Action begins on Saturday against the Pirates at 2 p.m., while the Wildcats meet the Panthers at 2 p.m. on Sunday. Pitt (9-8, 3-1 Big East) went 1-1 in it s matchups against then-no. 19 St. John s (3-1) and UConn (3-0). The Panthers were led by junior Kelly Campbell, who recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 16 kills and 10 digs in the loss. The next day, sophomore Meagan Dooley led the team with a match-high 15 kills in the Panthers shutout victory over UConn. In addition, Dooley leads the squad with 66 total blocks and 22 block solos. Head coach Chris Beerman looks to earn his 250th career win and 150th win at the helm of the Panthers. Beerman has led Pitt to four consecutive Big East Tournaments in his eight years. Seton Hall (10-7, 1-3) recorded its first conference win of the season with a shutout over DePaul. The Pirates are led by Sarah Osmun with a team-leading 261 kills and 733 total attacks. Alona Cherkez of Villanova recorded 26 kills and 24 digs in its last contest, as the Wildcats swept their opponents during the second Big East weekend. In the all-time series, Pitt leads both Seton Hall (31-3) and Villanova (29-6). In the contest junior Kelly Campbell posted her seventh double-double of the season with 16 kills and 10 digs. The Panthers then traveled to UConn and earned their fifth shutout victory of the season with a 3-0 win, where sophomore Meagan Dooley posted a game-high 15 kills. PODCAST OPPURTUNITY The Villanova match will be available as a podcast on Panthers All-Access at Coverage begins at 1:45 p.m on Sunday. MILESTONE HOPEFULS Head Coach Chris Beerman is just one win shy of his 250th career win. That victory will also be his 150th win with the Panthers, in the short eight years he has been at Pitt. Historically, Pitt ranks 12th with 840 program wins. HEADED TO THE TOP Already the all-time leader in career attempts with 4,379 to date, senior Diana Andreyko needs just 64 kills to move into second on the all-time kills list. With the 64 kills she will pass Wendy Hatlestad s ( ) 1,681 kills on the list. To surpass the 1993 record of 1,815 she needs 198 kills. PROTECTING TURF Now 5-0 at home, the Panthers will defend the Fitzgerald Field House on when Seton Hall and Villanova visit. Pitt opened their home slate, winning the Pitt Invitational with three consecutive wins against Geroge Mason (3-1), UAB (3-1) and Buffalo (3-0). Then, in the Big East opener, Pitt defeated Notre Dame (3-1) and DePaul (3-0). The last time Pitt was 5-0 at home was in 1999, where the Panthers opened a 6-0 home schedule. PITT ON T.V. Pitt s thrilling Sept. 22 contest against Notre Dame was selected as an AVCA Match of the Week and was televised on a tape delayed basis on Monday, Sept. 24,, as one out of a 25-match slate. The broadcast crew included Jason Knapp handling the play-by-play duties, while Standford standout Canyon Cemon. NATIONAL SPOTLIGHT Now seated as the 29th-best team in the nation, Pitt averages assists per game. Pitt slipped to 38th in the nation in kills per game with Making the list individally is Kelly Campbell, who ranks 73rd with 4.31 per game. The Panthers are 61st in NCAA standings with a.237 hitting percentage. In 49th place, Jessica Moses boasts a.372 hitting clip for Pitt. Improving in the rankings, Michelle Rossi is 63rd on the digs per game list with a 5.1 average. Making its first appearance on the list, Pitt is 72nd with 2.59 blocks per game. RISING TO THE CHALLENGE Senior Diana Andreyko was named Big East Volleyball Player of the Week on Sept. 10 after she led the Panthers to their Pitt Invitational Title. During a 4-0 week, Andreyko averaged a.309 hitting percentage and boasting 70 kills. She also recorded two double-doubles against Duquesne (15k, 11d) and George Mason (20k, 11d). ROLL CALL Sophomore Meagan Dooley was named to the Big East Conference s weekly honor roll on Sept. 3., after competing in the squad s first weekend of competition. Dooley led the team with 37 kills (tied), a.408 hitting percentage and nine blocks during the Arkansas Clarion Inn Invitational. Against Pepperdine, she recorded 13 kills and posted a.500 hitting clip.

3 PITT S KELLY CAMPBELL NAMED BIG EAST PLAYER OF THE WEEK (SEPT. 24) PROVIDENCE, R.I.--Pitt junior Kelly Campbell was named Big East Volleyball Player of the Week after an impressive performance during the Panther s 2-0 conference opening weekend. This is Pitt s second player of the week award this season. Campbell (Mansfield, Ohio/Mansfield/Pacific) led the Panthers, as they hosted preseason favorite Notre Dame and DePaul at home. She recorded 42 kills for a 6.0 kills per game average and tallied a.355 hitting percentage. In the Fighting Irish contest, she boasted a career- and game-high 30 kills for a.348 hitting clip and a Big East best for a four-game match. During an intense game four, she recorded 11 kills in the win. The next day she returned to action against the Blue Demons and garnered a double-double for her efforts, posting 12 kills and 11 digs. She also notched a season-high.370 hitting average in the 3-0 sweep. The Panthers (8-7) are on a three-match win streak and a five-match unbeaten home record. 4 PANTHERS VOLLEYBALL NEWS AND NOTES LEADING THE CONFERENCE Pitt leads the Big East in conference matchs with digs per game. However, in overall match-ups the Panthers are second in assists per game (15.02), trailing No. 18 St. John s. INDIVIDUAL LEADERS Sophomore Michelle Rossi is first in the league with 5.1 digs per game overall. Additionally, Rossi is first in conference contests with 5.71 digs per game. ABOVE ALL OTHERS Kelly Campbell leads the conference in individual match highs, as she recorded 30 kills in the four-game Notre Dame contest. That was the most kills in a match since 2004 when Gini Ullery achieved that mark. In addition Diana Andreyko and Campbell provide a one-two punch, as they are the top-two on the four-game total attempts list with 67 and 66 against ND. As a team, Pitt is first in match highs in the league with 84 kills and 78 assists against the Fighting Irish. CLUTCH COMEBACKS In their first Big East matchup of the season, Pitt earned a 3-1 victory of rival Notre Dame. The Panthers rallied comebacks in all three of their winning games, including the game four win. That win was the fourth victory in five matches for the Panthers. SEEING DOUBLE Four members of the Panthers squad have earned double-doubles this season. First junior Stephanie Ross recorded one in the season opener against Georgia Tech with 12 kills and 10 digs. Since then both senior Diana Andreyko and junior Kelly Campbell have posted multiple double-doubles amongst themselves. The final double-double contributor is Nicole Taurence who totaled 35 assists and 11 digs in the George Mason match. THE ONE THAT COUNTED The Panthers reclaimed their Pitt Invitational title this season. With three wins in to days, this was the first time Pitt won its invitational since 1999, and the first time playing in the championship match since ALL-TOURNAMENT TIME Juniors Kelly Campbell and Jessica Moses were named to all-tournament teams the first two weeks of the season. ALL-TOURNAMENT TIME PART TWO During the Pitt Invitational, senior Diana Andreyko was deemed the MVP, while juniors Kelly Campbell and Jessica Moses were added to the all-invitational team. Pitt won the tournament and had the most representatives on the allinvitational team. ON TOP OF THE GAME Pitt was honored as one of the recipients of the GamePlan/American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award presented by the AVCA for their achievements in the classroom during the school year. The award was presented to 303 high schools and colleges across the nation, including 55 NCAA Division I schools. Teams are required to excel in the classroom and maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale and a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale during the school year. The volleyball team was also honored with Pitt s Athletic Academic Trophy for boasting the highest team GPA of CONFERENCE CONTENDER Senior Diana Andreyko and sophomore Meagan Dooley were named to the All-Big East Preseason Team, as the Panthers were ranked fourth out of 15 conference teams by the coaches in the Big East preseason poll.
