6 TEAM DEAN GOUGH TTRIDE TRIP LEADER YOUR TRIP LEADER WILL BE THERE TO ENSURE YOU ENJOY YOUR WEEK AND HAVE EVERYTHING THAT YOU NEED. THEY WILL BE AT THE AIRPORT ON YOUR ARRIVAL, ON-HAND DURING TRAINING AND ASSESSMENT DAYS AND ALSO COORDINATING EXTRA ACTIVITIES THROUGHOUT THE WEEK. AS WELL AS THE FORMAL STUFF, THEY LL BE OUT SURFING WITH THE GROUP, ENJOYING WHAT THIS INCREDIBLE COASTLINE HAS TO OFFER, AND SIPPING A COOL BEVERAGE WHEN THE SUN GOES DOWN. THE TEAM ARE THERE FOR YOU 24/7, SO LET THEM KNOW IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS WHATSOEVER. Dean will be your trainer and assessor throughout your week in Morocco, this includes both the ISA Surf Coaching, and the SLSGB Surf Coach safety. TO BE CONFIRMED..! 9 THE WAVES ON THE DOORSTEP PANORAMAS - Beginner / intermediate right hand point break into beautiful sandy beaches, a short stroll from your Cabana STAND OUT SURF SPOTS ANCHOR POINT - The best known wave in Morocco, top of Taghazout KILLER POINT - Large right hand pointbreak named after the local Killer whales, just North of Taghazout town BOILERS - Powerful right hand point break over a shallow reef, named after the shipwrecked boiler that still lies at the start of the wave DRACULAS - Boilers evil twin, offering a fast right hander over sharp urchin-covered reef INTERMEDIATE SURF SPOTS LA SOURCE - Mixture of beach and reef, offering a high lifting A-frame MYSTERIES - A reef and beachbreak between Killers & Taghazout HASH POINT - In the heart of Taghazout, a fast right hander popular with locals THE KMS - 11km & 12km named after their distance from the city, tubes at low tide! BANANA POINT - Mellow right hand point, by the banana plantations of Aourir BEGINNER SURF SPOTS IMSOUANE - 1 hour from Taghazout, a beach break that can break as long as 600m DEVIL S ROCK - Fun and consistent left & right beachbreaks CROCS - Named after the shape of the headland, there are various lefts and rights along a half-mile stretch TAMRI - A big exposed beach break, works on most tides 9

10 QUALIFICATIONS Combine the ISA Level 1 Surf Instructor qualification with the SLSGB Surf Coach Safety and Rescue award in order to work as a surf instructor around the world. ISA LEVEL 1 SURF INSTRUCTOR COURSE: The International Surfing Association (ISA) set the standards for training as a surf instructor, and the ISA Level 1 is the most internationally recognised qualification which will allow you to work all over the world. The course will consist of both theory and practical sessions. You will need to prove that you are at a standard of surfing that you can coach, as well as able to confidently deliver a surf lesson combining the theory, safety and practical elements. Prior to the course, ensure you're able to paddle out back, pop up consistently and able to turn right and left on green waves. Once you pass this week, you will need to gain 20 hours surf coach shadowing experience (about 10 surf lesson) at a surf school of your choice. After this you can send your paperwork to ISA to receive your full membership confirmation. You don't need to repeat the course, just pay your annual membership fee (about 70) to ISA. If you miss this deadline, you will need to requalify. SLSGB Surf Coach Safety and Rescue In order to work as a surf instructor, you must also hold a valid lifeguard award. There are a few option here. The SLSGB Surf Coach Safety and Rescue is designed for individuals wishing to work within the surf school industry. This qualification provides the skills and knowledge required to carry out rescues, first aid and CPR if the situation arose. There is no timed swim for this award but candidates must be able to run 200 meters in under 1 minute and be confident in the surf environment. The Surf Coach Safety and Rescue Award is specific to surf instructors, it won t allow you to work as a beach lifeguard. 10

11 SOL HOUSE, TAGHAZOUT ACCOMMODATION We will be staying at the incredible new 'SOL Resort', a development built for the King of Morocco, offering 4* accommodation on the shores of Taghazout. Their facilities include a newly stocked surf school with awesome range of surfboards, a gym and spa, two restaurants and their distinct 'beach bungalow' style accommodation. As well as all this, you're within easy reach of the town, and short stroll from your local beach break - Panoramas. RESTAURANTS AND FACILITIES The hotel features an all-day dining buffet, an a la carte restaurant, and an innovative snack restaurant PlayBar with an In & Out Bar in the heart of the hotel. Have a refreshing beverage and a light snack on the terraces, and enjoy the best DJ sessions and live music. You have breakfast included, as well as five pack-lunches during the course and 5 evening meals. The Moroccan cuisine is incredible, a big part of your experience in Taghazout. As well as great places to eat, there s the surf academy and shop, traditional Moroccan Hammam and Sauna, spa, swimming pool and games room. 11

13 TRAVEL INFORMATION FLIGHTS VACCINATIONS You will need to book your international flights to & from Agadir for the start and end date of the trip. Airport transfers are included for these days and organised by our Bookings Team in advance of your arrival Before you leave for Morocco, always check the latest travel advice using these official websites: Our STA travel contact, Sileshi Assefa, will help you find the best priced flight and can be contacted on or STA travel offers flexibility but it is often possible to find cheaper options on lesser known carriers that are not affiliated to STA travel. However STA do provide a high level of support when it comes to travel itineraries and are particularly useful when you're travelling to more than one country or need to change dates for any reason. Fit for Travel - The World Health Organisation TRAVEL INSURANCE You are required to take out personal travel insurance before joining the course and Riders in the past have had a good experience with World Nomads, the specialist insurance provider for adventure travel. Feel free to get a policy quote from them by visiting our insurance tab on our website ance. LOCAL CURRENCY It's best to get cash out at the airport on arrival. The exchange rate is better once inside Morocco. There's ATMs at Agadir airport for this. Once in Taghazout village, the nearest ATMs are in Agadir (30min drive) so worth getting sorting on arrival. 13

14 EQUIPMENT WHAT DO I NEED? Wetsuit and surfboard! We d recommend a 3.2 wetsuit, and you can bring whatever board you like for the course. Surf kit is not included in the course price, but can be added at an additional cost if required. ESSENTIAL KIT First aid kit Mosquito repellent High factor, water resistant suncream, Zinc and Factor 50 face cream Sun hat & glasses Water bottle Camera & chargers Get Dirhams at the airport Expect 25+ heat in the day! So shorts & t-shirts are ideal, with a couple of layers for the cooler evenings 14

15 CHECKLIST Book your flights to / from Agadir Travel Insurance Check vaccinations at your local doctor s surgery at least a month before you're due to travel Work out a budget - give yourself a limit for each day, extra activities and have emergency backup money just in case Bank and credit card companies Inform them that you are going to be in Morocco, so that they don't cancel your card while you're out there Test yourself! You need to be fit and ready to jump straight into the course. Emergency contacts - make a note of important numbers and keep it somewhere safe when you travel 15
