2 Page 2/3 August 10, 2011 COMMENTS Designed as an economical, robust and quick world cruising boat, the Triton95 is also specifically sized and equipped to operate and store a Triton 3300/2 submarine. The narrow hull form coupled with a long water line length gives exceptional performance figures with extremely low power requirements and ocean spanning range. This hull form and the gyroscopic stabilisation system combine to provide an incomparable ride quality and safety in even extreme conditions. Construction The hull is constructed from Corten steel plate over laser cut frames. Longitudinal framing is used extensively to give the vessel very high longitudinal stiffness and minimal hull structural weight. Corten gives a robust structure with better corrosion and strength characteristics than standard mild steel plate. All tanks are structural and integrated into the hull under the accommodation areas, providing essentially a double bottom forward. The deck and house are to be of marine grade aluminium lightweight and strong. Attention will be paid to keep the weight of the vessel, especially the deck, as light as possible. This will achieved by use of both traditional and computational structural design methods. All structure is engineered to the chosen code standard. Propulsion System Also setting this vessel apart is the implementation of twin-engine, single shaft propulsion system driving a controllable pitch propeller. This allows for a very flexible and efficient driveline giving very high levels of driveline protection as well as redundancy. The twin John Deere engines will drive through a combining V-drive reduction gear allowing for the vessel to power at cruise with only one engine running at any one time. Both can be combined for sprint speed and at all times efficiency is assured with the controllable pitch propeller, which can be tailored for any speed/power combination. This vessel is ideally suited for a diesel-electric propulsion system and this solution would negate the requirement for a combining gear. It is suggested that a 3 x genset, Siemens-elfa technology based system would be appropriate. Submarine support and LARS This vessel is designed specifically to carry and support a Triton 3300/2 personal submarine. The submarine is stowed in a separate compartment aft of the machinery area, accessible through large deck hatches as well as through personnel hatches fore and aft. The submarine is launched using twin, rotating arms - hydraulically actuated. These arms support a custom made cradle into which the submarine sits. To launch, the hatches are opened and the arms raised. The winches on the arms are now used to raise the submarine up somewhat. The arms then rotate the submarine on the cradle up, aft and down into the water. The process is reversed for retrieval. These arms are can also be used to lift the tender for the vessel which is stowed, when underway, on the aft bathing platform. The arms are tailor designed and engineering for this purpose and stow in deck lockers either side of the submarine compartment. These lockers act as deck longitudinal stiffeners and are covered with flush hatch covers when not in use. 35_95' cruiser_design comments_prelim.doc

3 Page 3/3 August 10, 2011 Accommodation The vessel is suited for extended period cruising with 2 or 3 couples with or without crew. The main two guest cabins are located centrally for comfort at sea and both feature ensuites. Similarly the galley and pilothouse are located for comfortable use at sea. Twin cabins, each with double bunks, are forward, sharing a head. Aft of the accommodation area is a large ondeck workshop containing access stairs each side to both the side deck and down to the engine room. The engine room is large and of full headroom. Access to the submarine compartment is aft, through a watertight door. On deck the vessel features side decks running forward securely behind raised bulwarks allowing secure access to the foredeck. Aft is a raised lounge area extending aft of the pilothouse. The expansive raised deck over the engine room and submarine hanger makes an ideal entertaining area, leading down aft to the large bathing and boarding platform..end 35_95' cruiser_design comments_prelim.doc
