Otherwise, replace hoses after five years. For safe operation, use a leak detector to prevent gas leaks. They are typically mounted onto the torch inlet connections or are integrated into the torch handle. Regulator outlet models are also available. 15 Cutting Attachments The combination of the Blueshield 500 series cutting attachments to the 00 series torch handles provides a high-quality cutting tool. The cutting attachment connects to the end of a torch handle in place of the welding tip. For cutting thicknesses over 6 inches (change to metric), use a Blueshield hand cutting torch. - Tip-Mix Design: This feature is the most secure as the gas mixing happens at the tip and contain flashback to the head only. It also protects the torch tubes from being damaged and allows the torch to be used with any gas service - all you need to do is change the cutting tip. 16 Hand Cutting Torches The handcutting torch is generally used for cutting thicker metal than can be cut with a cutting attachment, or for heavy duty cutting work. 17 Cutting Tips The tip of a torch is where the action is. The proper size cutting, welding or heating tip is essential if quality work is to be done. Acetylene produces the highest flame temperature of all the fuel gases and generates a highly focused flame. 24 Regulators With pressure in a full Acetylene cylinder at 50 psig and a full oxygen cylinder at 00 psig, a way is needed to lower cylinder pressures to desired working pressures for use in the torch. This is accomplished by using an adjustable pressure reducing regulator. The regulator also maintain a steady working pressure as the cylinder pressure drops from use. Oxygen and acetylene regulators connect differently to their cylinders so they can not be mixed up. Oxygen regulators have right hand threads and regulators for Acetylene and other fuel gases have left hand threads.. 34 Flashback Arrestors A backfire (a cracking or popping sound) is when the flame ignites the gases inside the nozzle and extinguishes. This can happen when the torch is held too close to the workpiece. A flashback (a shrill hissing sound) occurs when the flame burns inside the torch. The rapid high pressure flame (about metres a second) can move from the torch to the gas supply hose, to the regulators, and possibly into the gas cylinders, and could even cause the cylinder to explode. Because flashback happens too quickly for the gas to be turned off manually before damage occurs, it is essential to have flashback arrestors on both gas hoses in all oxy-fuel welding, cutting or heating operations. It is recommended to use four flashback arrestors: two at the regulators and two at the toch. D-4

36 Warranty and Statement of user responsibilities Warranty Blueshield Gas Apparatus Air Liquide Canada warrants each new product or part of to be free from defect in worksmanship and material with one year from the date of purchase by the user as a result of normal use and service. The company will replace the part or parts so determined by it to be defective by new parts, at company s cost and expense. This warranty is exclusive, and there are no other warranties or representations expressed or implied. Statement of user responsibilities Blueshield gas welding and cutting equipment should be checked periodically and repaired, reset or replaced as necessary for continued safe and reliable performance. Personal injury and or property damage may result if defective or improperly adjusted equipment is used. Air Liquide recommends the use of flashback arrestors for increased safety at all times. D-6
