1 1. Team and Player Registration, Participation a. Players participating must be 18 or older as of July 23rd, b. Players participating must sign participation/liability waiver at tournament check in. c. For Fun and Competitive divisions may be combined if necessary. d. The maximum amount of players per roster is 6 for 4 v 4 and 8 for 6 v 6. e. The minimum amount of players per roster is 2 for 4 v 4 and 6 for 6 v 6. f. Use of ineligible players for the tournament forfeits any wins by the violating team. g. All participants are held to a reasonable standard of fair play, honesty and sportsmanship. Those who do not meet these standards are subject to removal from participation or even team disqualification. 2. Park a. No alcohol is allowed on park grounds. b. No Smoking allowed near the sand courts c. Please keep pets away from the sand courts. d. Please clean up trash from your designated area of play after every game. Trash/recycling will be made available near the courts. 3. Equipment a. Players may participate bare foot, with tennis shoes, sandals or beach shoes. Cleats or spiked shoes are not allowed. b. Teams are encouraged, but not required to wear similar colored shirts/team shirts. Please make sure team names and uniforms are respectable and not questionable. 4. Medical/First Aid a. A player bleeding or with an injury that must be treated must leave the game to take care of the specific injury. First aid will be available at the registration tent. 5. Game Play a. Please note the rules below will be called a little bit tighter by Competitive Teams. For Fun teams still abide by the same rules; however skill levels amongst the players will vary and the calls will not be made as strictly. b. For Coed play: In Coed leagues the following men/women player ratios will be applied. 6 v 6 Leagues: Must play with a minimum of 2 males/females and maximum of 4 of either sex. You may not play with more than 4 males or females on the court at one time. Combos allowed are: a) 4 and 2, b) 3 and 3 or c) 2 and 2 (if necessary). 4 on 4 Leagues may play with a minimum of 1 (each sex) and a maximum of 2 of each sex. Meaning you may not play with 3 of same sex and 1 of the opposite sex. You may play with 2 of the same sex and 1 of the opposite sex. 1

2 If an injury during the match causes a team to fall below the minimum number females then either another female player is entered, or a male is taken out. For all divisions: When the minimum number of players is not reached 10 minutes after the game s start time, the team with an inadequate number of players will lose one game. An additional game will be lost the following ten minutes past the start time and the inadequate team has lost the match; and the team that is present will receive all three wins of the match. If no one is present from a team by 15 minutes after the designated start time the entire match will be forfeited and the team that is present will receive all three wins of the match Exception: For Fun Division Teams with less than 4 players or without 2 women may still play a legal game but only with the opposing team s consent. All teams consenting to play a legal game with less than the allowed minimum waive their right to a forfeit win. Under this circumstance, additional players ( players running late ) on either team may join in on their team s next serve. There will be no referees in the round robin play and calls are to be made by each team. Court Courtesy- When a ball crosses onto another court, please yell out ball to the court the ball is interfering play with. If your game is interfered, replay the serve. Players may leave the boundaries of their court to make a play on the ball, but cannot step into the boundaries of another court and play the ball. Once the ball leaves the sand area and enters the grass area, players can no longer make an attempt to play the ball. This is enforced to protect spectators or other players from collisions. Please be respectful of other games in progress if you are on a court warming up. Disputed calls may be discussed with a site supervisor or if not available, teams can agree to replay the point. Division finals/semifinals will have a site supervisor to make final rulings on any disputed calls. Tournament play to will go to 21 points for the first two games and 15 for the last game. Must win each game by 2 points; rally scoring used. Cap in the first two games is 23 and the cap in the last game is 17 Two (one minute) time-outs are allowed by each team per match (3 games). There is no girl touch rule for 4 v 4 Coed play. The girl touch rule is applied to 6 v 6 Coed play. In 6 v 6 coed play a female MUST hit the ball if a team strikes the ball more them once. Failure to do this will result in loss of the rally and a point awarded to the other team. If a male hits the initial ball to another male on his team and that male hits it over the net. That is a fault. Exception to rule 3(g): If a male hits the initial ball back over the net. That is fine. A volley will be done before the 1 st and 3 rd game, or any random selection process. The winning team may decide to serve/receive or what sides to play on with the losing team making the other choice. During the second game the team that did not serve first in the first game will serve first and the teams will change sides. 2

3 Serving- A serve that makes contact with the net and lands on the opposition's side will NOT be considered a side out. The width of the service area is from sideline to sideline. The depth of the service area is infinite. The server may not step on or over the end line until the ball has been contacted. Blocking/Spiking the serve. You may NOT block or spike the serve. Returning the Serve- Players can return the serve by: 1) Bump pass 2) Clasping their hands together 3) A closed fist 4) A set, (UNLESS THE BALL IS CAUGHT OR CARRIED) 4 v 4 play team members do not need to rotate position on the court. They do have to rotate service in the same order. In 6 v 6 play team members must rotate on the court and must remain in that position until the serve has been contacted. The player in the back right hand corner of the rotation will be designated to serve and continue to rotate clockwise. Player Contact with the Net- No part of the body may touch the net at anytime unless a ball or person driven into the net causes the contact. Player contact with the net in a manner not directly relating to or affecting the course of play is not a violation. Contact with hair or part of the uniform will not be considered a fault. Contact with the supports (poles) is legal as long as it is not in the act of gaining leverage to play the ball. Interference- Beach volleyball allows any and all parts of the body to cross the center line as long as there is no interference with the opposing player. Attacking the Ball- For 6 player teams, back row players cannot attack a ball that is at a height over the net or hit the ball with a downward trajectory. For 4 player teams, there are no restrictions on who may attack the ball. Contact of the ball when spiking is legal only if a portion of the ball is in contact with the plane of the net or on the attacker s/spiker s side of the net. Attackers may follow through over the net after legal contact. Spikers may follow through over the net after legal contact. The ball must be cleanly hit when spiking with an open hand. Guiding or carrying is illegal. Coed 4 s Division Only: NO OPEN-HAND TIPS/dinks. Alternatives include palms, heel of the hand, locked straight fingers, knurled fingers, or the back of the hand. Characteristics of the Contact- The ball can contact any number of body parts down to, and including the foot. Hand Sets - A contact of the ball using the fingers of one or two hands to direct the ball toward a teammate is a set. The ball must come into contact with both hands simultaneously and leave both hands simultaneously to avoid a double hit call. A player may set the ball over the net in front or behind them only in the direction in which their shoulders are squarely facing. Rotation of the ball after the set may indicate a held ball or multiple contacts during the set but in itself IS NOT A FAULT. * Recent revisions to USAVB rules allow a player to return a serve with a two handed set- with the exception that the 3

4 ball must be below the height of the net when set. A set in this manner is extremely difficult and is not recommended for players not familiar with high level volleyball (i.e. club, NCAA etc.) LEAGUE POLICIES A carry is any use of an open hand(s) while making contact with the ball (lifting/throwing) that is not in a firm manner. Blocking- Blocking of the ball across the net above the opponent's court shall be legal provided that such a block is: 1) In 6 s play, made by a front row player. In 4 s play, there are no restrictions on who may block. 2) After a player of the attacking team has spiked the ball, or, in the supervisor s judgment, intentionally directed the ball into the opponent's court, or has exhausted their third allowable hit. 3) After the opponents have hit the ball in such a manner that the ball would, in the supervisor s judgment, clearly cross the net if not touched by a player, provided no member of the attacking team is in a position to make a legal play on the ball 4) If the ball is falling near the net and no member of the attacking team could reasonably make a play on the ball. * Any player participating in a block shall have the right to make the next contact, such contact counting as the first of three hits allowed the team. Multiple contacts of the ball by a player(s) participating in a block shall be legal provided it is during one attempt to intercept the ball. Multiple contacts of the ball during a block shall be counted as a single contact, even though the ball may make multiple contacts with one or more players of the block. *Blocking the Serve- The serve may not be blocked or spiked. Out of Bounds- Out of bounds is the area outside the designated court line. There are no antennas on the nets to mark the boundaries. If the ball makes contact with the net s supporting (exposed) cables or poles the ball is ruled out of bounds. If the ball makes contact with any part of the net even if it is marked out of bounds and lands in bounds the ball is ruled in. If the supervisor sees any of the above rules not being enforced they do have the power intervene and make the proper call. Final scores will be reported by the winning team to the scorer s table. Score sheets or score cards will be available to submit to the scorer s table. 6. Time Regulations/Weather Issues a. In pool play, teams will play all three games in their match. In tournament (bracket) play, teams will play the best of three games (meaning all 3 games in the match are played if necessary). b. If weather delays/postpones the tournament in any way, the tournament director will adjust the format of game play accordingly. 7. Awards/ Prizes 4

5 a. Winning teams in their respective divisions are subject to win prizes/awards equally divided by the tournament director. Tournament sponsors are providing t-shirts/apparel and other forms of prizes to the winning teams. 5
