Departing the wharf you will head for Yaté, located about 2 hours drive from Nouméa. On the way you will take in the sight of many cultural and natural landmarks such as the tribal village of Saint Louis, the artificial lake of Yaté, the valleys of Mt Dore commune, the Church of Miracle at La Conception, etc You will continue towards the Blue River National Park, covering over 9000 hectares. Before starting the actual tour, you will stop at the local market located on Baie de la Moselle and maybe be tempted by the many art and craft stalls. You will then drive up to the Botanical gardens and cagou bird sanctuary- a place of tranquility overlooking the city. The Sanctuary covers 85 acres and houses a large variety of wild and domestic birds. On the way, we will stop at the Ouen Toro lookout for a mesmerizing view of the barrier reef and the surrounding lagoon. Continuing to Tjibaou Cultural Centre, designed by the world famous architect Renzo Piano, the centre showcases exhibits and collections of Kanak and Pacific cultures- it is the perfect place to discover more about the Indigenous culture of New Caledonia and Kanak s customs and traditions. Your driver will make you discover the breathtaking view of Lemon Bay and Anse Vata areas, before dropping you off at the newly refurbished aquarium- a wonderful showcase of the New Caledonian lagoon. 10 DISCOVER NOUMÉA The Noumea Grand tour Rate: XPF This 5 hour tour begins with a self directed visit of the Tjibaou Cultural center for 45minutes, then we ll drive to the Forest park where you have 45 minutes to explore; from there we will take you to the best 360 view of Noumea; driving down to the Faubourg Blanchot you will have the chance to see some of the Noumea s colonial houses. After 30 minutes stop at the fish and vegetable market of the city, we will travel to the picturesque Kuendu beach, passing by the custom senat and old penitentiary.our final stop is at the stunning aquarium for 45 min before returning to your hotel. Fee includes entrance to the forest park, the cultural center and the aquarium. The South Rate: XPF We ll stop at the supermarket of the village of la Coulee for you to purchase your food and beverages for the day. Bring empty bottles with you to refill with fresh spring water in Plum Springs. We will then continue to Yate dam, with stops on route to picture the sunken forest. As we reach the east coast we ll pause at the Church of Touaourou, then continue to Goro village and its beautiful waterfall. We ll drive to the west with a stop in the middle of the territory where we ll stop at Madeleine waterfall (Swimming isn t allowed here, but we ll drive to the nearby Netcha resort where we ll have lunch and swim in the river for an hour before returning to Noumea. 11 DISCOVER NOUMÉA Hidden Oasis Rate: XPF This private Oasis in the middle of the bush, can only be accessed using a 4 wheel drive vehicle through the mining road. On the way there we will stop at the supermarket to purchase your food and beverages. Access is difficult but therefore it s a perfect place to chill since nobody s there. Swim in a perfect clear water with small cascades massaging your body in a red, blue and green landscape. (this tour is depending on the weather. The red earth might stains textiles, so I recommend you to wear dark colored clothes ) Fee doesn t includes food and beverages. 7 hour tour Bourail Rate: XPF This stunning tour will make you explore custom of the native people in the hills of Bourail. We will drive through Boulouparis, La Foa with a pause to picture the Marguerite bridge, crossing Moindou village. In the Bourail neighborhood, to picture le Bonhomme the famous goodman rock (symbol of new Caledonia) that looks like a head in front of this amazing Turtle bay. Then we will have a two hour stop at Poe resort beach including lunch with a beautiful lagoon view. Then driving up the hills, to meet the Boregao tribe chief I will do the custom with, and he will tell us the secret stories of cannibalism by the rock table of sacrifices. He ll show us the Kanak money and how it was used and made. The view from the top of the hill on the Bourail Bassin is breathtaking. He will also explain to us the terrace tarot growing culture. Then we ll drive down the hills passing by the village of Azareu. Finally a pause at Sheraton hotel for a drink before taking the raod down south back to Noumea. 12 DISCOVER NOUMÉA Giant fern park Rate: XPF Driving through Boulouparis, La Foa and its footbridge, the direction to Farino and the parc. You will have to choose between the 3 or 5 hour walk inside the park and try to meet the cagou bird. (In Sarramea you can also do the Plateau de Dogny walk instead, 5 hours, but it s a very difficult one). Stop at the Hotel Evasion for a drink and a bath in the fresh river to cool down. Return to Noumea Fee includes trip and entrance to the park. 9 hour tour Hienghène (fee depends on the chosen place to sleep).1200kms tour. Minimum 2 people. Driving through Boulouparis, La Foa and its footbridge, Moindou, Bourail tour included, then we ll drive to Kone up North where we ll spend the night in a hotel or guest house. Next morning option to fly above the lagoon and the famous heart of Voh, and the number 2 deepest water hole in the world. Then driving across the mountain from the west to the east coast, to finally get to Hienghène by the scenic coast road. We ll have lunch in the village facing la poule the chicken rock. We ll sleep at a hotel or in a guest house at the mountain tribe. 3 rd day we ll drive along the east coast to the south through Poindimié, Ponérihouen, Houailou, and cross the chain from Poro village on the east coast to Sarramea on the west coast where we ll make a stop a Hotel Evasion for a drink before returning to Noumea. 13 City Tour (zoo & forest park or The Tjibaou Cultural Center) Pick up at 09h00. Take the half day trip to discover all the main sites and monuments of Noumea, driving along the Anse Vata bay and Lemon beach to the picturesque market, Coconut Park, the great cathedral. Then head for the zoo&forest park (you can discover the only protected dry forest in Noumea and Cagou bird). Or you can choose to go to The Tjibaou Cultural Center (to appreciate the Kanak culture and its history).then a picnic on the Kuendu Beach. Return passing by the Promenade Vernier just to the highest point of Noumea, Ouen Toro with a full lagoon view. After back to the hotel around 2pm. 9500XPF/per The Great South Pick up at 7:45am. Driving direction to South. Choice 1: Visit in the morning the blue river park to discover: rain forest, Kaoris trees, scrub land left by the mining industry, carnivorous plant and some endemic species of animals such as Cagou and Noutou bird. Get out of the park one lookout just before Yate dam. Choice 2: Visit in the morning Yate dam then from there take a walk to a natural rock pool for swimming or relaxing. After the Yate dam, a stop-over at the high spot to contemplate the bay of Yate. Afterwards, a local meal will be served in a traditional restaurant on shore by the sea. In the afternoon, visit the Wandiana waterfall, the Prony village and the Somme bay, passing by the mining site of Goro. Around 4:30pm back to the hotel XPF/per Lagoon Tour Pick up at 7:30am. Driving direction Païta, 45 minutes driving to a site where a breakfast awaits you with a wonderful view. Then boarding on the boat for a sea trip to the New Caledonian reef and turquoise lagoon. Then fins, mask and snorkel will be at your disposal to discover the beautiful diversity of New Caledonian lagoon wilderness. You can jump off the boat for a wonderful snorkeling in the middle of the ocean. You can meet many turtles. Then head for a paradise island where a delicious barbecue on the sand will brighten your taste buds. Afternoon, activities of your choice. Return at hotel around 4pm XPF/per Bourail and its wonders Pick up at 07h30. Take a tour to Bourail and its region to enjoy New Caledonia far west way of life. Visit the "Bonhomme" of Bourail, the magnificent «Turtle Bay». For lunch, a meal awaits you in a restaurant feet in sand. 16 TCHOU TCHOU TRAIN The Tchou Tchou train is Nouméa s key attraction. Discover the city s history and must-sees with the Tchou Tchou Train (small open-air motorized train). An experienced guide will accompany you throughout the two-hour trip where you will see superb colonial houses, lush parks and breathtaking lookouts. You will cross Faubourg Blanchot, one of Nouméa s oldest districts. The train will bring you to the top of Ouen Toro and Notre-Dame du Pacifique Hills where you will experience an incredible view of the city and the ocean. The route can vary depending on the traffic. The passengers also have the possibility to get off at Coconut Square. The tours are in English and French with 4 stops at beautiful look-outs. Cruise for only minutes aboard one of Mary D's luxury vessels and you will arrive on the 'secret' Amédée Island where you will be welcomed by the South Pacific atmosphere of swaying palm trees, beautiful white sandy beaches and happy, smiling people. The Amédée Lighthouse was France's first metal lighthouse and it boasts a unique history. The Amédée lighthouse towers 56 meters above the small island, which is only 400 meters long and 270 meters wide, 24 kilometers from Nouméa. To admire the magnificent panoramic view the 'brave' can climb the 247 steps of the superb cast iron staircase, which leads to the top. 26 TAXI BOATS DUCK ISLAND Discover the lagoon in all simplicity. The taxi boats offer a shuttle service to the island. The beach: Sheltered from the wind, deckchairs and parasols are available to offer you an unforgettable moment of relaxation and leisure. For greater comfort, small traditional huts that can welcome up to 4 people as well as private lounges can be rented for the day. The huts and the lounges have to be booked in advance. However, no booking is required for the deckchairs. This space was created for relaxation and calm. The underwater path: The island is classified as marine reserve and the underwater path as Unesco World Heritage. The team works closely with the Introduction to Environment Centre in order to preserve the island s natural reserve, one of New Caledonia s treasures. The underwater path invites you to discover the lagoon s richness, in the heart of an exceptional fauna and flora. All you have to do is follow the submarine delineated path, only needing a mask and a snorkel! You can also rent the snorkeling gear if you wish to. Volunteers from the Introduction to Environment Centre are on the island at weekends and bank holidays to share their passion and their knowledge about the surrounding fauna and flora. The restaurant: In a traditional setting (large traditional hut, entirely sculpted by the Kanak artist Timothée Nemba, the island s restaurant Le Faré suggests specialties in a refined and relaxed atmosphere. On the menu you will have the choice between the grill and the snack bar. Open every day throughout lunch from 10:30 am to 4 pm, without booking required. The open-air museum: Art found shelter on the island. In harmony with the natural environment, around forty artists from the Pacific exhibit their work. 29 TAXI BOATS ESCAPADE ISLAND Discover the lagoon by taxi boats which offer a shuttle service to all the islands around Nouméa. ESCAPADE ISLAND Located a few kilometers from the Anse Vata and not far from the Duck Island, the Escapade Island is in the heart of a marine reserve of 200 hectares full of fish. White sand all around the island and you will easily swim when it is high tide. By snorkeling you can admire beautiful sea floor between colorful corals and fish. In the heart of the reef, you can access all the fauna of the lagoon with crystal clear waters (stingrays, small sharks, turtles, etc.). But it is also an opportunity to relax on the beach. The Escapade Island is also one of the best spot for kitesurfing, suitable for all levels but especially for beginners, with its reef that extends over 1.800m. It is one of the biggest wooded islands of the southern part of the lagoon and an exceptional site when it comes to the marine biodiversity. Its endemic vegetation is common to the southern islands. However, the presence of a dry forest when one wanders into the heart of the island makes it unique. It is also possible to camp on the island where some designated areas with small huts and barbecues have been set. A path, built in order to preserve the marine birds nests, offers a small hike and leads you into the island to discover the dry forest and a lighthouse s remnants. 35 WHALE WATCHING From July to September, the southern part of the lagoon offers the possibility to experience the return of the humpback whales : an opportunity to discover and approach these animals by witnessing their often impressive demonstrations. The humpback whale is a migratory species: after feeding in Antarctica during the summer months, it spends the winter in tropical waters of our beautiful lagoon to breed. You are going to be in a catamaran to observe them in accordance with the charter of good conduct that organizes this activity. 51 JET SKI Half-day excursion Meeting is at 8.15 am at Nouville s water sports center. Briefing on the equipment and the security measures and you will then securely be lead, driving your own jet ski, to the Pacific s clear waters where you will discover Nouméa s most beautiful nature reserves. The trip starts by crossing the harbor to exit towards Lemon Bay, Anse Vata Bay followed by Duck Island and Escapade Island, where you will easily be able to spot some turtles. Finally, you will arrive at the heart of the huge natural swimming pool where the crystal-clear waters of Gull Island will welcome you for a mandatory swim. You will finish by heading to Larégnère Island where you will take a 40-minute break. The discovery of this superb reserve starts out of the water with the magnificent beaches but also underwater as an incredible shoal invites you to bring a mask and snorkel gear along with you to avoid missing out on the experience. To end the excursion you will return by Kuendu Beach and Nouville s harbor around am.
