Freshmen Nika Markovic and Layne Van Buskirk were the Panthers final awardees, earning ACC All-Freshman honors. During that stretch of games Pitt surrendered only 10 sets and recorded five sweeps. The Panthers were a perfect 5-0 on the road during the late-season hot streak. v MILESTONE/RECORD BOOK WATCH - Redshirt sophomore libero Angela Seman is 44 digs away from breaking into career digs cateogry of the record book. - Junior Mariah Bell will look to break into the top 10 in career kills and aces in Bell is 287 kills away from moving into the top 10 in kills, including just 216 away from hitting 1,000 career kills. She also needs just 18 aces to enter the record book. v HITTING 1,000 - Pitt redshirt sophomore libero Angela Seman eclipsed the 1,000 dig mark Dec. 2, 2016 in Pitt's win over Dayton in the NCAA Tournament. - Seman led the Panthers back row defense with 3.95 digs per set. v MAKING HER MARK - One of four international products on the roster, Nika Markovic had a major impact in the Panthers success since her return from injury. - The Braslovce, Slovenia, native was sidelined in early October due to foot surgery for three games. She was also limited in three more NEWS AND NOTES contests before being given the full go on Oct. 28 against NC State. - The team fell into a lull in her absence, producing a 2-4 record. After her return, Pitt picked up its play, rattling off four straight wins, including an upset at home against No. 8 North Carolina. - In the upset over the Tar Heels, Markovic had a career-high 19 kills, which led the Panthers. She also produced 10 kills in the win over NC State that same weekend, and tallied a total of 19 digs over the two games. She was honored as the ACC Freshman of the Week for her efforts. - Markovic ended her freshman campaign with 233 kills and a.266 hitting percentage. She also racked up 39 aces, second-best on the team. v THE FRESHMAN ATTACKER - Freshman Layne Van Buskirk, one of the Panthers two middles, was one of the most efficient attackers all season for Pitt. The freshman standout tallied a.345 hitting percentage, which ranks second as a Panther. - Van Buskirk's mark in hitting percentage ranks sixth in the ACC. She is the lone freshman in the top 10 in that category. v SERVING IT UP - Junior Mariah Bell finished the season with 43 service aces, ranking her third in the ACC in total aces. Her 0.35 aces per set lands fourth. v ASSISTING THE TEAM - Sophomore Kamalani Akeo, the ACC Setter of the Year, ended the 2016 season with 1,379 assists which led the ACC. Her aces per set landed her fourth in the conference. v PITT S LEADING LADY - After returning from two foot injuries one from early in the 2015 season and another in the offseason earlier this year, redshirt sophomore Stephanie Williams has dominated in her redshirt season. - Williams posted 26 matches in which she tallied double digit kills, including five contests where she put away 20 or more. Her highest total of the season came against American, Saturday, Sept. 10, when she racked up a career-high 25 kills. - Williams ends the season ranked fourth overall in the ACC in kills per set with a teamleading She ranked fifth in total kills with 467. v POTTS WITH THE BLOCK - Redshirt senior Jenna Potts proved to be the Panthers best blocker last year and remained in that position in 2016 as she led the team with 160 total blocks. - Potts finished her final season in second in the ACC with 160 blocks and fourth with 1.32 blocks per set. - Potts became the Panthers all-time leader in career total blocks after the Bernville, Pa., native earned a team-leading five blocks against Georgia Tech on Nov. 6 to push her past Jennie Driscoll (539) who held the record since With 573 career total blocks, Potts ranks seventh in the nation among all active players. - With Potts eight block assists against No. 22 Michigan she became the new program leader and now boasts 509 in her career. The redshirt senior surpassed Jessica Moses who held the record since 2008 with 412. v PITT ENDS REGULAR SEASON WITH WINS - The Panthers won their final two regular season contests, defeating Virginia Tech in straight sets on senior night prior to traveling to Virginia and defeating the Cavaliers Aainst the Hokies, redshirt freshman Stephanie Williams recorded her 23rd match with double-digit kills tallying 15, while finishing with a.444 hitting percentage. Senior Jenna Potts led the Panthers with a.462 hitting percentage and four blocks. Sophomore setter Kamalani Akeo tallied 35 assists on the evening and was the lone Panther to record a double-double. - On Saturday against the Cavaliers, the Panthers closed the regular season with their 15th conference victory. Williams, freshman Nika Markovic, and junior Mariah Bell each recorded a double-double in Pitt s four set victory. Williams led the way with 15 kills and 11 digs. Markovic served up four aces and Potts led the Panthers defense with four blocks.

6 v PANTHERS SWEEP ACC WEEKLY AWARDS - Sophomore Kamalani Akeo and freshman Nika Markovic swept the ACC weekly honors after leading the Panthers to a pair of road victories over Syracuse and Boston College. Akeo, the Panthers setter, was named ACC Player of the week, while Markovic earned ACC Freshman of the Week for the second time this season. v PANTHERS DEFEAT ORANGE, EAGLES - The Panthers captured two road victories this past weekend over Syracuse and Boston College. - During Friday s match against the Orange, sophomore Kamalani Akeo tallied 51 assists, while junior Mariah Bell, redshirt freshman Stephanie Williams and freshman Nika Markovic all recorded double-doubles. - On Sunday against the Eagles, Markovic had 15 kills and hit. 250, in addition to tallying with 17 digs and three blocks. The Panthers notched a hitting percentage of.412 which marks Pitt s second highest in an ACC match this year. v PITT DEFEATS WAKE FOREST, FALLS TO DUKE - The Panthers split at home, sweeping Wake Forest 3-0 before falling to Duke in three sets. - During Friday s match against the Demon Deacons, redshirt freshman Stephanie Williams led the Panthers with 16 kills while hitting an impressive On Sunday, junior Mariah Bell finished with a match-high 18 kills in the three-set match. Redshirt senior Jenna Potts increased her program record in total blocks by adding another four block assists in the match. v PANTHERS TAKE SERIES VS. CLEMSON/GT - The Panthers earned two ACC victories on the road, sweeping Clemson 3-0 before defeating Georgia Tech During Friday s match against the Tigers, freshman Nika Markovic and redshirt freshman Stephanie Williams lead the Panthers with 14 kills each. Markovic also had four block assists on the day and hit On Sunday, Williams posted a double-double with 22 kills and 12 digs in the four-set match. Markovic capped off her career weekend with 15 kills, eight digs and four block assists. - Redshirt senior Jenna Potts added five block NEWS AND NOTES assists in the match, which moved her into first place all-time in total blocks at Pitt with 541. The record was previously owned by Jennie Driscoll (539), who held the record for 20 years. v PANTHERS SWEEP ACC WEEKLY AWARDS - Junior Mariah Bell and freshman Nika Markovic captured ACC weekly honors after leading the Panthers to back-toback five-set victories including an upset of No. 8 North Carolina Sunday at the Fitzgerald Field House. v PITT SWEEPS STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA - The Panthers defeated N.C. State before triumphing over No. 8 North Carolina, both in five sets. - During Friday s match against the Wolfpack, Pitt recorded 68 kills, more than half of which came from redshirt freshman Stephanie Williams and junior Mariah Bell who put up 16 and 22 respectively. Libero Angela Seman helped power the defense with 25 digs, while redshirt senior Jenna Potts put up six blocks. - On Sunday, Bell, Williams and freshman Nika Markovic each contributed double-doubles to the team s victory over the No. 8 North Carolina. Bell posted 18 kills and 10 digs, while Williams recorded 14 kills and 11 digs. Markovic led the Panthers with 19 kills and also had 10 digs. Seman contributed an additional 18 digs in the win and Potts also produced 8 blocks on the game. v PANTHERS GO 1-1 VS. IRISH & CARDS - The Panthers finished 1-1 at home, falling to Notre Dame in straight sets before bouncing back and sweeping Louisville During Friday s match against the Fighting Irish, Pitt recorded more kills (42/25), assists (41/35) and digs (44/40) than Notre Dame but couldn t find a way to get ahead of the Irish throughout the sets. Redshirt freshman Stephanie Williams powered the offense with 15 kills, while junior Mariah Bell added 12 kills along with a.273 hitting percentage. - On Sunday, Williams once again led the way on offense, recording a team-leading 13 kills and 11 digs. Sophomore setter Kamalani Akeo recorded 31 assists, helping Mariah Bell tally nine kills, while Layne Van Buskirk and Jenna Potts added seven kills each. v PITT SPLITS IN THE SUNSHINE STATE - Pitt concluded last weekend 1-1, besting Miami 3-1 before falling to No. 15 Florida State in four sets. - In Friday s match against the Hurricanes, junior Mariah Bell recorded a career-high 21 kills, while redshirt freshman Stephanie Williams posted 17. Senior Jenna Potts added a match-high eight blocks in the victory. - On Sunday, Bell concluded a standout weekend posting 17 kills against the Seminoles. Despite posting more kills (62/46), assists (58/41) and digs (71/53), the Panthers were unable to get around Florida State s defense at the net as the nationally ranked team put together 20 team blocks. Junior Kelsey O Neill and freshman Layne Van Buskirk also finished with double-digit kills. v PITT SWEPT AT DUKE, WAKE FOREST - Pitt dropped consecutive matches to Duke and Wake Forest to mark the Panthers first conference losses of the season. - Pitt s six-match winning streak came to an end after the Blue Devils defeated the Panthers The Demon Deacons outplayed Pitt last Sunday, defeating the Panthers 3-1 as well. - In Friday s match at Duke, redshirt freshman Stephanie Williams recorded 19 kills for the second time in the last three matches. Senior Jenna Potts also added a team-high six blocks in the match. - Junior Mariah Bell posted 14 kills in both matches this past weekend. Her 14 kills in Sunday s match against Wake Forest were a team best. v VAN BUSKIRK EARNS 2ND FOW HONORS - Freshman Layne Van Buskirk earned ACC Volleyball Freshman of the Week honors Monday for the second time this season following standout performances against Virginia Tech and Virginia last week. In a 2-0 weekend for the Panthers with wins over the Hokies and Cavaliers, the Ontario, Canada, native put together 23 kills on 35 attempts and errored just three times to hit.571.

NEWS AND NOTES v PANTHER INVITATIONAL - In its opening weekend at home at the Panther Invitational, Pitt highlighted the weekend with a win over No. 22 Michigan in a five-set thriller. This marked the Panthers second win over a top 25 ranked team. Pitt bounced back after losing the first set by winning the next two sets and eventually the fifth to complete the upset. - The Panthers rode the momentum from their first win into the afternoon when they took on CSU Bakersfield, where they came away victorious in straight sets against the Roadrunners. - Pitt capped off the tournament against UC Santa Barbara. Following the team s opening set loss, the Panthers went on to win the next three sets on their way to closing out the tournament sweep. - Redshirt freshman Stephanie Williams was named the MVP of the weekend, while junior Mariah Bell received All-Tournament team honors. v REACHING 1,000 - Pitt s win against Colorado State on Sept. 3, 2016 marked the Panthers 1,000th program win. Pitt is the second team in the ACC to hit the milestone, and the third team in total falling behind the Florida State Seminoles who hit the mark in 2013, while North Carolina also won their 1,000th match on Sept. 3. v KENNESAW STATE INVITATIONAL - Pitt toppled Liberty in a 3-0 sweep to record their first victory of the season at the Kennesaw State Invitational, holding the Flames to a negative hitting percentage (-.112). - Pitt suffered its first loss of the year against a highly touted Missouri squad.
