3 VIII. Rules and Regulations A. The National Federation of High School (NFHS) volleyball rules will govern play unless addressed by rules added by PISD. B. Roster Checks can be made only if requested by a team captain either during a game or immediately after. The League supervisor is responsible for this. If an ineligible player participates in a game/match, the game/match will be forfeited. C. Abusive language and unsportsmanlike conduct WILL NOT be tolerated! The officials will give a warning and a time-out called against the team receiving the warning. It is the captain s responsibility to control their teammates as well as their fans. A further warning will result in forfeiting THE MATCH! Teams that continue to display behavior that is not conducive to good sportsmanship will forfeit all remaining games and the entry fee will not be refunded. Teams may be subject to a warning if unsportsmanlike behavior occurs when the match is over. The warning will be assessed to the next match played, even if it is the following week. D. Games will be to 25 points using rally scoring where a team must win by 2 points with a 30-point cap. Matches will be the best 2 out of 3 games with each match limited to 45 minutes. The next point scored (1POINT SUDDEN DEATH) will determine games that are tied at the end of the forty-five minute time. A match that is tied (1 game to 1 game) at the end of the time limit will be determined by a three point tiebreaker. Teams may stay on the court and play for fun at the completion of the match, but they must give the court to the next teams for a 5-minute warm-up. E. Ten (10) minutes after scheduled time for the match (or completion of the preceding match) the first game of the match will be a forfeit if a team does not show up with a minimum of five (5) players. Twenty (20) minutes after the designated start time, the match will be forfeited. Teams with less then (5) five players, may use the court and play for fun until the official determines to start the next match. If the match has been forfeited, a team can pick up other players to play for fun. IX. General Playing Rules A. Team rosters should consist of 8-12 players. There will be Six (6) on the floor at all times; at least three must be women. With the approval of the supervisor, a team can play with 5, but TWO MUST BE WOMEN. A team may not compete with less then 5 people. B. Teams that start with 5 players, must set the rotation and determine the vacant position. If the 6 th player arrives, they must enter the game in the designated position. C. Positions on the court should be alternating-man, woman, man, woman, etc. D. Substitutions must be man for man and woman for woman. If there are not enough players, a woman may substitute for a man. PLEASE NOTE: There are NO offensive formations or player rotations after the ball is served. Revised

4 E. If a ball is touched more than one time by a team, a woman must make one of the touches. If the ball is hit simultaneously by a man and women, this will satisfy the woman touch. F. If the ball hits the net, either during play or on a SERVE, the ball is playable. G. For RECREATIONAL, NO HARD DRIVIN, DOWNWARD HITS ARE ALLOWED IN FRONT OF THE 10 FOOT LINE. This call is for the official to make. The captain can not dispute it. This is a judgement call and not open for debate, question, or replay. H. Blocking is allowed at the net as long as no part of the body breaks the vertical plane of the net. Simultaneous blocks are playable by either player and does not count as one of the team s three hits. Touching the net is a violation and a point is awarded. I. For RECREATIONAL, serving can be under hand only. No overhand or sidearmed serves are allowed. J. For COMPETITIVE, there will be overhand serving, offensive/defensive positioning, and spiking (with men spiking BEHIND the 10 foot line). X. Final Notes A. Please be aware that the campus is not charging us to use their facilities, so we need to remember we are guests. There should ONLY be bottled water. No food is allowed in the gyms, that includes gum and candy. Please make sure all trash and empty containers are thrown in the trash cans provided. B. Space is limited, so please discourage bringing children unless there is someone to watch them. C. NO BLACK-SOLED shoes are allowed. D. THE GAME SUPERVISORS ARE IN CHARGE OF THE LEAGUE AND ARE OPERATING UNDER THE DIRECTION OF THE DISTRICT SUPERVISOR AND THE CAMPUS ADMINISTRATION. GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP IS A PREREQUISITE. Please make sure your team members understand this. The intent is to give employees of the district and their spouses a place to play volleyball for exercise and entertainment ONLY! The entry fee in non-refundable if a team is asked to stop participating. DISCLAIMER: Employees are not required to participate. This program is voluntary, and P.I.S.D. cannot be held responsible in case of injury or accident. All precautions have been put in place to ensure the safety of each participant.
