1 ON 4 COED SAND VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE RULES THE GREENVILLE RECREATION DEPARTMENT WILL CONDUCT THIS AMATEUR LEAGUE TO DETERMINE A GREENVILLE AREA CHAMPION. LEAGUE/REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS A team may become a member of this league by: Paying the team entry fee and player fees standard for all teams participating in the Greenville Recreation sand volleyball league. Having a roster of more than four (4) players and not exceeding seven (7). There are no eligibility regulations for the Adult Sand Volleyball league for the 2016 season. Players who reside within the Greenville City limits will pay a different fee from those players who reside outside the city limits. For liability purposes, roster forms must include player's name, signature, address, birth date, and telephone number. LEAGUE FORMAT THE LEAGUE: Outdoor sand volleyball will consist of only one league in which a double elimination tournament will determine the champion. The league will consist of a round robin schedule to determine seeding followed by a double elimination tournament to determine the league champion. A match will consist of three games up to twenty-one points each. LATE SIGN UP Players not participating within the league may be added to rosters during the course of the season if: o They meet the above eligibility rules. o The manager notifies the Recreation Department so that player can be added to the roster form. o No players can be added after the start of league play. After that point, the team s roster is frozen for the remainder of the season, including playoffs. Any team found using an illegal player would have their game forfeited. The illegal player will be suspended from playing in the league for the next regularly scheduled game. An illegal player is a player who is not on the roster with the recreation department, a player on another team, or someone with incomplete data on the department roster. CHANGING TEAMS A player wishing to change teams must: o Have the change agreed upon by both his present manager and the manager of the team he is changing to. o A player will not be allowed to change teams for the purpose of participating in the league playoffs at the end of the season. PLAYER CONDUCT A PLAYER SHALL NOT: o COMMIT AN UNSPORTSMANLIKE PLAY. This includes, but is not limited to acts or conduct such as: o USING PROFANE OR INAPPROPRIATE LANGUAGE or obscene gestures.

2 o BAITING OR TAUNTING AN OPPONENT or obstructing vision by waving hands near their eyes. PLAYER EJECTION: This will take effect after the player receives his 2nd unsportsmanlike conduct in a game and after the player has violated this rule. o 1 st Ejection - The player is ejected from the game and must leave the area as directed by the league supervisor. The player is also suspended from playing in the next regularly scheduled game. o 2 nd Ejection - The player will not be able to play in another game until he meets with the administration of the league. The Recreation Department will decide the penalty. Any physical violence displayed toward an official, league supervisor, or another player will demand that the offender be suspended from the league for no less then one (1) year from the time of the offense. Players, managers, and spectators, may be removed from the facility and suspended for any action considered by the Recreation Department to be detrimental to the welfare of the league. MANAGER S RESPONSIBILITIES The manager is responsible for: o knowing and understanding the league rules, requirements, policies, etc.. o making sure teammates know and understand the league rules and regulations. o the actions of their team players and spectators. o the eligibility of the players on his team. It is also the responsibility of the manager to have on file with the Greenville Recreation Department a team roster form signed by the manager and players. Teams, players, or managers not conforming to all eligibility rules will be suspended, and games will be forfeited. If the team is dropped from the league for such a violation, no portion of the team entry fee will be returned, players on the team will be ineligible to participate in the league for the remainder of the season and tournament. Managers must submit their line-ups to the supervisor prior to the start of the game. GENERAL RULES AND INFORMATION THE LEAGUE: Outdoor sand volleyball will consist of only one league in which a double elimination tournament will determine the champion. THE FACILITY: Games will be played on the sand volleyball court located at Veteran s Park. THE GAME/THE MATCH: Game time is forfeit time. There must be 3 team members present to start a game. A team may finish with less than three. Teams may play with a combination of the following: 1) 1 man/2 women 3) 2 men/2 woman

3 2) 1 man/3 women 4) 0 men/4 women There may never be more men on the court than woman at any time during play. There may be more woman than men however; the number of men may NOT exceed the number of woman. SERVE/RETURN: Service takes place from any position behind the backline boundary. The server MUST announce the score out loud before serving the ball. He/she should always announce his/her score first. The receiving team may NOT block a serve. Let serve is in play. PLAYING THE GAME: All league matches are best two out of three games, playing to 21 points, using rally scoring. Teams must win by 2 points (no point cap). The team with the highest points at the conclusion of the 1-hour time limit will be deemed the winner of the match. PLAYING THE BALL: The ball must be allowed to break the plane of the net. A player may not go over the net to contact the ball on a block or hit. Only a hard-driven hit may be dug with an open-hand "beach dig." Otherwise, the ball must be given immediate impetus at contact. Hard-Driven Balls: it is legal to momentarily lift or push a "hard-driven ball" on the first team contact. "Hard-driven ball" is defined as "an attack-hit or blocked ball traveling at a high rate of speed, as judged by the referee. In that case, the ball may be momentarily lifted or pushed, provided the attempt is one continuous motion and the player does not change the direction of that motion while contacting the ball." The spirit of this rule is to keep the ball in play longer. No open hand tips: One-handed placement or redirection of the ball with the fingers (a "dink" or "open-hand tip") is a fault. The ball must be hit cleanly with the hand; straight locked fingers, or knurled fingers. No "Carries." No two-handed attacks. In playing the ball, a player may use any part of the body. Any ball that hits any part of the sidelines or end lines is IN. The ball may hit two players simultaneously, but it counts as two hits. Center line: There is no centerline in outdoor volleyball. You can penetrate under the net provided you do not interfere with your opponent. No antennas: there are no antennas therefore no antenna rules for this league. The posts act as antennas for all purposes except player contact. No position or back-row faults: players can start and play anywhere. Only the service order must be obeyed. Switch courts after every 7 points, during set 1 & 2, after every 5 points for set 3. If the switch is forgotten after 7 points it can be made as soon as noticed and the score at the switch will remain the same. FAULTS - COMMITTING AND CALLING THEM: If the serving team commits a fault, a "side-out" results. The opposing team gains the serve.

4 When two opposing players commit fouls simultaneously, the point will be replayed. The best method for calling fouls is to call them on yourself. However, since this is often difficult, team managers may call major faults, either on their own players or on a member of the opposing team if appropriate. If the team managers cannot make a decision, the supervisor will make the deciding call, if the supervisor cannot, then the teams will re-play the point. INTERFERENCE: The sky's the limit. Branches will be considered interference if they extremely disrupt a play. The play will then be replayed. SUPERVISORS RESPONSIBILITIES: A supervisor will be on site to: o Record scores; it is the responsibility of the winning team's captain to report the score to the supervisor. o Settle disputes/questions. o Suspend or eject players/teams if necessary. o Set up equipment o Call for medical assistance if necessary. The Supervisor is NOT there to officiate games or keep score; that is the responsibility of the players. THINGS TO REMEMBER: The ball is not to be kicked or whipped over the net. Disputes should be solved between the mangers, or by consulting the supervisor. When in doubt, just replay the point. The Greenville Recreation Department reserves the right to postpone a game in case of an emergency. It also reserves the right to determine the number and schedule of the games. FORFEIT POLICY A team forfeiting two games will be dismissed from the league. All players will be suspended from participating in the league for the rest of the season. No fees will be returned as a result, and games played previously to the suspension will result in victories for those teams played. It will also result in victories for those teams left to be played on the schedule. Game time is Forfeit Time. LIABILITY Park in designated parking areas only because of emergency vehicles Fire, Police, and Ambulances. Police will ticket and tow. Players are asked to secure valuables, as the Greenville Recreation Department will not be responsible for lost or stolen articles. It is the responsibility of any parent/guardian to keep all children supervised and under control. The City of Greenville, Recreation Department, Recreation Coordinator, Supervisors, Referees, are not responsible or liable for injuries sustained while playing in a Greenville Recreation Volleyball League game. Neither the City, nor team managers carry any hospitalization and/or medical insurance

5 on the ball players. By playing in the volleyball league and signing the league rosters, the players in their own right whose name appears on the team roster waive any claim or action. FIRST AID ALL TEAMS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR FIRST AID OF THEIR PLAYERS. The Recreation Department, League Supervisor, or Officials will not be responsible for providing first aid. A player, coach or referee who is bleeding or who has blood on his uniform shall be prohibited from participating further in the game until appropriate treatment can be administered. If medical care or treatment is administered in a reasonable length of time, the individual will not have to leave the game. The length of time that is considered reasonable is left to the referee s judgment. The referee shall: o Stop the game and allow treatment if the injured player would affect the continuation of the game. o Immediately call the supervisor to the injured player. o Apply the rules of the game regarding substitution. X. AWARDS The awards will be as follows in the 2016 season: League and Tournament Champions will receive T-shirts
