1 Nations Cup 2014 Solo Fraglia Vela Riva Lake Garda - ltaly 8-11 July 2014 NOTICE OF RACE DATE, VENUE AND ORGANISING AUTHORITY The Solo Nations Cup 2013 will be held at Fraglia Vela Riva from 8th to 11th July The Organising Authority is the Fraglia Vela Riva in conjunction with the Solo Class Association, the Italian Sailing Federation (FIV) and the International Sailing Federation (ISAF). RULES The regatta will be governed by the Rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS), except as any of these is altered by this Notice of Race or by the Sailing Instructions and/or the Solo Class Rules. The Italian Prescription will not apply. ADVERTISING Advertising is permitted as from Class Rules. Boats may be required to display advertising chosen and supplied by the organizing authority. ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY The ISAF Eligibility Code will apply. The regatta is open to any Solo boat A boat entered in the regatta must meet the class rules for membership of the class association. All members of Italian crews must have a Italian Sailing Federation membership card valid for year 2013 Only boats having completed all Registration Requirements will be allowed to compete. Entry forms must be sent on-line through the website The entry form must be filled in paying attention to the unavoidable fields in red and sent to FVR clicking on SEND at the bottom of the entry form. All entries when confirmed will be displayed on the event website. Inclusion on this notice can be considered as acceptance of entry ENTRY FEES Entry fee is fixed in 140,00 per boat. The above mentioned fee must be paid in cash, with credit card at on-site registration at the race office of Fraglia Vela Riva prior competing in the Regatta

SCHEDULE OF RACES AND EVENTS Ten (10) races are scheduled, (2 or 3 per day). The schedule of the races will be announced per day. Rescheduling of races may be made at the discretion of the Race Committee. No warning signal will be given after on Friday 11 July. MEASUREMENTS Each participating boat shall have and carry a valid Measurement Certificate. Hulls and sails must be in conformity with the Rules of the Class Associations. The Race Committee may check all boats and crews before, during and after the races.

3 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS The sailing instructions will be available after 9:00 on July 8 at the Race Office located at the ground floor of the Fraglia Vela Riva. VENUE Attachment 1 shows the location of the racing area. THE COURSES The courses to be sailed will be triangle courses. PENALTY SYSTEM No international Jury will be appointed. TIME LIMITS AND TARGET TIMES The length of the course will be set to meet a target time of approximately 60 minutes for the first boat in each race to finish. The time limit will be 90 minutes. Failure to meet the target time will not be grounds for redress. This changes rule 62.1(a). Boats failing to finish within 15 minutes after the first boat sails the course and finishes will be scored Did Not Finish without a hearing. This changes rules 35, A4 and A5. SCORING Four races are required to be completed to constitute a series. The Low Point scoring system of RRS Appendix A will apply. (a) When fewer than 5 races have been completed, a boat s series score will be the total of her race scores. (b) When from 5 to 8 races have been completed, a boat s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score. (c) When from 9 to 10 races have been completed, a boat s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her 2 worst scores BERTHING Boats shall be kept in their assigned places in the boat park RADIO COMMUNICATION Except in an emergency, a boat shall neither make radio transmissions while racing nor receive radio communications not available to all boats. This restriction also applies to mobile telephones. PRIZES Prizes will be awarded at least to the first five (5) placed boats and to the best female competitor.

4 LIABILITIES It is the competitor s decision to enter the regatta or to start and continue in any race. Competitors shall accept that their participation in the regatta is at their exclusive risk in every respect. See RRS Rule 4, Decision to Race. The Organising Authority and the respective Host Sailing Club, their officers, members, servants and agents accept no responsibility in respect of loss of life, personal injury or loss or damage to property which may be sustained by reason of their participation or intended participation in the regatta or howsoever arising in connection with the regatta. RIGHT TO USE NAME AND LIKENESS In participating in the Nations Cup 2014 Solo any competitor automatically grants to the Organising Authority and the sponsors of the Nations Cup 2014 Solo the right in perpetuity, to make, use and show, from time to time and at their discretion, any motion pictures and live, taped or film television and other reproductions of him/her during the period of the competition for the said Nations Cup 2014 Solo in which the competitor participates and in all material related to the said Nations Cup 2014 Solo without compensation. INSURANCE Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance with a minimum cover of per event or the equivalent. 5 FURTHER INFORMATION 1.Weather information: Summer weather conditions Thanks to the lake Riva del Garda benefits from a Mediterranean climate. In July temperature can reach 30 /33 degrees during the day. Wind / Racing: Northern Lake Garda is well known for being a sailing mecca, largely due to the thermally generated Ora wind that kicks in from the south usually around 12-1pm, and builds regularly up to a F4 and occasionally up to a F6-F7. This places an emphasis on strong boat handling as well as speed in these conditions. Conventional theory is that there s more breeze nearer the cliffs but that only holds true some of the time and also depends on the racing area you use. Occasionally you get thunderstorms rolling around the mountains and the clouds and drop in temperature can prevent the Ora from kicking in and if the light northerly or Peler is in place racing does sometimes take place in the wrong direction which emphasises a range of different skill sets. 2. Typically the best options are either hotels or selfcatering apartments. If you go for a hotel in the town, it s nearer the club and the evening entertainment. See 4. The town of Riva is particularly attractive and has a wide range of shops, bars and interesting restaurants. For nonsailing friends there s a lot to do on holiday including mountain biking, windsurfing hill climbing, canyoning, beach activities (pebbly), canoeing etc. The majority of which are all available within a short walk of the town centre. One of the features of this end of the

6 lake (in Trentino) is that no motorboats are allowed (other than ferries or rescue boats) which helps to keep the noise levels down and the dreaded jet-skiers out of the picture. So if you have friends or relatives interested in sharing your holiday bring them along. Getting There: Airports to head for are either Verona, Brescia or Bergamo, all of which can be reached by a number of cheap airlines e.g. Ryan air or FlyBe. The nearest Airport to Riva d/g is the Verona Catullo one, that is 60 Km far away from Riva. On arrival at the airport of Verona the next issue is transport to / from Riva. Options include: Taking direct buses Verona - Riva d/g (for more info see ). Taking the railway Verona - Rovereto. From Rovereto to Riva there is not railway service but buses connect the two towns nearly every hour (for more info see ) Taking a taxi. For more info about taxes see the above point taxi service. Hiring car for the week (for more info see ). If driving from the Airport then follow the A4 east to the A22 North signposted Brennero, and exit at the Rovereto Sud exit (toll fee payable). Follow signs to Torbole and then Riva. After the tunnel from Torbole you will enter Riva itself, continue on the main road until you get to a roundabout, turn left here and the sailing club If flying to Milano, please take note that particularly the Milano Malpensa Airport is 250 Km far away from Riva del Garda.
