Requirement. The Adventurous Training Group (Army) (ATG(A)) constantly seeks well motivated personnel to serve as incremental staff at various locations on detached duty. There is a requirement for instructors, stores staff and other general duties staff. Adventurous Training (AT) qualifications as a pre requisite are not always essential and in some cases, full training will be provided, however previous AT qualifications or experience would be valuable. Candidates should be keen to learn AT skills, possess a positive attitude, display a willingness to succeed and be physically fit. Opportunities exist across a range of ranks from Pte up to and including Major. Young soldiers and JNCOs who wish to demonstrate their potential, whilst developing their leadership skills, will benefit greatly. Equally, individuals wishing to develop their skills and experience prior to selection for the RAPTC would find the opportunities available very useful. 2. Background. ATG(A) co-ordinates and administers the delivery of Type 2 and Type 4 AT through a number of Centres in UK, Germany and Cyprus. These AT Centres provide the opportunity for Service personnel to attend Type 4 courses or participate in Type 2 multi activity packages and selected single-activity Foundation courses. Each centre has its own Command Structure and all equipment is centrally funded by ATG(A). s are drawn predominantly from Army units to supplement each of the AT Centres and provide additional instructors, stores staff and other general duties staff. Applications from RN/RM and RAF personnel are also welcomed. 3. The activities conducted from the AT Centres vary by location but can include; mountaineering, rock climbing, kayaking, mountain-biking, sailing, skiing, caving, sub-aqua diving, parachuting and paragliding. Where applicable (Castlemartin) applicants will attend a Unit Adventurous Training Leader (UATL) course at the JSMTC whereby over a 3 month period they will gain leader/instructor qualifications in a number of AT disciplines (potentially up to 5). AT Centre locations 4. There is availability for incremental staff at all of ATG(A) s AT Centres. Specific detail on 1

Detachments may offer a variety of benefits to both the individual and their parent unit, these benefits include: Nominations a. To the individual. Enhanced confidence, the opportunity to obtain AT qualifications and improve instructional ability that will complement their normal career profile on returning to their parent unit. b. To the unit. During their detachment, these soldiers will be required to support the delivery of AT activities on a weekly basis. At the end of the detachment, the unit will receive a soldier who is more confident and self-assured and gained a number of AT qualifications. If attached in an instructor role, most notably, the individual could further develop their leader/instructor qualifications. 6. When considering individuals for nomination, units are requested to ensure that candidates are physically fit, well motivated and free from any on-going welfare or disciplinary issues. All candidates should be Medically Fully Deployable (MFD), however if they are classified as Medically Limited Deployability (MLD) an Appendix 9 should be raised stating suitability for employment in the incremental post requested. Application process 7. Those units that wish to nominate an individual for any of the positions described at Annexes A to H should complete the Unit Nomination Form provided at Annex I and return it direct to the appropriate ATG(A) AT Centre. An Appendix 9 must accompany all applications made for those who are not classified as MFD. 8.
