With the win, UNC captured its eighth victory over a top-10 team and fourth since The ACC/Big Ten Challenge victory was Carolina s first ever over a team ranked in the top two, after UNC defeated the thirdranked team in the nation in both 2014 and The Tar Heels took their first loss of the year the following night at the hands of No. 5 Minnesota, bringing Carolina s all-time record against top-10 teams to 8-29, including 2-1 in UNC s Top-10 Victories No. 4 Nebraska H 3-2 Sept. 13, 1996 No. 10 Wisconsin H 3-1 Aug. 31, 2002 No. 8 Minnesota A 3-2 Sept. 20, 2008 No. 10 California N 3-2 Dec. 1, 2011 No. 3 Florida State H 3-1 Nov. 14, 2014 No. 3 Stanford H 3-0 Sept. 10, 2015 No. 9 Penn State A 3-2 Aug. 27, 2016 No. 2 Wisconsin H 3-2 Sept. 9, 2016 In addition to three top-10 Big Ten foes, Carolina also faced TCU twice in nonconference play, who has received votes in all-but-one poll this season. UNC will only have to face the Cardinals and the Panthers once each, but both contests will be on the road. Tar Heels Dominate Weekly Awards True freshman Julia Scoles, who enrolled at UNC in January to begin training with the Tar Heels a semester early, proved her spring workouts were worth it as she exploded onto the scene at the Penn State Classic. The rookie hit.438 with eight kills and two aces in her collegiate debut, then posted back-to-back doubledoubles against West Virginia and Penn State with 11 kills in each match and a total of 29 digs.
