1 Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC) Technical Platform Recommended specialist equipment including instruments for those working with Healthcare Ventilation Systems Those working with Healthcare Ventilation Systems should have access to and use appropriate specialist equipment including instruments (and have appropriate training and knowledge to use and operate safely), the following is a list of equipment: This table is applicable to, project managers, designers, installers, commissioners, validators, operators, maintainers, verifiers, infection prevention and other with an interest in Healthcare Ventilation and is in addition to the normal engineering tools, equipment and instruments. Tachometer suitable for measuring fan and motor speeds Pitot-static tube for the measurement of velocity within ducts Bal-o-meter (or hood) Swirl air flow conditioner Stand for Bal-o-meter Rotary vane anemometer Testing correct direction and speed of rotation e.g. Fans Traversing duct work for main, branch and volumes Note suitable for measurements above 3m/s (BSRIA BG49). Measurement volumes needs to have a correction factor for each type and size of. Also, used to aid calculation of air change rates. Measurement of swirl diffusers, correction factors required With Bal-o-meter, for safe working, more accurate results. Only for use on grilles, limited accuracy, needs to have a correction factor applied

The list is recommended for use by all those commissioning, validating, verifying or operating healthcare ventilation systems, in short anyone involved in the delivery or use of healthcare ventilation systems.
