the IODA trapezoid where possible and when conditions allow. The intention is for each race to be approximately 45 minutes duration for the first boat. 10. Penalty System Penalties shall be in accordance with RRS unless changed by the Si s. 11. Scoring 11.1 The Low Point Scoring System of rule Appendix A will apply Three races are required to constitute a series When fewer that six (6) races have been completed, a boat s series score will be the total of all of her race scores. When from six (6) to ten (10) races have been completed, a boat s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score. When eleven (11) races have been completed, a boat s series score will be the total of her races scores excluding her two (2) worst scores.

Safety and Adult Responsibility 12.1 Each competitor shall have a whistle attached to their PFD at all times while on the water Each boat shall have a secure loop at the end of it s bowline An adult (Parent, Guardian or designated adult) is responsible for the safety of each sailor. It is the responsibility solely of this adult to decide if the sailor should sail in the weather and sea conditions that might arise during the event. The adults supervising the competitors are ultimately responsible for the risks Parents not personally attending any part of the event shall ensure that another adult is authorized and designated to make these decisions for their sailor, and each competitor shall indicate in writing on the Guardian Release form, the parent or adult representative that will be responsible for the competitor throughout the event The designated adult shall accept full responsibility for all actions of the competitor during any activity related to the event. This includes on-shore activities before, during and after the regatta. 13. Charter Boats All Optimist charters must be reserved by October 20 th Local Club boats will be offered in order of confirmations received. 14. Coaches and Support Boats 14.1 Coach boats shall be registered with the OA before the first day of racing and shall declare the competitors with whom they are associated One coach (support) boat for every twelve (12) sailors may be registered Coach and support boats may be required to carry flags. These are to be flown at all times whilst on the water. Each coach boat shall have a working VHF radio and an anchor suitable for anchoring in the waiting area Coach and support boats will be required to monitor a designated VHF channel in order to render assistance as requested by the RC The conduct of coaches, parents serving on the race committee (including safety patrol), registered support boats and all other boats including spectator boats will be governed by the SI s.

Prizes Prizes will be given as follows: Overall 1 st through 5 th Bermuda national Champion (resident of Bermuda) Top girl Top Junior (born in 2004 or later) Peter Mitchell Sportsmanship Prize 16. Disclaimer of Liability Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See rule 4, Decision to Race. The OA will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during or after the regatta. A waiver will be signed by all competitors and their parent/guardian. 17.
