1 The Seahorse ( ) Fairview 304 Legacy 176: Legacy High won 7 of the 12 events, but Fairview s overwhelming depth led to victory for the Knights.The Knights were led by Julia Benz, Sienna Stonesmith, Jhana Gottlieb and Janaye Monica who each won an individual event. In her first high school meet Catherine Kuhn achieved state qualifying times in the 200IM (2:19.98) and the 500 free (5:27.97) Complete results will be posted to the website. The Diving Knights: The National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association (NISCA) has a Power Points program which is used to compare performances across swimming and diving events, and which is the benchmark used for the National Dual Meet rankings (Fairview placed 27 th in the nation last year). The total of the Power Points for the single best performance of the season by our top three divers last year was 280. In our first meet of the season against Legacy, our top three divers scored a total of 280 Power Points!The Fairview divers achieved a finish in both the varsity and the JV meets. In the varsity competition Julia Benz (174.50), Rachel Ryan (173.20) and Heather Betz (154.40) led the way. In the JV meet, Avery Tallman (102.70) and Monika Wilhelm (78.90) placed 1-2. Swimming individual events: Our top two swimmers in individual swim races were: Jennifer Kuhn (2: nd ) and Nereida Martin Abad (2: th ) in the 200 free; Catherine Kuhn(2: nd ) and JanayeMonica (2: rd ) in the 200 individual medley; Sienna Stonesmith ( nd ) and Rachel Conway ( rd) in the 50 free; Logan Tidstrom (1: nd ) and LizzyDresselhaus (1: rd ) in the 100 butterfly; Sienna Stonesmith (57.76) and Jennifer Kuhn (1:00.20) finished 1-2 in the 100 free; Catherine Kuhn (5: nd ) and Hadley Dorn (5: th ) in the 500 free; Jhana Gottlieb (1:05.59) and Kyla Dickerson (1:06.70) went 1-2 in the 100 backstroke; and JanayeMonica (1:13.61) and Quinn Adams (1:15.53) were 1-2 in the 100 breast. The best event of the meet for the Knights was the 100 backstroke where Jhana Gottlieb, Kyla Dickerson, AzaVerhoeven, Sierra Szeto, and Courtney Carter placed for a scoring advantage Relay: Fairview won the 400 freestyle relay in a state qualifying time (3:56.39), The relay was comprised of Catherine Kuhn (57.64), Rachel Conway (59.97), Victoria Felton (1:00.11) and Sienna Stonesmith (58.67).

2 Fairview JV 350 Legacy JV 100: Fairview placed or in the eight individual swimming events: Kiana Junior (2:24.79) and Audrey Hearn (2:31.73) led the 200 free: Courtney Carter (2:35.96) and Cassidy Waldrip (2:36.88) took the 200 individual medley; Chandler Webster (27.42) and KilianBeggan (28.10) led the 50 free; Alex Christensen (1:15.93), and Maggie Hearn (1:17.71) swept the 100 fly; Mallory Metzler (1:02.59) and Taylor Self (1:04.70) led the 100 free; Melissa Kohl (6:44.88) and Emily Green (6:45.16) paced the 500 free; Hannah Chow (1:10.43), andkiana Junior (1:11.26) led the 100 backstroke; and Cassidy Waldrip (1:20.25) and Lucie Majeticova(1:23.26) took the 100 breast. Kudos for Emily Green and Lucie Majeticova who in their first time ever to swim an event, each placed second in the JV competition. Also, praise for Hannah Chow, Kiana Junior and Jenna Hattendorf who s times in the 100 backstroke were each faster than the fastest Legacy varsity swimmer in the event. JV Relays: The Knights finished or better in all of the JV relays: In the 200 medley relay, the winning A team (2:12.42) was composed of Mallory Metzler (33.81), Melissa Kohl (37.76), Corinne Lythgoe (32.43) and Katie Siegrist (28.42); the winning 200 free relay was Fairview E (1:57.46) which was comprised of Sheridan Gill (29.52), Madeline Kasic (29.88), Geta Dunn (29.68) and Sadie Mathews (28.38), and the top 400 free relay was Fairview A Team (4:25.64) and was swum by Killian Beggan (1:04.73), Hannah Chow, Greta Dunn, and Emma Hutchinson (splits not available). Reminders. Bring a water bottle to practice to stay hydrated. Powdered Gatorade is provided at South.Athletes should try to eat 400 to 600 calories within 30 minutes after practice in order to speed the replenishment of muscle glycogen. The optimal composition of the post-exercise feeding is four grams of carbohydrates to one gram of protein. Chocolate milk is very close to this optimal nutritional ratio. Swimmers expecting significant results should swim six times per week. Morning Practice: This coming week (December 10-14) we will have morning swim practice available all 5 days with two lanes available for practice on the following schedule: Monday/Wednesday/Friday 6:30-7:30AM: and Tuesday & Thursday 7:00-7:45AM.

3 Junior National Swimmers: Best wishes to Abbie Houck and Lacey Smith who are competing this week in the US Junior Nationals in Knoxville, Tennessee on December 6-8. Team Thank You: To Kelly Fano who single handedly made over 80 sack dinners for our team at the Legacy meet and to Laura Tidstrom who baked treats for each dinner. Thank you to Greg Tucker for his help with power Rack, we really appreciate your efforts. Special thanks to Nancy Reck the unsung hero of the books, account all of our events and expenditures. Donations: If you haven t had a chance to make your donation to the team, now would be agreat time to get it in before the year end. The team needs your support to fund many elements of our swim program that are not provided by BVSD. We really need everyone to participate at some level. Upcoming Events: Parent volunteers will be needed for BoCo on Friday, January 4 th at VMAC with the swim meet starting at 1:00 PM and the dive meet commencing at about 2:00 PM. This is a new venue for us but one we think you will love. The meet will run as a one day timed final and the swim and dive meets will run concurrently. We will utilize all ten lanes for the swim meet and still announce the entrants for the top seeded heats. So look for our Sign-up Genius shortly. Team Photos: Will be held before the January 10 th meet at South Bouder Rec. All team members are encouraged to attend. Information regarding packages (individual and team photos) will be sent out via after the New Year. The next Pasta Power-up will be held Thursday, January 3 at the Cornerstone Church in South Boulder after practice. This will be hosted by Susanne Kim, Diane Bissert and Peck. Directions will be ed over the break. Colorado Invite Entry: is due Monday, December 10. Qualification times are listed on page 26 of the Parent/Athlete handbook. Swimmers who have multiple qualification standards should communicate with the coaching staff about their preferred races for Invite. All swimmers with Invite qual. standards should be

OLY Invite Entry: The OLY Invite is a new meet for our team. It is a prelims/finals meet to be held Friday, December 14 th (the last day of regular class before finals!) at Gateway High School, 1300 S.Sable Blvd. Aurora The Oly Invite is limited to athletes who have not achieved a cut time for the Colorado Invite (see page 26 of the Parent/Athlete Handbook for the list). The bus will leave Fairview at 10AM, warmup will begin immediately when we arrive and must be completed by 11:45AM, swimming prelims begin at 12, swimming is estimated to end at 2:45, diving (6 dives-no finals) starts at 3:45, warmup for swim finals begins at 4:45, swim finals start at 6PM, the meet is expected to end at 8PM, the bus will depart at 8:15, and arrive Fairview at 9PM. We may have unlimited individual entries in the meet, and 4 relay entries. Only 4 individuals per school may advance to finals in individual events and only the top relay per school will advance. Because athletes with Colorado Invite cuts are excluded, this is an excellent meet for swimmers who would normally have a hard time making finals in a high school meet. Athletes and parents should consider whether it is wise for the athlete to miss most of the school day on the last regular school day before finals The entry is due Tuesday, December 11. Alumni Brunch: Mark your calendars for Friday, December 28 11:00 1:00 at the Smith's house. It's tradition that every year over WinterBreak, the current team host a brunch for the team's alumni. It's a time to re-connect and hear what everyone's up to! All alumni, current team members and coaches are invited to this year's brunch. The Smith's will host the event at their home 255 Barcelona Drive, Boulder CO Anyone interested in helping by providing a dish can contact Mary Smith at mary@pmsmith.net; additional food would be greatly appreciated.
