4 Fishing Equipment Technician (Electronics) CURRICULUM / SYLLABUS This program is aimed at training candidates for the job of a Fishing Equipment Technician (Electronics), in the Agriculture & Allied Sector/Industry and aims at building the following key competencies amongst the learner Program Name Qualification Pack Name & Reference ID. AGR/Q5106, v1.0 Version No. 1.0 Version Update Date Pre-requisites to Training Training Outcomes Class 10 After completing this programme, participants will be able to: Install, operate and maintain Marine VHF Radio: Erect the antenna and provide suitable connections, test the equipment for proper functioning, familiarise crew members with the operation and the emergency communication procedures, rectify the common errors and failures in the shortest time possible. Install, operate and maintain Global Positioning System (GPS): Install the GPS and make all connections, test the equipment to ensure proper functioning, familiarize crew members with the operation including emergency operations. detect the common faults and rectify it Install, operate and maintain Fish Finder and Echo sounder: Install the equipment with its accessories including transducer, test the equipment to ensure proper functioning, explain its operations to the crew members.detect the common faults and rectify it Install, operate and maintain Automatic Identification System (AIS): Installation of its antennas and give proper connections, test the equipment to ensure proper functioning, explain its operations to the crew members, detect the common faults and rectify it Practice safety & Hygiene at the work place: Implement all safety precautions for self and other crew members, ensure safety at sea and other water bodies during navigation and fishing operations, follow emergency procedures 1

Familiarize with the usage of soldering, de-soldering & crimping Familiarize with the wireless licensing procedures Understand the instructions, precautions, trouble shooting etc given by the manufacturer in the Manual. Install VHF antenna and make necessary connections including Power, Earth connection, GPS feed etc. Test VHF equipment for correct functioning Familiarize with all controls and procedures for communication using VHF equipment. Teach crew members about the operations of the VHF radio including emergency communication procedures Rectify common errors and failures effectively and in a timely manner Install GPS antenna and make necessary connections including Power and Earthing. 8 Trainer Prerequisites for Job role: Fishing Equipment Technician (Electronics) mapped to Qualification Pack: AGR/Q5106, v1.0 Sr. No. Area Details 1 Description Trainer is responsible for educating the trainees Installation of electronic equipments with all its accessories, operation of equipments, general fault finding and emergency operating procedures 2 Personal Attributes Trainer should be a Subject Matter Expert. He/ she should have good communication, leadership, observation and practical oriented skills. 3 Minimum Diploma (Fisheries) Educational Qualifications 4a Domain Certification Certified for Job Role: mapped to QP: AGR/Q5106, v1.0. Minimum accepted score is 80%. 4b Platform Certification Certified for the Job Role: Trainer, mapped to the Qualification Pack: MEP/Q0102. Minimum accepted % as per respective SSC guidelines is 80%. 5 Experience B. F. Sc/ M.F.Sc./ M.Sc. in Marine Biology/ Industrial Fisheries/ Mariculture B. Sc (Fisheries)/M.Sc. Zoology with 1 year of relevant work experience B. Sc. Zoology with 2 years of relevant work experience Diploma (more than 12 months) in fisheries with 3 years of relevant work experience 5

9 Annexure: Assessment Criteria Job Role Qualification Pack AGR/Q5106, v1.0 Sector Skill Council Agriculture Skill Council of India Guidelines for Assessment 1. Criteria for assessment for each Qualification Pack will be created by the Sector Skill Council. Each Performance Criteria (PC) will be assigned marks proportional to its importance in NOS. SSC will also lay down proportion of marks for Theory and Skills Practical for each PC 2. The assessment for the theory part will be based on knowledge bank of questions created by the SSC 3. Individual assessment agencies will create unique question papers for theory part for each candidate at each examination/training center (as per assessment criteria below) 4. Individual assessment agencies will create unique evaluations for skill practical for every student at each examination/training center based on this criteria 5. To pass the Qualification Pack, every trainee should score a minimum of 70% in aggregate 6. In case of successfully passing only certain number of NOS's, the trainee is eligible to take subsequent assessment on the balance NOS's to pass the Qualification Pack 6

AGR/N5103 Ensure safety, hygiene and sanitation practices for capture fisheries and fishing assistance timely manner PC20. assist in installation of AIS PC21. carry out regular inspection including battery maintenance PC22. explain operation to fellow crew members PC23. deal with common errors and failures effectively and in timely manner PC1. identify tools and supplies required to carry out basic routine maintenance tasks PC2. monitor and implement the routine maintenance procedures such as: make routine adjustments and repairs according to operating manuals/manufacturer s specifications/and supervisor s instructions ensure the equipments are cleaned and stored as per specifications test the range of all connections PC3. check and record error logs PC4. record any feedback received from users of the equipments PC5. report major malfunctions, faults, wear and damage to the supervisor according to supervisor requirements PC1. use safe working and 100 emergency procedures of all machinery used, their controls and limitations PC2. update self with areas such as seamanship, rope work, working with nets and other onboard fishing equipment, all life saving and firefighting equipment on board, their uses and applications PC3. monitor pollution laws related to the disposal of fish, fisheries management laws related to fishing methods and gear, conservation laws related to banned species PC4. ensure adherence to safe operation of all fishing 8

12 electronic equipments PC5. monitor international regulations for preventing collisions pertaining to fishing boats, and the CRZ pertaining to inshore areas PC6. update self with underwater dangers along the fishing route PC7. predict close quarter situations with other boats/ships well in advance PC8. apply emergency measures during rough weather PC9. demonstrate signals to exhibit while fishing PC10. identify poisonous creatures that come up with the catch and dispose of them safely PC11. carry out use of all personal life saving equipment on board, as and when required PC12. monitor the effect of bacteria on fish, rate of decomposition, how and why gutting prolongs freshness, importance of chilling quickly PC13. handle fish without bruising it, store without crushing and in a hygienic manner PC14. update self with knowledge of risks, dangers and limitations of fishing in the sea and other water bodies PC15. ensure the assistance provided can withstand the rigors of the sea and other water bodies and does not endanger life or damage machinery GRAND TOTAL
