6 Proposal for a change/improvement LHC gas systems maintenance and operation agreement Currently (from the M&O agreement): The piquet person will write a short report of intervention in the elogbook of the experiment. However: It is difficult to implement (different rules between the experiments) Most important, it makes almost impossible for us (GasTeam) to keep track of our maintenance activities, operational issues, Since two years, we have an elog for the GasTeam and we would like to keep track of our activities in this elog in a centralized way to improve and facilitate the maintenance planning. What we propose during 2018 as a test: detector contact persons will be automatically notified by mean of the egroup gas-users-lhcb-elog detector contact persons will decide if it worth to copy/paste the info in the experiment elog All the rest concerning communication remains. For example, The piquet person will inform the shift leader on duty of 11/10/2018 any intervention or repair. R. Guida on behalf of the Gas Team 6

8 Beyond M&O budget M&O addendum: 1) Operation of detector technologies with gas recirculation systems at HL-LHC luminosities 2) Gas systems for new environmental friendly gas mixtures still under discussion 3) Gas systems R&D for upgrade/consolidation 1 doctoral, 1 technical, 1 TTE (the latter for the 1st year 50% for CMS-CF4 recuperation) hired and integrated in the team. Examples: Gas analysis (gas chromatograph, upgrade of gas analysis rack and more) Gas recuperation (upgrades/consolidations of the present CF4 plant, development of R134a-SF6 recuperation plants) Developments for future upgrades 11/10/2018 R. 11 Beyond M&O budget Preliminary achievements: CF4 recuperation plant (CMS-CSC): 1 50% (M&O addendum). test/tuning of the 1 st and 4 th modules started recuperated CF4 is used for the operation of the CSC detector R134a recuperation plant: Same TTE as before (i.e. M&O 50% P&I drawing for a first setup ready Components ordered (90% already received). Planning is to build the system by the end of October and to install it on one experiment during TS3 (most probably first test on ATLAS, then move on CMS next year) Goal: first evaluation of quality and efficiency of recuperated R134a. 11/10/2018 R. 13 Conclusions LHC M&O LHC M&O activities are well defined and supported by the M&O agreement budget situation is ok Beyond M&O M&O addendum and CEPS budget will allow addressing new challenges and solve old issues (examples: improvement of RPC gas systems to cope with detector fragility and R134a recuperation).
