1 Sto-away Power Cranes, Inc. How to Properly Set up the Bumper Crane for use. KEEP IN MIND THAT YOU ARE THE KEY TO SAFETY

2 Parking your Truck on a Level area. Park the truck in a position that gives you the maximum working range as possible. Free from as many obstacles as possible. Position the truck so that the crane is as level as you can get it. Set your parking brake and block your wheels as necessary.

3 SET YOUR OUTRIGGER LEG Unscrew the outrigger leg lock bolt and allow it to swing down. Adjust the height of the outrigger leg to about 1-2 between the outrigger leg and the ground.

4 If in a Soft or Sandy Terrain find a 3/4 piece of plywood If the outrigger leg is positioned over soft or sandy terrain, we recommend that a 10" square piece of 3/4" plywood (or equal) to be placed underneath the outrigger foot to assure firm positioning.

5 Un-pin the steps and fold them down into place. Fold Down the Steps

6 Open Up the Small and Large lid If your STO-AWAY Bumper Crane comes with a steel or aluminum locking top, you need to completely open both the large and small hinge covers.

7 Raising the Crane out of the Bumper Walk over to the top of the mast (this is usually on the driver's side of the truck) and use your right hand to grab the back rib and start pulling up this end of the crane.

8 Walk the Crane to it s Upright Position, continued As soon as you can, place your left hand underneath the folded crane and instead of continuing to pull the crane up,

9 Walk the Crane to it s Upright Position, continued We recommend that You Walk and Push the Crane to it s full Up right position.

10 Locking the Crane Mast into Place Take the large mast locking pin, from storage, and start inserting it through the face of the bumper. Gently bring the crane's mast to a right angle from the top of the bumper.

11 Locking the Crane Mast into Place (continued) The crane will actually go slightly past the up and down position with it resting against the passenger side of the bumper. This is not the working position for the crane. It is only a temporary resting point so that if you have to switch hands to insert the mast locking pin, you can do this safely without worrying about the cranes mast falling back into the bumper.

12 Removing the Cotterless Safety Pin Unlatch the lifting hook from its resting point, remove the cotterless safety pin from the boom's support arm and use both hands to raise the boom to one of its working height setting.

13 Raising the Boom to Your Working Height Both the Safety Yellow and Hand Guard on the Boom's support arm is to indicate the location of a potentially serious pinch point zone. Keep your hands out of this area.

14 Re-inserting the Safety Cotterless Pin Once you have the desired working height ; re-insert the safety cotterless pin completely through the support arm. The function of this safety pin is to assure that the boom stays locked in place should your hook receive a sudden upward movement, i.e.: when you pull a fence post out of the ground and it suddenly breaks free, if that safety pin is not completely locked in, the boom will get enough momentum to raise itself from its resting point and slap itself against the mast in an extremely quick and violent action.

15 Insert the hand control into the corner socket Insert your hand control into the socket on the end of the bumper. Line up the prongs and then twist to insert.

16 Making Sure the Bumper Crane is Powered Up. Make sure that the power is on. Now you are ready to use the crane.

17 Always Inspect and Maintain the Crane Before each use. Please review with your co-workers the following Sections in your owners manual: INSPECTION (Pgs ) MAINTENANCE (Pgs )

18 Safely Lifting with the Crane When powering out the cable, always keep it taunt. Always lift your payload straight up and down, no side pulls. FOR MORE SAFETY TIPS FOR LIFTING SEE SECTION 5.2 (PAGE 30)

19 CLEANLINESS IS THE KEY TO THE PERFECT STO-AWAY KEEP DIRT, MUD, AND SALT FROM BUILDING UP ON YOUR STO-AWAY If you have a pressure washer, use it to keep your STO- AWAY clean. Make sure that you lubricate and grease it afterwards. If you use your STO-AWAY in salt, rich environments, make sure you order a W.R. kit for your STO- AWAY (if you don't already have one). YOU WON'T REGRET IT!!!!!
