15 Crew Profile Captain Simon Smith and Chef Sarah Powell Sailing dinghies from a young age in the beautiful Lake District of England, Simon moved quickly on to smaller keelboats and racing yachts to feed his passion for the sea. At the age of 22 he was given his first professional command and has been Captain or Chief Officer on various 80 to 135ft sailing and motor superyachts since then. Simon speaks Spanish, French and German. His sense of humour, boutique hospitality skills and great eye for detail all contribute to unforgettable charters on board. Holding a Commercially Endorsed Yachtmaster Ocean with more than 80,000 sea miles and many weeks of successful charters completed, Simon s knowledge of the best cruising areas is considerable. When he isn t busy pampering Emmaline and her lucky guests, you may find him with a rugby ball in hand, sampling wines from a local artisan vineyard he has found, or simply catching up with family. If you like food, after a luxurious trip on board Emmaline, you will love food. As a teenager Sarah won a National Cookery Competition which set her heart off in only one direction. She spent 3 years at catering college learning everything you could possibly imagine, and from here was offered a position in the Kitchens at Buckingham Palace after working there and at Windsor Castle. She declined the offer and travelled to the Far East and Australia, learning more about international cuisine, local methods of cooking, new spices and tastes which she now incorporates into her food. After successful seasons in the French Alps working for one of the most prestigious alpine ski companies, she migrated to yachts, initially as a stewardess to gain more experience, and then moving quickly into Chef Positions on yachts as large as 75m. Her knowledge of food in general is outstanding. She believes in using only the freshest of local produce to include as much variety in her dishes as is possible. When you can t find Sarah in the Galley, she will be hurtling down a ski slope, horse riding or playing tennis.

Dries and Stella, First Mate and Stewardess Dries, hailing from South Africa, has been part of the Emmaline team for 2 years.

Dries has participated in a lot of Regatta s including Antigua Classic s and St Barth s Bucket, he has a passion for wooden classics.

He is also a qualified captain in his own right, and also certified to 3000T as Officer of the Watch.

Before that he worked for over 7 years on a range of beautiful sailing yachts exploring the Caribbean, New England, Mediterranean and most Islands and waters in between. Dries has participated in a lot of Regatta s including Antigua Classic s and St Barth s Bucket, he has a passion for wooden classics. His love for sailing and the great experiences he has had on board make him a very committed team member. He is also a qualified captain in his own right, and also certified to 3000T as Officer of the Watch. A keen diver and fisherman, Dries is also great with kids and has been known to hold the occasional splicing class. Stella, is from Trento, Italy. She developed her passion for sailing on Lake Garda. Stella also has a medical background and contributes a lot to the overall safety of the guests and the vessel. She grew up in a family that loves traveling and has been all over the globe experiencing different cultures. She speaks Russian, English and basic German. She is also passionate about hospitality and cookery and makes a Tiramisu that should not be missed! Stella aims to provide the best levels of service to guests on board, especially the younger ones. Climbing, cooking and slacklining is among her hobbies. Simon and his carefully selected team really look forward to welcoming you on board to start your relaxing adventure.
