Senior midfielder Raisa Strom-Okimoto connected on a 30-yard shot, beating the BGSU goalkeeper for the game-winner. While losing a large percentage of the roster from a year ago, 11 letter winners return, including eight student-athletes who made starts in The Rainbow Wahine haven t faced off with Montana since 2014, while the most recent matchup with Arizona State was last season, each of the two matches were won by UH. Montana is coming off a season in 2017 and was knocked out in the first round of the Big Sky Conference tournament, 2-1 to Northern Colorado. UM dropped its first two matches of the 2018 season with a 1-0 loss to Fresno State on Aug. 17, followed by a 2-0 defeat by San Francisco, both matches at home. ASU wrapped up 2017 at , including a mark in Pac-12 play. 2 2018 HAWAII RAINBOW WAHINE WOMEN S SOCCER GAME NOTES SHE S A LITTLE DRAMATIC -- Senior midfielder is known to have a flair of dramatic in her style of play. Through the duration of her career, she has notched five game-winning goals. She started off 2018 with a match winner in overtime against Bowling Green, but in 2017 she did the same thing as two of her three goals came in overtime matches against Fairfield and Arizona State. Of her five-game winners, four have occurred in August, the fifth was on Sept. 1st of 2016 NO LOVE FROM THE BIG WEST -- For the third consecutive season, UH was picked to finish ninth in the Big West by the league s head coaches in the annual preseason poll. GATEKEEPER EXTRADOIRNAIRE -- Redshirt-Junior goalkeeper Alexis Mata was one of if the not the brightest start to shine in The sophomore was skipped in all-conference selections, finishing first in saves with 96 and notching the Big West third highest save percentage at.780. Her 96 saves was the third most saves recorded in single season in the history of the program. INTAMATE ROSTER -- The 2018 roster is made up of 23 student athletes, three of which who will not see the playing field due to injury or NCAA transfer regulations. Of the 20 remaining on the roster, three are goalkeepers, leaving 17 active players who may see playing time in A LEGEND ON THE ISLAND OF O AHU -- Head coach Michelle Nagamine will begin her eigth season as the head coach of the Rainbow Wahine. Nagamine is notorius for her years as one of the winning coach s in Hawai i high school history winning five state titles, six Interschlastic League of Hawai i titles. During her time as UH she has gone (.385). PRESEASON ALL-BIG WEST HONOR -- Strom-Okimoto is a returning All-Big West selection from 2017 and a 2018 All-Preseason selection. In 2017 she started all 17 macthes, finishing second on the team with three goals while leading the team in shots on goal. DO I KNEW THEM? ARE THEY NEW? -- For the second consecutive season UH will welcome in a large freshmen class, in 2017 the roster held 10 true freshman, while 2018 will also have 10, and additional transfer to make the incoming class a total 11 student-athletes. In the first two games of the season, eight freshmen have played minutes for UH, including four freshmen starting both contest. FRESHMEN CREDENTIALS -- Each freshman enters their collegiate career with their own form of accolades. However four stick out on this year s squad. Forward Daelenn Tokunaga finished her high school career as one of the most prolific scorers in Hawai i high school history at Pearl City High School with 80 goals over four years. Midfielder McKenzie did not lose a single-mtach during her four year high school career at Santaigo High School in Corona, California.
