This booklet will guide you through the use of your new inflatatable, from getting it out of the bag to putting it back in again and includes instructions on the correct set up of your inflatable as well as safety and operating guidelines. 3 Wet-side inflatables Description These instructions are provided for all pool inflatable equipment, including sealed units, constant air units (eg. Aquaruns) and inflatable water slides (eg. Airshutes). Sealed inflatables require a hand-held blower. Once inflated, the blower is turned off and the inlet sealed with a cap and bung. A hand-held blower is not included with the product, but if required, one can be purchased separately from Airspace. Contact us for further information. Constant air inflatables need to be continuously inflated with a blower and flexible hose. The blower must be located in a safe location, away from poolside, preferably well away from the public. Your new constant air inflatable comes with an electric blower and a 10m length of flexible hose and all the correct fittings necessary. If you require additional lengths of hose, these can be purchased separately. Please contact Airspace for further information. Hazards Our products are manufactured to the highest standards and designed to provide years of enjoyment. However, as with all fun activities, there are risks associated with their use. These instructions are designed to indicate the potential hazards and risks associated with the use of our products and to advise you, the operator, on the measures that you need to take into consideration to reduce these potential risks. The following are potentially hazardous occurrences: User impact with the edge of the pool User impact with the bottom of the pool, due to the user falling off in to water of an insufficient depth. Insufficient depth of water at the end of the slide Inadequate tethering Injury caused by user impact with a tethering device Injury caused by using an electric blower in a wet environment Inadequate supervision of the users and the structure Injury caused by inappropriate or dangerous behaviour Overloading the structure with too many users causing damage or deflation, causing possible entrapment Exceptional use of the equipment leading to wear and/or damage possibly leading to deflation or entrapment Poor water quality leading to introduction of Pseudomonas organisms and possibly other forms of bacteria Injury cause by outdoor use in inappropriate conditions Weak swimmers out of their depth All of these can be minimised by purchasing the correct product for your intended location of use and by implementing proper supervision arrangements by appropriately trained staff. These steps will all assist in providing a safe and enjoyable activity for your customers. Wet-side inflatables 3 4

4 Wet-side inflatables Prior to Use A risk assessment must be carried out by the operator to determine the risks arising from the activity. This must include any measures necessary to reduce the risk. A manual handling assessment must also be carried out to determine the risks arising from the handling of the product. Some of our products are large and bulky and the assessment must determine how many staff are required and what equipment, if any, is needed to safely move the equipment from its storage location to its place of use. Unpacking and Inflating Before unpacking your product ensure that all the surfaces are clean and free of sharp or abrasive objects. If the product is to be unpacked on an abrasive surface, lay a protective ground sheet over the area to prevent damage to the product. Pay attention to the way in which the product has been packed. You will need to reverse your unpacking procedure after use when packing away for storage. The way your unit is rolled and packed when you first receive it is how you should pack and store it when not in use. Your manual handling assessment should detail how the product is to be handled. Wet-side inflatables Electrical safety is of paramount importance. The pool s electrical installation and its protective systems must be verified for adequacy and compliance with the Electricity at Work Regulations (1989). Fixed electrical installations should be inspected and tested at least annually and more frequently for equipment subject to more arduous conditions e.g. high humidity. Never drag the structure across the floor. Always move the product in the storage bag provided; your manual handling assessment may highlight the need for a trolley or other type of moving equipment. Before inflating the product, unwrap it fully and lay it flat on the poolside. Written operating procedures, including normal operating procedures and emergency action plans must be devised. These Airspace user instructions are NOT designed to replace or provide a written operating procedure, they are provided as a guide to help you develop your own procedures. Training in the safe handling and proper use of our product must be undertaken prior to its use. Product training is available on request on all Airspace products by your trained Account Manager. 5 6

5 Wet-side inflatables Safe use of Electrical Blower The following precautions should be taken, as a minimum, to ensure safe use of the electrical blower: The blower must be connected to a supply voltage corresponding to the electrical rating of the blower as indicated. Unplug the blower before moving. Residential current circuit breakers (RCCBs) should be tested daily by operating the test button, or if used less than once a day, tested every time they are used. Do not operate with a damaged supply cord or plug, after it malfunctions, or after it has been damaged Inflating a Sealed Inflatable To inflate, remove the red cap, remove the bung and place the nozzle of the blower over the inlet hole. Keep the cap and bung safe. Ensure hands are completely dry before using the blower and make sure that the area in which the blower is used is also completely dry. If an extension lead has been used, ensure it is fully unwound to prevent over-heating. Make sure that there are no trailing leads. Wet-side inflatables in any way. Do not overload electrical outlets beyond their capacity as this can result in fire or electrical shock. Do not alter the attachment plug. The plug is configured for the appropriate electrical supply. Never put objects into the ventilation holes on the blower unit. Do not spill liquid of any kind on the blower. Blowers must be situated a minimum of 2m away from the basin area Care must be taken not to over-inflate the product which, when correctly inflated, will be firm but have some give. It is always better for the unit to be on the soft side than for it to be too firm. When the product is sufficiently inflated, remove the nozzle, replace the bung and screw on the red cap. When the red cap is secure ensure that no part of the inlet protrudes beyond the body of the structure by pushing the nozzle into the inflatable. The 12 month warranty does not include damage to the product caused by over-inflation. Electrical cables must be safely routed out of the way and taped down if necessary Any electrical device supplied as part of your order should under no circumstances be used near water. Operators should carry out their own on site risk assessment and produce guidelines on safe use of electrical equipment. Always use the inflation point furthest from water 7 8

6 Wet-side inflatables Inflating a Constant Air Structure Aquaruns are constant blow, or constant air, devices. This means they must always have air flowing through them with a constant feed to maintain their shape and structural integrity. The blowers for these products are freestanding devices, which must be sited away from the pool tank, in accordance with the relevant requirements (UK: Electricity at Work Regulations 1989). 10 metres (32ft 6ins) of flexible hose is provided with the product as standard. If this is insufficient for your site, further hosing can be purchased from us. Connect one end of the hose to the blower outlet with the jubilee clip supplied. Place the other end of the hosing inside the inlet sleeve and further into the main body of the inflatable itself by at least 30cm. (If the hose is not inserted fully into the inflatable and is only in the sleeve, the pressure will blow the hose out and cause the unit to deflate whilst in use.) Fasten the webbing strap on the inlet sleeve tightly to secure the hose firmly in place. The blower MUST continue to run whilst the unit is in use and on the water. Do not turn off the blower if the unit is on the water. Positioning, Securing and Clearance from Pool Sides Sealed Units: One of the biggest risks to users of pool inflatables is falling off the inflatable and striking the pool edge. To minimise the risk of injury there should be a minimum clearance of 2m (6ft 6ins) on all sides of the inflatable. Diving from, or standing on structures is prohibited. This must be enforced through appropriate signage, user instructions and staff supervision arrangements. Additional Clearance requirements Aquaruns: A possible hazard arising from the use of an Aquarun is the danger of falling backwards from the structure and hitting the edge of the pool. To prevent this from occurring, the start of the structure (known as the jump bed or platform ) can be positioned 1m up to a maximum of 1.5m from the poolside so that users enter the unit with a forward motion. However, if the access to the inflatable is attended by a trained member of staff, access can be allowed directly from the edge of the pool. The role of the attendant is to prevent running access which increases the likelihood of slipping and impact with the pool surround. The end (finish) of the inflatable should be situated as least 2.5m (8ft 1ins) away from the edge of the pool. In addition, there should be a clearance of at least 2.5m (8ft 1ins) from each side of the pool tank. Wet-side inflatables 9 10

7 Wet-side inflatables Clearance from roof structures - all products When an inflatable with a slide is being used, care should be taken to ensure that there is adequate headroom above the inflatable. It is recommended that there be at least 3m (10ft) clear headroom above the overall height of the slide. Anchoring pool structures all products To minimise the hazards associated with inadequately secured inflatables, they should always be securely anchored in the appropriate location with the clearances outlined above. Airspace products are supplied with bungee cord tied to the anchor points. These are designed to allow some movement during use. These bungee cords should not be removed as this will result in excessive strain on the anchor points, possibly causing the inflatable to tear. Ropes used to secure the inflatable to the poolside or pool bottom must be highly visible and must not be tensioned too tightly, otherwise damage could occur to the anchor points on the structure. 8 Wet-side inflatables Water Depth For smaller sealed units without a high fall off height, there should be a minimum depth of around all sides of the inflatable. This will reduce the risk of head/spinal injuries from children falling off the inflatable. Ideally the pool depth will be consistent on all sides. Users may not appreciate the varying depths or become disorientated and find themselves out of their depth and in difficulties. Large constant blow inflatables should only be used in pools where the depth at the shallow end is at least (2ft 11ins). Where structures are particularly large with a fall off height, water depth of at least 1.5m (5ft) is required. Additional notes on Dual Lane Aquaruns Dual Lane Aquarun runs are designed for two users to race each other with a dividing wall. The width of a Dual Lane Aquarun is 1.7m; this is 30cm wider than a standard Airspace Aquarun so your Normal Operating Procedures must be updated from any previous single lane inflatable you may have been accustomed to. For a 15.5m Dual Lane Aquarun, six users can race down the run (3 users per side). Where there is no dividing wall, attendants should encourage each user to stay on their side of the run and avoid any fighting or boisterous play. Wet-side inflatables No inflatable play structure should have a fall off height higher than 1m (3ft 3.37ins) unless there is sufficient depth of water. The ISRM code of practice, Diving in Swimming Pools should be consulted for further information. Where the inflatable has a small slide as an exit point, the depth of water must be suitable. Where the inflatable has a slide and the water depth at the exit is less than 1.8m (5ft 11ins) the lifeguards should be vigilant to prevent users diving off the top off the slide. Where water depth is less than 1.5m (5ft) ALWAYS consult the manufacturer

9 Wet-side inflatables When In Use Maximum Numbers / Maximum Height / Weight of Users The pool s normal operating procedures should detail the maximum number of people and age ranges allowed on the structure at any one time. These, in part, will be determined by supervision levels. We do not specify a maximum height or weight for our sealed units or constant blow products. However, we do recommend the following maximum numbers at any one time. Safe Use Ensure users only access the inflatable when instructed to do so by the supervisor. Users should listen to the supervisors and obey instructions. Where the inflatable is an Aquarun type or has a slide exit, users must swim to the nearest side, leave the pool and re-join the queue Users should only be permitted to go down the slide feet first. Users should NEVER stand or attempt to stand on any sealed structure and should only kneel or sit on Wet-side inflatables Sealed Structures them. Small Structures 3 users maximum at any one time Large Structures 8-10 users maximum at any one time Single Lane Aquaruns 3 Users maximum at any one time, one at the start, one in the middle and one at the end. Dual Lane Aquaruns 6 Users maximum at any one time, 3 each side of the dividing wall. One at the start, one in the middle and one at the end. Users should not be permitted to wear shoes and should remove jewellery, watches, hard objects etc. that may cause damage or injury to the equipment or other users. If locker keys are worn care should be taken to ensure that the key is retained completely within its plastic strap. Children should not be allowed to play in a boisterous manner, which is likely to cause harm to themselves or others. Diving from the inflatable should be prevented. Swimming under the inflatable should be prevented. Users must not pull or swing on the tethering ropes, nor attempt to lift the structure Aquarun users must be instructed to jump forwards onto the Aquarun to provide forward momentum and reduce the possibility of falling backwards and striking the poolside

10 Wet-side inflatables Supervision Arrangements It is the responsibility of Pool Operators to carry out their own risk assessment. This should detail the number of staff required to safely supervise the structure(s). Consideration will need to be given to the age, height and swimming ability of the users, the depth of the water in which the structure(s) is being used, the maximum numbers permitted in the session and the maximum number on the structure at any one time and the degree to which the structure prevents a clear view of the pool bottom. For Aquaruns, consideration will also need to be given to queuing arrangements and ensuring that only permitted numbers are on the Aquarun at any one time. The staffing requirements should be detailed in the pool s normal operating procedures. Use Outdoors Structures may be used in outdoor locations provided all tethering and positioning requirements are met. Careful consideration must be given to the wind prevailing at the time of use and also the anticipated forecast. Monitor the wind constantly when in use. It is recommended that an anemometer (device for measuring wind speed) is used to monitor the wind conditions. If the wind exceeds, or is forecast to exceed 24 mph, cease operating the inflatable. Get all users off safely and as quickly as possible. In the event, or forecast or even suggestion of thunder and lightning, stop the session immediately and turn off the blower. Wet-side inflatables Sealed inflatables should be carefully checked on a regular basis when used outdoors since large changes in temperatures and direct sunlight can cause significant pressure differences within the inflatable. Airspace can position anchor points at the side of the structure or underneath for bottom tethering for use outdoors. You must specify bottom tethering at point of order if you require this

11 Wet-side inflatables Cleaning, drying, deflating and re-packing Cleaning: To help reduce any risk arising from the development of bio-films on the surface of the product which may harbour Pseudomonas organisms, the following procedures should be carried out. If the product is slimy, appears to have a scum line or appears otherwise unclean, the inflatable must be hosed down with fresh water. If the dirt/slime remains, you can clean with a dilute Chlorine solution and then follow by hosing down with fresh water. Wearing appropriate personal protective equipment is paramount. DO NOT use pool water to clean the structure. Deflating: Remove the structure from the pool. Do not pull the unit by the anchor points or put strain in any one particular place. Sealed inflatables: Unscrew the red cap and remove the bung. Constant air inflatables: Remove the hose from the unit. Open all air vents where applicable and allow all the air to escape. Depending on the type of blower it may be possible to reverse the operation to draw the remaining air out of the structure. Re-packing: The structure should be re-packed in its original bag for storage. Correct folding, rolling and packing is covered in the Airspace onsite training. Never pack away whilst still wet. Wet-side inflatables The structure must be inflated whilst the cleaning and hosing down is taking place, if the unit is deflated, water will seep through the seams (Aquaruns only) and this will cause the unit to rot from the inside. Once the cleaning has taken place, the unit must be dried. Drying: It is important that the product is dried after use. Failure to follow this instruction will cause mildew to form on the product, which causes staining and will speed up the process of delamination. Storage: Our products should be stored in a dry place. Do not store in direct sunlight as this can encourage mildew to grow. Under no circumstances should structures be stored inflated on the poolside since heat gain will cause the air to expand and put excessive pressure on the seams which could cause the structure burst. If structures are stored outdoors or in very low temperatures, they should be brought into the area where they are to be used in advance and the structure allowed to acclimatise before inflation. Cold temperatures cause the material to become brittle. Failure to allow acclimatisation to take place may result in damage to the structure. The 12 month warranty does not cover damage caused by this eventuality. Drying the structure thoroughly with dry towels before deflating will greatly extend the life of the product. The Manual Handling Assessment, undertaken prior to use, should detail how the product is to be moved and how many staff are required to carry out this task. Approximate weights of your product can be obtained from your Account Manager

12 Wet-side inflatables Inspection and Maintenance Requirements Prior to Use The product should be inspected prior to each use with particular attention being paid to the following: The condition of the anchorage points on the structure and on the pool tank. Ropes used for tethering are not worn or chaffed. There are no holes or rips in the fabric and seams. Examine the hose connection point, ensuring it is secure and without leaks. The correct blower specified for the device is being used and that the air pressure is sufficient to maintain the required firmness. The integrity of the blower including appropriate secured guards over the air inlet and outlet. The blower/inflation tube connection is in good condition and is firmly attached to the blower. Minor Repairs To repair a small puncture, make sure the area is clean and dry. Prepare a suitably sized PVC material patch from the patching kit supplied we recommend that you cut this with rounded corners to help it remain in place and so no sharp edges are present. Apply the glue supplied to the area around the puncture and to the back of the patch. Allow to become tacky. Fit the patch and apply moderate pressure, leaving to set for 12 hours. Ensure that the patch is securely fixed to the product before re-use. Take care to ensure that this activity is carried out in a well-ventilated dry area. If you require repairs, service or maintenance to the electrical blower, this must be carried out by an appropriately qualified and competent person. Wet-side inflatables The blower is positioned correctly, adequately protected or guarded and is not causing a tripping hazard. The condition of the electrical system, including the integrity of the electrical contacts, electrical cables, plugs, sockets and switches. Annual Inspection All Inflatables should be inspected annually by a qualified company. Airspace can carry out these inspections and provide inspection certificates contact us on the anniversary of the delivery of your product. The product should not be used until any defects identified have been rectified. Your product carries a warranty for 12 months. We also provide you with a repair kit which enables you to carry out minor repairs yourself on site, thus reducing downtime. Repairs can be carried out by an Airspace engineer onsite or in the factory. Additional repair kits can be purchased from Airspace. Onsite inspections are available

13 Giant Airshutes Giant Airshutes Description These user instructions are provided for our constant blow inflatable Giant Airshutes and standalone slides. The Giant Airshute is an inflatable slide developed and manufactured by Airspace following our work with the airline industry, providing safe, effective airline escape chutes for use in training sessions. We have adapted these to become fun structures that can be used to replace or better utilise 3 metre spring or fixed diving boards. They can also be used in conjunction with a custom designed stainless steel frame and platform. The standard Giant Airshute has an active sliding length of 8m (26ft), with users safely channelled between 2 larger air filled side tubes. The end of the slide flattens out so the users land gently on the water, skimming across the surface, rather than directly entering it upon descent. The Giant Airshute is designed to be fixed at a height of 3m above water level to maintain a correct angle of descent. Airspace Solutions.com Ltd cannot be held responsible for injuries howsoever caused if this requirement is not adhered to. Giant Airshutes need to be secured to a diving platform or frame with a bar. As with the constant blow Aquarun inflatables, the giant Airshutes are required to be continuously inflated with a blower located in a safe location away from poolside and connected to the product with a length of flexible hosing. Your product normally comes with a blower and a 10m (32ft 6ins) length of flexible hose. Additional lengths of flexible hose can be purchased if required. Contact Airspace for further information. Giant Airshutes can range from 65kgs 150kgs depending on the size and design. A risk assessment must be carried out onsite to determine the safest Manual Handling Procedure. A standalone slide is a simple up and down slide that is attached to the side of the pool in the same way as an Aquarun. All Airspace standalone slides have high safety tubes and an extended run out. Hazards The following are potential hazards when using Airshutes: Impact with the pool bottom as a result of insufficient depth of water at the base of the slide. Impact with another user as a result of inappropriately sized and sectioned off landing area. Using an electric blower in a wet environment. Inadequate supervision of the structure. Inappropriate behaviour. Poor water quality leading to possible contamination of the Giant Airshute with Pseudomonas organisms leading to the development of an itchy rash. Injuries caused by outdoor use in high winds or bad weather. All of these can be minimised by ensuring that the structure is suitable for the location in which it is intended to be used. Proper supervision arrangements and staff training in the safe use of the structure can assist in providing a safe and enjoyable activity for customers Giant Airshutes

15 Giant Airshutes Installation of Frame and/or Stauff Clamps Installation of Frame: Giant Airshutes can be installed on adapted 3 metre springboard stands. Generally, this involves removing the springboard and adapting the frame by installing a walkway between the existing handrails and building a suitable platform extending beyond all existing handrails. The slide anchor bar is attached using stauff clamps, as detailed below. Leading Edge Preparation: Ensure that the leading edge of the platform is covered in a smooth, non-abrasive material to prevent abrasion of the underside of the slide and anchor bar sleeve during use of the slide. NOTE: Failure to follow this important preventative maintenance guideline may result in excessive damage to your slide that is not covered by our 12 month warranty. Giant Airshutes Installation of Stauff Clamps: Prior to purchase, advice should be sought to ascertain the correct bar and clamp requirement. Airspace can provide a specification of the slide on request to aid with you sourcing the correct bar and clamp. Stauff or D Clamps are to be used on 3 metre diving platforms, adapted 3 metre springboards, wood framed platforms and for installations utilising existing viewing balconies. Two sets of stauff or D clamps and a 2m (6ft 6ins) long by 50mm (1.4ins) wide metal bar are required for installation. The operator should source these items separately. The clamps should be installed in accordance with the manufacturer s instructions. If they are to be installed in concrete this will require the use of stainless steel expansion bolts so that the female part is set just below the surface of the decking and will remain in situ even when the clamps themselves have been removed after the end of the session. Ensure a qualified engineer does the installation. The Stauff or D clamps should be positioned a minimum of 23cm (9ins) back from the leading edge of the platform and be at least a distance of 1.67m (6ft) apart. Before unpacking your product ensure that all surfaces are clean and free of sharp of abrasive objects. If the product is to be unpacked on an abrasive surface, lay a protective ground sheet over the area to prevent damage to the product. Pay particular attention to the way in which the product has been packed. You will need to repeat this process after use when packing away for storage. Your manual handling Assessment should detail how the product is to be handled. Never drag the structure across the floor. Unpacking Always move it in its storage bag, and where necessary on a trolley or other equipment, as specified in your manual handling assessment. Before inflating the product, unwrap it fully and lay it flat on the poolside

16 Giant Airshutes Inflating and Installing the Airshute Attach the air inlet hose to the aluminium outlet on the side of the Airshute and to the round outlet on the blower. Ensure that the blower is in a safe, dry place away from bathers. Slide the metal anchor bar through the sleeve provided on the Airshute. Tie approx 6m (20ft) of 19mm (1ins) rope to the both ends of the anchor bar, using a secure knot. You will use this rope to carefully lift the Airshute up to its required position. Inflate the Airshute on the poolside. When firm, lift and place it in the water, making sure that the lifting ropes are held securely by staff. Float the Airshute out into the pool until the back end of it is directly below whichever platform or frame you are utilising. The Airshute is a constant blow inflatable, with stitched side seams. Do not be alarmed if air is leaking from the seams this is quite normal and does not mean the Airshute is faulty. Pass the ends of the rope up to a minimum of 2 people on the platform and carefully lift the Airshute up into its desired position. When the inflated Airshute has been lifted up to the platform, the Anchor Bar should be placed into the bracket sections of the stauff or D Clamps. When positioned evenly between the clamps tighten firmly so they cannot be unbolted by hand. If problems are experienced refer back to the clamp manufacturers mounting instructions and check that you have followed them correctly. Positioning, Securing and Clearance from Pool Sides Airshutes must be fixed to a diving platform or stainless steel platform by a bar which runs through the sleeves in the structure. They must be positioned so that there is no possibility of users striking the poolside from any part of the structure. A clearance of 3.65 (11ft) from the edge of the poolside is recommended. There must be sufficient forward clearance at the landing area: a minimum distance of 4.57m (15ft) is recommended. Ideally the area should be separated from the remainder of the pool by a roped partition or the use of an inflatable boom, which can be purchased from Airspace, if required. Clearance from Roof Structures All Products When an inflatable with a slide is being used, care should be taken to ensure that there is adequate headroom above the inflatable. Normally there should be at least 3m (10ft) clear above the height of the slide. The correct positioning should be detailed in the pool s Normal Operating Procedures. Anchoring Pool Structure All Products To minimise the hazards associated with inadequately secured inflatables they should always be securely anchored in the appropriate location prior to the start of the session. Giant Airshutes Water Depths For Giant Airshutes and a standalone slide with an extended run off and high safety tubes a depth of 1.5m (5ft) is required

17 Giant Airshutes A small amount of water should be run down the Giant Airshute during use. Do not spray from above as this may fill the structure with water and cause significant damage. Use the anchor points provided on the inside of the slide walls at the top of the slide to position a hose. Ensure that the Giant Airshute is positioned correctly before anyone is permitted to use the structure. Landing Area When In Use A landing area of 4.57m (15ft) directly in front of the structure and 3.65m (11ft) to either side should be established. It is preferable to mark this area with an inflatable boom. Alternatively, a rope with high visibility floats should be used. Inflatable booms can be purchased from Airspace contact us for more information. Supervision Arrangements It is the responsibility of Pool Operators to carry out their own risk assessment which should detail the number of staff required to safely supervise the Giant Airshute. Consideration will need to be given in relation to queuing arrangements and supervision, supervision of the launch area and supervision of the landing area. Other considerations will include any requirements for minimum age or height of users and swimming ability. Some of these aspects may be dealt satisfactorily by the provision of appropriate signage. The pool s Normal Operating Procedures should specify the number of staff required and whether staff are also responsible simultaneously for supervising other areas of the pool. As a minimum, one suitably qualified and trained member of staff should be positioned at the point of descent or on the poolside below. They are to ensure that the splash area is free before allowing descent of the slide. All users should remain on the poolside whilst waiting their turn. Giant Airshutes Maximum Weight of Users Airspace Giant Airshutes are designed for use by people of all ages. However, the life expectancy of the product is directly related to the care taken during the set up and takedown, the intensity of the use and the weight of the users. For this reason, it is recommended, based on experience, that users should weigh less than 102kg (225lbs)

18 Giant Airshutes Safe Use Users should not be permitted to wear footwear and should remove jewellery, watches, hard objects etc. that may cause tears or injury to others. If locker keys are worn, care should be taken to ensure that the key is retained completely within its plastic strap. Only one person should use the Giant Airshute at any one time. Chains of users should not be permitted Use Outdoors The Giant Airshute may be used in outdoor locations provided all mounting, installation and operational requirements are met. Particular consideration must be given in these circumstances to the use of electrical blowers and weather conditions. Giant Airshutes at any time. 19 Giant Airshutes Cleaning, Drying, Deflating and Re-packing Cleaning To help reduce any risk arising from the development of bio-films on the surface of the product which may harbour Pseudomonas organisms, the following procedures should be carried out. If the product is slimy, appears to have a scum line or appears otherwise unclean, the inflatable must be hosed down with fresh water. If the dirt/slime remains, you can clean with a dilute Chlorine solution and then follow by hosing down with fresh water. Deflating Remove the hose from the product (constant blown inflatable). Open all air vents where applicable and allow all the air to escape. Depending on the type of blower it may be possible to reverse the operation to draw the remaining air out of the structure. Re-packing: The structure should be re-packed in its original bag for storage. Correct folding and packing is covered in the Airspace onsite training. Never pack away whilst still wet. Giant Airshutes DO NOT use pool water to clean the structure. The structure must be inflated whilst the cleaning and hosing down is taking place, if the unit is deflated water will seep through the seams and this will cause the unit to rot from the inside. Once the cleaning has taken place the unit must be dried. Wearing appropriate personal protective equipment is paramount. Storage Our products should be stored in a dry place. The Manual Handling Assessment, undertaken prior to use, should detail how the product is to be moved and how many staff are required to carry out this task. Drying It is important that the product is dried after use. Failure to follow this instruction will cause mildew to form on the product, cause staining and will speed up the process of delamination. The 12 month warranty does not cover this damage caused by this eventuality. Drying the structure thoroughly with dry towels before deflating will greatly extend the life of the product

20 Giant Airshutes Inspection and Maintenance Requirements Prior to use The product should be inspected prior to each use, with particular attention being paid to the following: The condition of the anchorage points on the structure. Ropes used for tethering are not worn or chaffed. There are no holes or rips in the fabric and seams, also examine the hose connection point. The correct blower specified for the devise is being used and that the air pressure is sufficient to maintain the required firmness. The integrity of the blower including appropriate secured guards over the air inlet and outlet. Minor Repairs To repair a small puncture, make sure the area is clean and dry. Prepare a suitably sized PVC material patch from the patching kit supplied we recommend that you cut this with rounded corners to help it remain in place and so that no sharp edges are present. Apply the glue supplied to the area around the puncture and to the back of the patch. Allow to become tacky. Fit the patch and apply moderate pressure, leaving to set for 12 hours. Ensure that the patch is securely fixed to the product before re-use. Take care to ensure that this activity is carried out in a well-ventilated dry area. If you require repairs, service or maintenance to the electrical blower, this must be carried out by a trained, appropriately qualified and competent person. Giant Airshutes The blower/inflation tube connection is in good condition and is firmly attached to the blower. The blower is positioned correctly, adequately protected or guarded and is not causing a tripping hazard. The condition of the electrical system, including the integrity of the electrical contacts, electrical cables, plugs, sockets and switches. The structural integrity of the supporting structure, and stainless steel frame, should be examined periodically. The product should not be used until any defects identified have been rectified. Your product has a warranty for 12 months. We also provide you with a repair kit, which enables you to carry out minor repairs yourself on site, thus reducing down time. Repairs can be carried out by an Airspace engineer onsite or in the factory. Additional repair kits can be purchased from Airspace

21 Dry-side inflatables Description These User Instructions are provided for our land based inflatable equipment. They may be used in indoor or outdoor locations and may either be purchased off the shelf or can be designed to fit specific locations. Discuss with your account manager which option best suits your requirements. Land inflatables may be linked together to provide further exciting opportunities and may include features such as small slides and ball pools. Our structures are constant air inflatables which are required to be continuously inflated with a blower which is located in a safe location away from users, connected to the product by an inlet sleeve a minimum distance of 1.2m to the blower cone. Air can and does constantly escape through the stitched seams of the inflatable. Do not be alarmed, this is normal. If you are in doubt about how your inflatable should be used please do not hesitate to contact Airspace at any time and we will be happy to assist. Hazards The following are potentially hazardous occurrences: Injuries caused by impact with floor or wall surfaces Injury caused by impact with a tethering device. Injury caused by contact with an electrical blower. Injuries caused by inadequate supervision of the structure. Injuries caused by inappropriate or boisterous user behaviour particularly in relation to use by incompatible age groups. Injuries caused by overcrowding within the structure. Poor cleanliness and hygiene standards leading to contamination of the structure and illness for those in contact with the structure. Injuries caused by outdoor use in inappropriate conditions, particularly during periods of high winds, adverse weather or through dangerous location of structures. Injuries caused by failure of the structure as a result of storage and/or use in very low temperatures Dry-side inflatables Our products are manufactured to the highest standards and designed to provide years of enjoyment. (less than 4 C). All our products, where applicable, are designed to conform to EN 14960: All these can be minimised by purchasing the correct product for the location in which it is intended to be used and by implementing proper setup and supervision arrangements by appropriately trained staff. However, in line with all other fun activities, there are risks associated with their use. These instructions for use are designed to indicate the possible hazards of our products and inform you, the operator, of measures that you need to take to reduce the risks for your customers

22 Dry-side inflatables Prior to Use A risk assessment must be carried out by the operator to determine the risk arising from the activity and must include any measures necessary to reduce risk. A manual handling assessment must also be carried out to determine the risks arising from the handling of the product. Some of our products are large and bulky and the assessment must determine how may staff are required and what equipment, if any, is needed to safely move the equipment from its storage locations to its place of use. Electrical safety is of paramount importance. The centre s electrical installation and its protective systems must be verified for adequacy and compliance with the regulations. Fixed electrical installations should be inspected and tested at least annually and more frequently for equipment subject to more arduous conditions e.g. high humidity. Unpacking and Inflating Before unpacking your product ensure that all surfaces are clean and free of sharp or abrasive objects. If the product is to be unpacked on an abrasive surface, lay a protective ground sheet over the areas to prevent damage to the product. Only use the structure on a level surface. Pay particular attention to the way in which the product has been packed. You will need to repeat the process after use when packing away for storage. Your manual handling assessment should detail how the product is to be handled. Never drag the structure across the floor. Dry-side inflatables Written operating procedures, including normal operating procedures and emergency actions plans must be devised. Always move it in its storage bag, and where necessary on a trolley or other equipment, as specified in your manual handling assessment. These user instructions are not designed to replace or provide a written operating procedure, but they will help to guide you through some of the factors that you need to consider in developing your own procedures. Training in the safe handling and proper use of our product must be undertaken prior to its use. Before inflating the product, unwrap it fully and lay it flat on the floor. Please do not force open zips. In the event of a zip getting stuck, please deflate the castle and then gently release the zip before re-inflating

23 Dry-side inflatables Safe use of Electrical Blower The following precautions should be taken, as a minimum, to ensure safe use of the electrical blower: The blower must be connected to a supply voltage corresponding to the electrical rating of the blower as indicated. Unplug blower before moving or when it is not in use for extended periods of time. Residential current circuit breakers (RCCBs) should be tested daily by operating the test button, or if used less than once a day, tested every time they are used. Do not operate with a damaged supply cord or plug, after it malfunctions, or after it has been damaged Inflating a Constant Blow Structure Bouncers, slides, some domes, activity centres and custom land inflatables are constant blow devices which mean they are always at the correct operating pressure and cannot be over-inflated. The blowers for these products are freestanding devices and should be used in accordance with the relevant requirements (UK: Electricity at Work Regulations 1989). The blower is attached to the structure by an inlet sleeve. The sleeve must be a minimum distance of 1.2m to the blower cone, which must not be shortened under any circumstances. Dry-side inflatables in any way. Do not overload electrical outlets beyond their capacity as this can result in fire or electrical shock. Do not alter the attachment plug. The plug is configured for the appropriate electrical supply. The blower should be positioned so that the inlet pipe is straight once inflated. Ensure the sleeve is not twisted, as air will not flow through properly. Never put objects into the ventilation holes on the blower unit. Do not spill liquid of any kind on the blower. Use only the blower supplied with your inflatable. Blowers must be situated a minimum of 2m away from the basin area Electrical cables must be safely routed out of the way and taped down if necessary Any electrical device supplied as part of your order should under no circumstances be used near water. Operators should carry out their own on site risk assessment and produce guidelines on safe use of electrical equipment

24 Dry-side inflatables Positioning and Securing: Use Indoors and Outdoors Positioning The inflatable shall be well away from possible hazards such as overhead power lines or other obstacles with hazardous projections (eg. Fences and/ or trees). All structures should be used on a flat, level surface. The inflatable should not be erected on a site with more than 5% slope in any direction. Make sure the site is cleared of any debris and/or sharp objects either on or embedded in the surface. A clear area, free of any obstacles that could cause injury, shall be maintained around the inflatable. The minimum clear area is 1.8m from any walled side of the inflatable and at least 3.5m from open sides of the inflatable. Also, make sure this clear area is also free of any obstruction that may hinder the visibility of any supervisors. Use Indoors Securing The structure must be secured adequately, particularly if there is any danger of the structure moving as a result of being used on a highly polished or slippery surface. Sand bags can be purchased if required. Contact Airspace for more help. Use Outdoors Securing If the structure is to be used on an abrasive surface e.g. concrete or tarmac, or on a dirty area e.g. one covered by oil or grease, then a ground sheet should be used to prevent damage to the underside of the structure. The 12 month warranty does not include damage caused in this manner. Particular attention must be paid to the means of anchoring a structure when used outdoors. Dry-side inflatables Ensure that users cannot come in to contact with the blower or any other electrical component or tethering device. Where the structure is being used in outdoor locations and is likely to prove a significant attraction, a crowd control barrier must be erected as least 3.5m (11ft) from the front. The barrier should be at least 1m (3ft 3ins) high and capable of withstanding people leaning or being pushed on it. If the public do not have access to the rear and sides of the unit then a more limited crowd control barrier can be provided at the front only, so that the structure can be properly supervised and users have safe access and egress. Any gate in this barrier shall be at least 1.0m wide. The correct positioning of any barrier should be detailed in the centre s normal operating procedures. It should be secured thoroughly to the ground by use of anchor stakes secured into the ground, where the surface is suitable. Your inflatable has been designed with safety in mind. Use ALL the anchor points fitted to your inflatable and secure with stakes. Drive the stakes in to the ground so that no more than 2.5cm or 1 inch is protruding from the ground. When this is not the case then other means of securing the inflatable should be considered e.g. sand bags or other ballast

25 Dry-side inflatables Your unit had been designed and manufactured to comply and, in many cases, exceed the standard BS EN 14960:2013. Do Not Operate In High Winds. If the wind speed is, or is forecast to be, 24mph (38kph, Beaufort 5) or over, on the day you are operating DO NOT use your inflatable. We strongly recommend that you consult a recognised and reliable weather forecasting service before intending to set up your inflatable and throughout the day. A small, hand held anemometer (devise for measuring wind speed) is a useful device to carry with you on all occasions. Use And Secure All Anchor Points. Use The Stakes Provided. Around the perimeter of your inflatable are anchor points and you have been supplied with steel anchor stakes. ALL of these MUST be used at all times. Check the suitability of the ground. If it is too soft or unstable, or the ground is unlevel be more than 5 degrees in any direction, site your inflatables elsewhere. Use of your inflatable Check Before Use: Before users are permitted to use the structure the following checks should be performed: The integrity of anchorage points. Blower and inlet pipes. Sufficient pressure within the structure. Investigate any reason for an area that is not correctly inflating. No visible hazards (eg. damage or tears to the structure or seams which may prove to be an entrapment hazard or impede correct inflation). Dry-side inflatables Secure your device to the ground by driving the stakes through the D rings of the anchor points. The stake must lean away from the inflatable. Leave no more than 25mm/1 inch of the top of the anchor stake exposed. All components of the anchor system MUST bear a force of 165kg as an absolute minimum, without straining, moving or breaking. This includes anchor stakes, D rings, ropes, ballast ANY element used to anchor or tether the inflatable. Maximum Number of Users The centre s Normal Operating Procedures should detail the maximum number of people and age ranges allowed on the structure at any one time, which in part will be determined by supervision levels. It is good practice to provide specific sessions for set age groups. It is inadvisable to have sessions where the ages and/or sizes of the children differ greatly. Use Only The Fan(S) Supplied With Your Unit. Please only use the fans(s) we have supplied with your unit. If you use a different fan, you do so at your own risk; this is not recommended. On inflatables that are PIPA registered, Airspace will provide number of users and height of users. These details will be found on the label on the front of your structure. Airspace can also provide guidance on other non-pipa equipment. Please call us for this information

26 Dry-side inflatables Rules of play Users should not be permitted to wear shoes on the structures, but they must wear socks. This is particularly important to avoid the possibility of friction burns, particularly where the structure features a slide. Users should remove jewellery, spectacles, sunglasses, watches, hard objects and other metallic objects that may cause tears or injury to themselves or another user. If locker keys are worn care should be taken to ensure that the key is retained completely within its plastic strap. Children should not be allowed to play in a boisterous manner that is likely to cause harm to themselves Cleaning and drying: Supervision Arrangements The risk assessment should detail the number of staff required to safely supervise the structure(s). Consideration will need to be given to the age of users, the maximum numbers permitted in the session and on the structure at any one time. The staff requirements should be detailed in the centres Normal Operating Procedures. Cleaning, Drying, Deflating and Re-Packing Dry-side inflatables or others. Users must not pull or swing on the tethering ropes, nor attempt to lift the structure in an attempt to dislodge others. It is essential that the highest standards of hygiene be maintained on all structures used by young children. The structure should be vacuumed to remove dust after use and cleaned with an anti-bacterial solution. It should then be allowed to dry. Users must not climb or hang on the outside walls of the structure or boom. Users must not be allowed to bounce on the front step of the structure, to enable safe and clear access and egress for the other users. Adults must not use the structure, unless it has been designed and manufactured expressly for this purpose. Safety mats should be positioned at the front of the structure, 3cm minimum in thickness. Place the mats around the safety step or egress, to a distance of 1.2m around any open side of the inflatable. An Anti-Static silicone based polish can also be applied to maintain the slippery surface on slides, but should NOT be applied to areas where sure footedness is required (e.g. at the entrance step). For structures including ball ponds, particular care is necessary. Immediate cleaning is required after urinations, defecation, and vomiting or blood spillage. In these circumstances the area should be cleared immediately and the balls and structure immersed in a strong disinfectant solution. Any damaged balls should be discarded. The balls should be allowed to dry. It is important that the product is allowed to dry after use

27 Dry-side inflatables Deflating: Ensure the inflatable and surrounding area is free of anyone not involved in the deflation and packing procedure. Turn off the blower. Remove the blower from the product, by undoing the strap that secures the inlet tube to the blower cone. Undo all the deflation zips, generally located in the back and/or sides of the inflatable and allow all the air to escape. Re-Packing: The structure should be re-packed in its original bag for storage. Storage: Once deflated and packed, your inflatable should be stored in a dry place. If structures are stored externally or in low temperatures, they should be brought into the area where they are to be used in advance and the structure allowed to acclimatise before inflation. Cold temperatures cause the material to become brittle. Structures should not be stored in less than 4 C. Failure to allow acclimatisation to take place will result in damage to the structure. The Manual Handling Assessment, undertaken prior to use, should detail how the product is to be moved and how many staff are required to carry out this task. Inspection and Maintenance Requirements Prior to Use The product should be inspected prior to each use. Check all of the following: The condition of the anchorage points on the structure. Ropes used for tethering are fastened securely and are not worn or chaffed. Check the structure for wear and rips in the fabric, particularly on the main bouncing surfaces, between the walls and towers and walls and bouncing areas. Check the fabric around the blower connection point. Check the correct blower specified for the device is being used and that the air pressure is sufficient to maintain the required firmness to give reliable and firm footing. Investigate any areas that appear to be not inflating correctly. The integrity of the blower including appropriate secured guards over the air inlet and outlet. The blower/inflation tube connection is in good condition and is firmly attached to the blower. The blower is positioned correctly, adequately protected and guarded and is not causing a tripping hazard. The condition of the electrical system, including the integrity of the electrical contacts, electrical cables, plugs, sockets and switches. The product should not be used until any defects identified have been rectified. The unit comes with a 12 month warranty but we also provide repair kits which enable you to carry out minor repairs on site, thus reducing down time. Dry-side inflatables

29 Atlantis inflatables Atlantis range operation instructions These instructions are provided specifically for the Atlantis range of pool inflatables provided by Airspace Solutions. Description The Atlantis range is a set of individual sealed obstacle beds that join together to make challenging obstacle courses in various shapes. They are interchangeable making several layouts from the same sections. These products are sealed and require inflation by a hand held fan that is supplied by Airspace Solutions with the product. All products on our Atlantis range from Airspace Solutions have been manufactured in line with EN The blower must be connected to a supply voltage corresponding to the electrical rating of the blower as indicated. 30 Atlantis inflatables Inflating Atlantis Range Each section must be rolled out and the fan supplied attached to the grey inlet. The grey screw top must be turned to remove, leaving it attached by the string. The inlet screw is then visible, this can be pushed in and turned to open the valve. The operator can then attach the pipe to the end of the fan marked Inflate and then twist in the opposite end of the pipe to the grey valve on the inflatable. Once this is securely in place the fan can be turned on to inflate. It may be necessary to hold the pipe in place for inflation. You will have been supplied with a manometer for measuring the pressure in each section. Insert this in to the inflation valve, in a similar manner to the inflation pump, in order to measure the pressure. The correct pressure is displayed on the safety label of each unit. If this information has worn off or is hard to read refer to the table below or contact Airspace Solutions. Positioning, Securing and clearance from poolside Current UK guidance suggests a minimum of 2m clearance from hard surfaces for all sealed inflatables. These particular units are used more in the style of a constant flow Aquarun inflatable and therefore Airspace would suggest, where possible, operators try to increase this distance to 2.5m in line with current Aquarun guidance. The operation and risk assessment is the responsibility of the operator/site management and the decision will ultimately be theirs. In consideration of this, other safety measures like Buoyancy jackets, type of users and pool design will be factors. 25m 2.5m clearance area Atlantis inflatables Be aware that changes in temperature, conditions and environment can greatly affect the pressure in an inflated section. Pressures that are measured as being within the tolerances (0.6 psi to 0.9psi) in cold conditions can increase significantly in warmer conditions. Regularly check the pressures and inflate/ deflate accordingly, and allow for the anticipated or forecast conditions. As a precaution, always inflate to the lower pressure tolerance. For example, the pressure in a unit inflated in the colder morning air will greatly increase as the ambient temperature increases later in the day, or if the inflated section is left in direct sunlight. 31 Atlantis inflatables Joining and Anchoring Atlantis Range To minimise the hazards all products must always be securely anchored. There are 8 steel D rings on each section in the Atlantis range. On each end there are 2 D rings on the side that are used for joining the sections with the bungee tension strap provided. There is a steel carabiner clip that easily clips through each D ring. Once this is secure the large Velcro strap can be positioned in place to hold the sections together. Care must be taken to make sure the Velcro is covered by the strap and that the ends are pushed down with the rounded soft edge facing down. Depending on the size of the total set up some staff may be required to get into the pool to join the final sections. As a rule, Airspace Solutions trainers and designers will try to avoid this and make sure that units can be set up from poolside without the need for pool entry. Bungee straps will be provided with each section. Depending on the pool design extra rope may need to be attached to D rings to secure to the pool side. In some pools or when using in outdoor bodies of water, weights may need to be used to anchor sections down. These can be provided with changeable straps to adjust to depths where required. Advice will be given on anchoring during consultation. Operator must seek advice from Airspace if there are issues with tethering. Please make sure all ropes used for tethering are visible and not tensioned too tightly. Maximum Numbers/Weight and Height of User There is no upper or lower age or height limit of user for the Atlantis range. Anybody can use the products as long as operation is managed in a safe manner. Rough horseplay is advised against and additional buoyancy maybe required for non-competent swimmers. User numbers need to be determined by the style of session and shape of the set up. For straight set ups Airspace Solutions would advise operation be the same as an Aquarun session where a flow of users be monitored. This typically has users queuing for their turn to run across the obstacles. The numbers in the session typically fluctuate between 40 to 90 people. For more complicated set ups the session may be run as a set number that play on the set up at one time. This can be controlled by groups of users being allowed onto the unit then making their way around the various obstacle sections. The maximum number should be taken from pool bather loads and lifeguarding provisions. Access on to all the set ups must be monitored and controlled and safe exit must also be monitored. Water Depth Current UK guidance suggests a depth of for sealed inflatables and for the non-slide end of Aquaruns. Where the structures are particularly large, i.e. slides or high obstacles, a depth of 1.5m is required. Airspace Solutions suggest operators apply this guidance to the Atlantis range and seek advice from Airspace Solutions when considering which sites to use the Atlantis product at. Each section has a suggested water depth for usage on an information patch located on each module and is also listed in the chart on page 65. Buoyancy jackets are advised for some Atlantis set ups and advice will be given following site visits. Lifeguarding must be considered during site risk assessment. Users must listen to instructions from supervisors at all times. Do not swim underneath the unit. Users should not be permitted to wear shoes and should remove jewellery, watches, hard objects, etc. that may cause damage or injury. 33 Atlantis inflatables Use outdoors The Atlantis range can be used outdoors. Operators must pay special attention to tethering, water depths and wind speed. Do Not Operate In High Winds. If the wind speed is, or is forecast to be, 24mph (38kph, Beaufort 5) or over, on the day you are operating DO NOT use your inflatable. We strongly recommend that you consult a recognised and reliable weather forecasting service before intending to set up your inflatable and throughout the day. A small, hand held anemometer (devise for measuring wind speed) is useful to carry with you on all occasions. An anemometer should be used for correct readings. Visible tether points should be used so users can see guide ropes when using the equipment. If weighting to the floor make sure that the weights are properly grounded and not on other objects not seen under the water. Carefully measuring of depths should be carried out prior to use and tidal changes should be considered when using in the sea. Further safety measures for buoyancy should be implemented if prior risk assessment proves it necessary. Cleaning, Drying, Deflating and Re-packing Cleaning: When the unit is removed from the water a fresh water hose down is suggested to remove the pool water and residue from users. If they sections can be tipped to allow this water to run off or dried with towels after use this will add to the clean storage. At points during the year it will be advisable to carry out a clean with a soft brush and solution of weak disinfectant. Third party cleaning chemicals are available and discussion with Airspace Solutions for more information is welcome. Leaving the sections wet in storage will result in staining and should be avoided. Deflating: Once safely out of the water the grey cap can be screwed off and the internal pressure screw can be pushed in and turned to hold the valve open to release air. The sections will go down a certain amount by just doing this but to properly pack the units the fan must be used. At the opposite end of the fan is the connection mark deflate. The pipe should be attached to this side of the fan and attached safely to the inlet on the section as instructed when inflating. Once this is secure the fan can be turned on and will suck out the air. Once the unit is completely deflated the fan can be turned off and the unit folded and rolled away. The strap that goes around the unit should be used to keep it together and each section will go back into its own bag. Atlantis inflatables The bags can be stored on top of each other in storage. The weight of each bag will be between 25 80kg. We suggest the heaviest be stored at the base
