5 Welcome to IHC Hytech IHC Hytech is involved in the design and manufacture of all the necessary equipment a commercial or military diver could possibly require, and more. Based in Raamsdonksveer, The Netherlands, the company specialises in building, maintaining and developing new items of diving equipment. The North Sea is emerging as one of the world s largest oil fields, but it guards its treasures well. Diving conditions are among the worst encountered in professional diving. IHC Hytech is becoming increasingly renowned for its extensive range of high-quality equipment to those involved in this industry. IHC Hytech is formed by a group of people, who have a wealth of experience in every area of commercial diving and are presenting a new perspective on many aspects in this field. The fact that the Dutch and Belgian navies have equipped their multimillion-euro mine sweepers with custom-made, non-magnetic IHC Hytech decompression units, for example, is testimony to the high quality of the equipment. Dutch salvage companies and diving contractors also use IHC Hytech hardware. These high standards are not only applied to navy equipment, however every product that IHC Hytech makes or sells is supported by an extensive quality control and aftersales service. 6 DART and ATEL: small dimensions, big achievements DART stands for Diver Attendant Recompression Transportable and it is a new type of transportable decompression chamber, which is large enough to accommodate two people (one patient and one attendant). Due to its special shape and size, the DART is spacious enough to allow for extended transportation or treatment times if necessary. Compact and lightweight, the DART is ideal for transferring divers under pressure to a hyperbaric medical facility. The DART is fitted with a rotating STANAG male flange, which allows it to be connected to a large number of hyperbaric facilities. It is also possible to use adaption flanges to connect the DART to hyperbaric facilities using other connection flanges. The DART transportable decompression chamber can be installed in an ISO norm container. This is, in fact, an additional chamber compartment, which can be used in combination with the DART. The ATEL is provided with a special STANAG female flange, which makes it possible to link the ATEL with the DART, giving a two-compartment chamber. 8 Decompression chambers in all kind of materials and configurations The decompression chambers built by IHC Hytech are generally considered to be market leading and are suitable for any application. It has a wealth of experience in developing equipment, which is not designed on the drawing board, but in the field. IHC Hytech decompression chambers are the result of divers working together, mixing seasoned experience with fresh perspectives. The company believes that decompression chambers should be instantly simple to operate, to avoid possible errors or losing precious time. The decompression chambers are manufactured in all kinds of materials and configurations: aluminium, steel, two- or ten-person transportable. It has standard tanks, but is by no means limited to one model. All decompression chambers are custom-made, according to customer specifications, to fit their applications precisely. Safety and reliability are important features of each chamber built by IHC Hytech. It is able to build decompression chambers according to any standard: Lloyd s Register of Shipping, British Standard, IMCA, DNV, etc. A standard decompression chamber comes with two compartments, the main chamber and an airlock. The chamber is skid-mounted and has large lifting lugs for increased mobility. The tank will go wherever the diving action is. Both the inside and outside of the chambers are covered with a special coating. Working pressure is usually 5.5 bar (80psi), but chambers up to 35 bar (515psi) can also be provided. For integration in existing systems, the chambers can be supplied with connection flanges to fit any bell or auxiliary chamber. The skid can be used to integrate the oxygen and air cylinders required to provide a maximum operational independence. The pressure hull has a number of spare penetrators that allow additional systems to be installed. A large size medical lock is a standard feature. View ports with a diameter of 150mm allow observation of both compartments. 8 Diving equipment Decompression chamber

9 Containerised DDC The example shows a 20ft ISO norm container in which the 1,600mm double-lock decompression chamber is installed. In order to bring the transportable two-person decompression chamber DART in position for the stationary decompression chamber installed in the 20ft container to make a transfer under pressure with the NATO STANAG bayonet type of flange, the container is equipped with an integrated lifting system, which is hydraulically operated by hand. 12 Wet-bell, designed for offshore conditions The IHC Hytech WBHS is an open wet bell handling system that allows three divers to work at a depth of up to 100 m. The system consists of an open wet bell with an internal diameter of 1,500 mm (approximately 5 ft), an A-frame with sheaves, a top frame with hydraulic winches to hoist the bell and its clump weight, and a Dive Control Container (DCC). A dive control panel, and the controls for communication, illumination and camera systems are inside the DCC. The system can be completed with a containerised decompression chamber (20 ft container), and various diving materials such as hot water suits, a hot water supply unit, diving suits, diving helmets and various underwater tools. 12 Diving equipment Wet-bell

Cygnus DIVE is a wrist-mounted underwater thickness gauge designed for the professional diver and is accurate, reliable and easy to use. Worn on the diver s forearm, it gives an invaluable free hand whilst performing thickness surveys.

17 KMDSI diving helmets The SuperLite 27 The SuperLite 27 is the result of years of research and testing. The design gives the working diver a reliable and extremely comfortable helmet. The SuperFlow 350 regulator used on the SuperLite 27 provides outstanding performance. It features a diver-adjustable system so that the regulator can be tuned during the dive according to the workload. This adjustment also allows the diver to set the regulator as the supply pressure varies, which is especially important when working with a low-pressure compressor. The diver is also provided with an internally adjustable chin support. This, along with the adjustable neck pad on the locking collar, gives the diver a comfortable, secure, custom fit. The Kirby Morgan 37 The Kirby Morgan 37 is similar to the SuperLite 27 but has a larger shell. It also includes the Quad-Valve Exhaust System. The Kirby Morgan 37 diving helmet continues with the manufacturer s long tradition of providing the highest quality and superior performance. The Quad-Valve exhaust system has less breathing resistance than the older single-valve exhaust and provides an extremely dry hat. This system is recommended for diving in biologically contaminated water. The SuperFlow 350 regulator is a proven design that provides excellent breathing characteristics over a wide range of depths. The Kirby Morgan 37 is one of the most popular in the world. A rugged diving helmet with a traditional design, it is considered the standard of the commercial diving industry. Kirby Morgan 37SS For divers requiring a metal helmet with the sleek style of the 37, the new stainless-steel Kirby Morgan 37SS helmet is ideal. It features a stainless-steel shell, as well as a stainless-steel sideblock, helmet ring, bent tube, handle and other key components. No refinishing is required if the surface gets scratched or gouged. The SuperFlow 350 is standard on this helmet. The Kirby Morgan 37SS features a quick change communications module, available with either bare wire posts or a waterproof connector. 18 Portable three-diver, two-diver and one-diver panels The HT is a surface-supplied diving system designed to simultaneously support three divers working at a depth of 70msw (optional 100msw) on all manner of underwater tasks, including conducting surveys, maintenance, defect rectification, cutting and welding. The complete system is mounted inside a rugged plastic container. 21 IHC Hytech aims to manufacture high-quality hyperbaric oxygen chambers (HBO) that provide maximum comfort to patients and operators. They are manufactured to customer specifications diameters vary from 1,700 to 3,000 mm and the length can be adapted to suit the number of patients and/or the size of the building. IHC Hytech HBO chambers fulfill the requirements of annex IV of the Council Directive 93/42/EEC, concerning medical devices. They can either be equipped with rectangular entrance doors or with a full-sized circular door equal to the diameter of the main chamber. The full-sized door allows for easy access for intensive care patients on full-sized hospital beds. It is provided with a safety interlock system that prevents the opening of the door while the chamber is pressurised. The luxury seats for patients are easily removed from the chamber in order to allow for the use of full-sized hospital beds. The interior and exterior colours of the chamber can be chosen by the customer. Hospital beds, wheelchairs and medical stretchers can be raised and lowered safely and easily. Each patient is provided with the following equipment: individual seat with foldable armrests and integrated headrest optional footrest for maximum comfort attendant alert system entertainment system consisting of: headset with audio connection; video channel connection; volume controls; channel selection switch for the audio system; individual light output control. 22 Specifications The chambers are equipped with: fire suppression system (sprinkler) portable fire extinguishers chamber acclimatisation unit (for cooling, heating and dehumidification). The following equipment is optional: patient critical-care monitoring equipment video screens for patient entertainment hyperbaric toilet/wash basin with hot and cold water. IHC Hytech HBO chambers are provided with a sophisticated oxygen breathing system, allowing the patients to breath comfortably, with a low inhalation and exhalation resistance (3.0 mbar). The oxygen (therapeutic gas) is supplied to patients by means of an oral nasal mask or an oxygen free-flow hood system, whereby the flow to each patient can be adjusted separately. The connections of the oxygen, entertainment and patient-monitoring systems are installed in the overhead panel. The HBO chamber is provided inside the main chamber with a patient vacuum suction system and storage container. Connection points are also available for the supply of oxygen and/or air to medical equipment such as patient ventilators. The chamber is also equipped with an emergency powered communication system. IHC Hytech HBO chambers are provided with the latest in chamber computer-control technology. The control system is integrated in an ergonomically designed control stand. IHC Hytech uses a reliable industrial PLC for the computer steering systems of both chamber compartments. A selection of pre-programmed therapy profiles are included in the software and the operator can also make up or enter other suitable profiles. The PLC controls the pneumatic valves that control pressurisation and de-pressurisation of the chamber but it is always possible (at any time) to override the computer and take over manual control of the system. The computer and monitor installed in the control panel operate as a feedback system for the PLC and display the following parameters: actual pressure against time lapsed time/pressure and time/pressure to go pressure increase/decrease of both compartments/ speed of pressurisation chamber pressures in both compartments (MSW/bar) temperature relative humidity oxygen percentage as well as partial pressure. It is always possible to change the pressure or time profile during a treatment session as well as entering relevant comments and patient data for future use. Hyperbaric oxygen treatment chamber 23

24 Life-support equipment, built to your specifications As well as serving the diving industry, IHC Hytech also designs and manufactures breathing protection and life-support equipment used in hazardous environments, such as inert atmospheres. IHC Hytech has years of experience in building life-support units. Most of those systems are built into containers, trucks, vans or trailers. The container has two compartments: a control room where the operator sits behind the control panel, and a room where the reels, air bottles and connections are placed. The reel room can be reached through normal double container doors. In the side wall of the container is a door to the control room. The unit s air supply consists of a double high-pressure bank. The main and back-up supplies are independent systems, all the way from the bottles to the breathing masks. IHC Hytech has built this type of system for many different costumers according to their specifications. It usually has four to eight mask supply lines. Some units have a low-pressure compressor for the main air supply, complete with analysers to monitor the air quality at the compressor air inlet. It is also possible to produce a completely independent unit, with a generator set to power it. IHC Hytech offers a variety of products for life-support applications, such as communication systems, escape bottle sets, umbilicals, etc. It also builds portable life-support systems, built into two rigid boxes. These systems provide breathing air for two or three people. In addition to building new systems, the company performs annual maintenance and certification for the units it has manufactured if required by customers. 24 Life-support equipment

27 For more than two decades, IHC Hytech has been actively involved in the design and manufacture of certified decompression/hyperbaric chambers systems, which are installed in tunnel boring machines (TBMs). Not only does IHC Hytech specialise in delivering, for example, man lock chambers (for transfer under pressure), which are integrated in the pressure shield of TBMs, but it is also capable of supplying: complete turnkey packages with man transfer shuttles; decompression chambers; medical chambers; and hyperbaric living habitats, including all auxiliary equipment. In addition to this, IHC Hytech provides lifecyclesupport for all the systems it supplies. MTS and SDC The MTS (Main Transfer Shutt le) is used for the transport from the TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine) to the SDC (Special Decompression Chamber). A SDC can consists of a two compartment decompression chamber with a control panel in a separate container (Control room). System integration and packaging The control panels, decompression chambers, compressors, cooling systems and all other components needed to operate the system are built, if required, into containers to facilitate easier transportation to the tunnelling site, effortless on-site handling, better protection of materials/equipment and comprehensive organisation of the remote control for all hyperbaric intervention activities. The interconnections will be delivered and, if requested, installed by IHC Hytech experts. The integration of all components can also be facilitated by IHC Hytech s engineers at all times. Certification and regulations With regard to various national regulations and customer specifications, all IHC Hytech equipment is built in compliance with the requirements of renowned internati onal certification authorities, such as LR, DNVGL, ASME, TÜV. Surveyor inspections during essential stages of the design and manufacturing process are a normal procedure for IHC Hytech tunnelling projects. Tunnelling chambers and shuttles Tunnelling 27

28 Project Las Vegas A single-lock transfer and evacuation chamber/shuttle for working divers is to be used in combination with the tunnelboring machines for the Lake Mead water intake project near Las Vegas. The Lake Mead project near Las Vegas A tunnel-boring machine (TBM) that takes technology to a new level of capability and operation is needed to build the new water intake tunnel into the base of Lake Mead the vast reservoir created by the Hoover Dam on the Colorado River near Las Vegas, Nevada. The logistics of the project demand that the TBM be a hard-rock machine that is able to convert rapidly from an open-faced system to a closed pressurised system capable of withstanding potential hydrostatic pressures up to 17 bar maximum. The tunnelling system is fully prepared for hyperbaric face man-entry. A standby decompression chamber equipped with an oxygen decompression system is permanently located behind the ring build area. This chamber can be connected by an access tube to the rear shield bulkhead, providing access to the drill chamber behind the front shield bulkhead. The size of the decompression chamber is large enough to allow for extended decompression times and to perform the complete decompression process. In addition, the system is prepared for the use of mixed gas breathing systems for higher chamber pressures. The breathing gas mixtures can be Trimix or Heliox. For extended chamber time under high pressure, the tunnelling system is prepared for a shuttle transfer of the crew between the airlock and a hyperbaric habitat at the bottom of the access shaft. 28 Tunnelling Tunnelling chambers and shuttles

31 Together with Aberdeen based Survitec Survival Craft (Part of the Survitec Group), IHC Hytech is involved in the design and manufacturing of selfpropelled hyperbaric lifeboats (SPHL), suitable for 12, 18 and 24 persons and for depth ranges up to 400 msw. The 12, 18 and 24 persons are the standard SPHL s. As an option also SPHL s are available for 9 persons, 15 persons, with side entrance, extra supply lock etc. etc on request. Survitec Survival Craft is responsible for manufacturing and outfitting the GRP hull with a main engine, bow thruster and all necessary navigation and propulsion equipment, as well as it s Queens Awarded Safelaunch Rocloc patented LRRS system, a truly EU product. IHC Hytech builds the duplex evacuation chamber and its life-support equipment including cooling and hot water production plants, clamping systems and spool pieces. The entire unit will be SOLAS and DNV-GL Class approved. The interior of the diver evacuation chamber as integrated in the SPHL includes a hyperbaric toilet, CO 2 scrubber systems, supply lock and a service hatch at the front. Critical System Monitoring and Tracking The CSMTS Critical System Monitoring and Tracking System is a stand-alone data acquisition, recording, communications and transmission product developed by Fathom Systems (and installed by IHC Hytech) to meet and exceed the current guidelines and requirements for the safe operation of self-propelled hyperbaric lifeboats (SPHL) in the event of an evacuation from the host Dive Support Vessel (DSV). The product is a multi-unit system that is an industry wide requirement as stipulated in OGP Report 478 (7.4) and an essential element of the hyperbaric evacuation plan set out in the IMCA D052 guideline document. The modular approach for the design of the IHC Supporter class product range offers a variety of functionalities that suit an individual customer s mission requirements. Nevertheless, maximum synergy is obtained through the integration of vessel particulars, diving system and other equipment into a complete diving support solution. As a result, various diving configurations are available for the IHC Supporter class platform. Several options for diving system capacity and the possibility of integrating additional mission equipment will provide full DSV capabilities or diving support capability complementary to other primary mission profiles. The versatile IHC Supporter class platform, in conjunction with advanced modular diving equipment, offers a cost-effective offshore diving solution highly competitive in terms of capex, opex and, above all, in operational revenue. Value for money comes with the vessel s ability to earn. Innovative vessels The IHC Supporter class is a custom-configurable offshore support vessel. Its versatility, short delivery time and easy conversion match the demands from the dynamic offshore market. Advanced equipment Cutting-edge technology is readily available for condensing into the IHC Supporter class. 34 Transfer under pressure (TUP) Transfer under pressure (TUP) is an interventi on method used in nonsaturati on diving shallower than 50 msw, where the divers are transferred from their working depth to a surface decompression chamber in a closed bell maintaining pressure greater of equal to the first decompression stop. By removing in-water decompression stops, surface intervals and recompression, TUP is generally considered as a healthier, safer and more efficient alternative to traditional surface oriented air/nitrox diving techniques (in-water de-compression-stops). The IHC Hytech TUP dive system is intended to be used as an air/ mixed gas/heliox diving system for two divers, of which one is the bell man, using a closed diving bell. The TUP bell is used to deploy both divers to the working depth whilst the divers are inside the closed bell. When at depth the bell hatch can be opened and diver one can exit the bell to perform the required work. Following completion of the dive, diver one enters the TUP dive bell pressure compartment, following this the divers close the pressure compartment using the pressure tight hatch. The diving depth of the bell, the wet pod and the complete decompression chamber system are rated to 80 msw. 34 Saturation diving equipment Transfer under pressure (TUP)
