L A-10 All-Rookie, All-Championship selection MIZUNO TIGER CLASSIC The Billikens open the 2007 campaign against Louisiana-Monroe at 4:30 p.m. on Friday in the Mizuno Tiger Classic hosted by LSU in Baton Rouge, La. SLU will then take on New Orleans on Saturday at 1 p.m. before closing out the tournament against host LSU at 7 p.m. FOLLOW THE ACTION ONLINE Follow all of the action from the Mizuno Tiger Classic online at Go to the Volleyball page, then scroll down to the links on the right side of the page. SCOUTING THE WARHAWKS Lousiana-Monroe compiled a 5-29 overall record and finished seventh in the West division of the Sun Belt Conference with a 2-16 mark in The Warhawks return three starters, including senior and 2006 kill leader Ilima Sam Fong, and the libero from last season. ULM is guided by second-year head coach John Schmidt. SLU leads the all-time series 2-0. The last meeting between the two teams was in SCOUTING THE PRIVATEERS New Orleans put together a ledger last season, including a 12-7 mark in the Sun Belt to tie for second in the West. The Privateers, who return three starters and the libero from last season, will be led by outside hitting upperclassmen Dobrila Kovacevic and Lindsey Boler. Jozsef Forman is in his first season as the head coach at UNO. The Privateers claimed the only previous meeting with SLU in SCOUTING THE TIGERS Tournament host LSU returns three starters from its 2006 squad that went 26-6 and participated in the NCAA Tournament. The Tigers earned the SEC West crown by racking up a 16-4 record. Junior outside hitters Marina Skender and Kyna Washington lead the 2007 Tiger squad, which is currently ranked 23rd in the CSTV/AVCA preseason poll. Fran Flory is entering in her 10th as the head coach at LSU, which leads the all-time series against SLU 2-0. Last season, Saint Louis fell to the Tigers 3-1 in the final game of the Billiken Invitational. BILLS PICKED TO REPEAT The Saint Louis volleyball team has been selected to win the Atlantic 10 Conference s West division in 2007 according to the league s head coaches. Last season, the Bills and Dayton shared the regular-season crown with identical 11-2 records. It was SLU volleyball s first regular-season conference crown since winning the Mid-Continent Conference race in ON THE ROAD AGAIN Saint Louis will make the road its home in 2007 as 19 of its 28 matches will be played away from the friendly confines of the Bauman-Eberhardt Center. The Billikens will play their home opener on Fri., Sept. 7, at 7 p.m. against Southeast Missouri State, their first game during the Santo Bento Volleyball Invitational.

Departed outside hitter Angela Powers must be replaced in the starting lineup after she led the 2006 squad with 412 kills. The Billikens will also need to replace All-American outside hitter Tatyana Menshikova, who amassed 358 kills last season despite playing in only 79 games. IN THE BEGINNING The Bills are 3-0 in season openers under head coach Anne Kordes. SLU owns a ledger in home openers since the program began in Nine of those wins have come via the shutout. Saint Louis is 13-8 all-time in season openers on the road. This year s season opener on August 24 is the earliest that the Bilikens have started a season in program history. SLU began the 2006 campaign on August 25. BREAKING BARRIERS Setter Whitney Roth had a sensational freshman season in 2006, one that included breaking SLU s singleseason assist standard. Roth compiled 1,528 assists to shatter the previous record of 1,423 established by lelia Roberts in In fact, she already ranks 12th on the Billikens career assist charts. TITLE TIME In 2006, the Billikens won three matches in three days to earn their first A-10 Championship title en route to their first NCAA Tournament berth. SLU swept Fordham in the first round, beat Temple 3-1 in the semifinals and downed host Dayton 3-1 to claim the championship. DOUBLE DEUCE The Billikens posted 22 victories in 2006, the most since the 1999 squad tallied 23 wins. The.710 winning percentage is the best since the 1998 team notched a.750 mark. SIX PACK The Billikens won six straight matches before falling to Purdue in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The six consecutive wins was the longest unbeaten streak since the team opened the 1999 season with 10 straight victories. TOURNEY AWARDS Sammi McCloud was named the A-10 Tournament s Most Outstanding Player, while Whitney Behrens and Whitney Roth were selected to the All-Championship team. TRIPLE-DOUBLE TIME In the Bills win over Southeast Missouri State on Oct. 25, Sammi McCloud recorded the only triple-double by an Atlantic 10 Conference player last season. With 11 kills, 10 assists and 10 digs, she became just the second freshman in SLU program history to achieve the feat. The last SLU player to record a triple-double was Lauren Boissevain on Nov. 20, Only 21 triple-doubles have been recorded in Billiken volleyball history. COACH ANNE KORDES Head coach Anne Kordes begins her fourth season as head coach and has compiled a record. In 2006, she led the Billikens to the program s first NCAA Tournament berth and was selected as the A-10 Coach of the Year. The Billikens won the A-10 Championship and a share of the 2006 A-10 regular-season title, the first for the program since Kordes has coached two All-Americans, the Northeast Region Freshman of the Year, three All-Region picks, four All-Conference first-team selections, five conference All- Rookie selections and one league Rookie of the Year. In addition, under Kordes, the Billikens have had one Academic All-District selection. YOUTH GONE WILD Underclassmen dominate the 2007 Billiken roster, which includes rookies Megan Boken (Wheaton, Ill. / St. Francis), Emily Galbraith (Louisville, Ky. / Assumption), Megan Power (Sugar Grove, Ill. / St. Francis) and redshirt freshman Elyse Groh (Portage, Mich. / Central). The Billikens have nine freshmen and sophomores on their 13-player roster. GRIN & BEHR IT Sophomore Whitney Behrens (St. Louis, Mo. / Incarnate Word) compiled 535 digs as a freshman, the thirdmost in a single-season at SLU was selected to the A-10 All-Championship team and A-10 All-Rookie squad. MERRY CHRISTMAS Junior Lauren Christman (Oak Brook, Ill. / Hinsdale Central) finished the 2006 season with 233 kills and 131 blocks as a middle blocker.

LSU won its division in the SEC last year, competed in the NCAA Tournament and they ve got a lot of good players coming back. Right away we re going to be able to see where we are. Last year, we had the opportunity to invite them to our tournament and we re playing them at about the same time as last year so it will be intersting to see how far we ve come in a year. I think our level of play has increased, our recruiting is better and we ve done a good job of preparing our players.
