4 We have been coming to Red Mountain for over 20 years. We met friendly locals that kept inviting us back to stay, then we bought our own house, and now we ve upgraded to a magnificent condo at the base of the lifts. My husband and I travel here almost every year from the other side of the planet, it s THAT good! The area was founded by Scandinavian miners during the Gold Rush and is western Canada s oldest ski resort. With a keen sense of history and an appreciation for the preservation of the natural environment, we offer an experience that is far from the sanitized getaway many skiers now unfortunately expect from many of our larger competitors: The RED Mountain chairlift was the first in western Canada and began operating on December 16, The original base lodge was also built in RED was home to the first Canadian downhill ski championship in The first World Cup race was hosted here in 1968 and 7000 fans cheered Rosslander Nancy Greene as she won the GS.
