We took a stand at Xmas and removed the problem. A couple of weeks of pain and a few ongoing issues are apparent, however no-where near the trouble that the cellphone caused with the bullying, sarcasm, inappropriate photos, sleepless nights I could go on and on. We now have a happier, healthier teenager in our midst. Many people we have spoken to have applauded us on removing the problem and say they wish they could do the same. Guess what you can, and when you do we will all be one step closer to a better society where kids learn to talk to each other again. The problems that our teenagers face today with the bullying, self harm and suicides will not stop until we do something about the main cause of it all. Food for thought.? 3 Presidents Report Well what a weekend weather wise, most unexpected specially after the warning on Friday. I was fully expecting to head out to Waiuku forest Sunday, unfortunately an unexpected electrical problem I had in the workshop took precedent and thanks to Ash, was fixed quick smart albeit not quick enough for me to get my act together. Finally; we managed to get a round of the club champs in the record books, although the weekend was brilliantly fine the ground under was still rather damp, so much so the drag race section of some 100 metres was measured in minutes rather than seconds, some not even leaving the start box, quite funny to watch actually. Anyway, it was a little shock to see the paddock afterwards, like I said, it was damp under foot but did not think the ground would cut up as bad as it did. Dave Brown did touch base with the property owner a week or so later and he did not seem to be to bothered about it which was a relief. A great day with some new leaders on the board, topped off with a BBQ afterwards. Thanks to the members who helped out during the NZ4WDA conference weekend, I managed to get along to the Warbirds display at Ardmore which was pretty cool, then later in the day hooked up with Dean and Ash for another round of bust it Stay safe out there.. and Ill see you at the next round of the club champs in a couple of weeks. 6 Mudfest 2017 With an interesting title and a spare few hours to kill, a trip to check out the Mudfest seemed like a good idea. I was a little late leaving so I missed the rush of 4 wheel drives heading down to Meremere for the early start. Getting across the north bound lane to enter the drag strip road is interesting and I imagine crossing it during holiday traffic would almost be impossible. There was already a large crowd and a heap of trucks waiting inline to enter the open session. I reckon there was probably 1000 keen mudders over the day and around 180 trucks entered the fun. Entertainment for kids was there and a couple of industry stands with nice and shiny fruit to buy for your truck. I was particularly interested in a roof top tent. It appeared to be well made and very convenient to use. It has to be said the day did not provide a great deal of challenging 4 wheel driving. However, as a place to blast around and let off some steam and generally enjoy yourself it couldn't be beat. There must have been about 30 or 40 trucks at any one time lined up to get on the track and probably 20 enjoying the drive. An immediate right turn as you entered the gate had the beginning of the track running along the fence line. This allowed spectators an up close view of petrol heads in all kinds of trucks attempt bogs, a small hill, and a windy track about 300m long through trees to warm up. The track opened to a massive mud bog paddock with a huge drain running Page 6 Quad Torque

7 through it. A heap of trucks got stuck and waited for a tow while the rest blasted around and got well covered with mud. The paddock had to be about 500m long by 300m wide and not one blade of grass survived the onslaught. You know how it is, a bunch of spectators always encourages an added 1/4 throttle and some engines succumbed to that. Trucks sped around in all directions and at good speed but there was no collisions as far as I could see. Recoveries were done with some heavy iron. I saw a huge JD 4WD tractor, a couple of fert spreading trucks, a digger, and a bulldozer. All were kept very busy extracting stuck vehicles and at one time a fert truck needed the digger to help get out of a big bog hole. Following the open session a mud drag race course was set up. It started a bit late as the open session was very popular and it proved difficult to herd the trucks over to the start line. A driver picked up his girlfriend and carried her out to the deepest bog hole and dropped her into it. The crowd thought this was very funny however she didn't. It is very obvious his plan was to be celibate for a couple of months. Nothing too technical but over all a good fun day out. A great way to legally do a bunch of spins and have a great time. A number of M4WD club members were spotted having a hoon and with big smiles on their faces. It may be worth the club setting up a display next year to attract new members. The first Mudfest was last year and a number of people said there were double the crowd numbers and double the entries this year so it is a growing event. JD. Page 7 Quad Torque

13 Waiuku Forest Saturday Met at Otaua hall at 9am Saturday with Mike and Pat. Waited till 9:35am no one else turned up. Perhaps they were working or it was too wet and windy and cold as it was a rough morning weather wise. Left the hall and went to check Bothwell Park Road for Tony Burgess Mondays Conference members trip who wanted to do Waiuku Forest. Bothwell Park Road was open but council or someone else had filled each end of the road with large lumps of tar seal as there used to be large steep holes. The tar seal was like large boulders and very uneven to negotiate. Left Bothwell Park Road and continued around to Motion Road. The western end started off ok but when we got about half way it became boggy and full of large water holes. We managed to get about 3/4 the way through before we came to some steep and large bogs and water holes. Mike had a try to get through but couldn t get past the first large bog. Some of the water holes and bogs at the eastern end were about 2 metres deep and on steep angles, good for polishing off the paint work so we abandoned the road and went around to Waiuku Forest. Went to the play area for a while where Mike tried to tip his truck over. He went over a drop off with large tree roots on one side. The back bumper dropped down behind some of the tree roots on one side and the other side front wheel was up the bank and the other two wheels were off the ground and the truck was on quite a lean. Pat tried to winch him back over the roots but wasn t successful,. As Mike s truck was on a steep angle he put a strap around the highest side of his back bumper and onto Pat s winch to stop it from tipping over while Mike put his winch rope high up a tree on the lower side and winched himself off the bank and all was well. The rest of the day in the strong wind and rain we drove around the North and South side of the forest, shifted a few trees and finished at the South side at about 2:30pm.
