Both matches will begin at 7 p.m. in the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. USU is 6-2 at home this season and 3-2 at home in league play. SERIES HISTORY Utah State is 5-12 all-time against Cal Poly and 4-30 alltime against UC Santa Barbara. USU defeated the Mustangs earlier this year on the road in three games (32-30, 30-27, 30-24), and lost to the Gauchos on the road in five games (37-39, 21-30, 32-30, 30-24, 10-15). The Aggies are 2-7 alltime at home against Cal Poly and 1-10 all-time at home against the Gauchos. USU has won four of the last seven meetings against Cal Poly, but has lost five straight matches to the Gauchos. The only time USU defeated UCSB at home was on Sept. 30, 2000 in three games. The last time the Aggies defeated Cal Poly at home was on Sept. 29, 2001 in four games. SCOUTING CAL POLY Cal Poly is on the season and currently in eighthplace in the Big West Conference with a 4-9 league record following a pair of losses to Pacific and Cal State Northridge last weekend. The Mustangs are led by sophomore outside hitter Vanessa Gilliam who is hitting.281 on the season. As a team, CP is hitting.201 on the year, while its opponents are hitting.192. The Mustangs, who are 2-6 on the road this season, return three starters and four letterwinners from last year s team that went on the season and finished in third-place in the Big West Conference with a 13-5 record. SCOUTING UC SANTA BARBARA UC Santa Barbara is ranked 19th in the country in the latest AVCA/USA Today Coaches Poll with a 15-6 record and is in first-place in the Big West Conference with an 11-2 league mark. The Gauchos have won five straight matches including a pair of wins over Cal State Northridge and Pacific last weekend. UCSB is led by freshman middle blocker Olivia Waldowski who is hitting.389, while sophomore middle blocker Megan Blackshire is hitting.371. The Gauchos are hitting.249 as a team, while its opponents are hitting.222. UC Santa Barbara, which is 6-4 on the road this season, return four starters and nine letterwinners from last year s team that went 30-3 and finished in first-place in the Big West with a perfect 18-0 record. AGGIES AT HOME Utah State has been very good at home over the last fourplus years, recording a (.740) record, which includes a 6-2 mark this year. Against Big West opponents, USU is (.692) over that same time period. NEXT WEEK Utah State will play its final two road league games of the season at UC Riverside on Fri., Nov. 14 and at Cal State Fullerton on Sat., Nov. 15. OH 5-11 Broken Arrow, Okla./Broken Arrow HS Head Coach: Burt Fuller Assistant Coaches: Emerson Salonga, Heather Olmstead RECAPPING LAST WEEKEND Utah State went 1-1 last weekend with a four-game win at UC Irvine (30-17, 30-24, 20-30, 30-28) and a fourgame loss at Long Beach State (27-30, 30-23, 26-30, 20-30). Against the Anteaters, sophomore Zuzana Cernianska led Utah State with 23 kills and hit.500 with only two attack errors. Freshman Beth Hodge added 17 kills and seven digs, while senior Erin Cartwright-Davis had 11 kills, 15 digs and five blocks. Freshman Mari Ruddick also had a nice match with 12 kills and five blocks. USU hit a blistering.335 in the match, while UC Irvine hit.272. Against the 49ers, Cartwright-Davis had a team-high 19 kills to go along with eight digs and six blocks, while sophomore Ingrid Roth added 10 kills and a team-high eight blocks. Ruddick also had 10 kills in the match to go along with six digs and six blocks, while Hodge added 12 kills. Freshman Dominique Arsenault led USU on defense with 12 digs. The Aggies hit.196 in the match, while LBSU hit.209. AGGIES AMONG CONFERENCE LEADERS As of Oct. 27, Utah State is fifth in the Big West Conference in hitting at.240. USU is leading the league in assists (15.62) and kills per game (17.12), and is sixth in the league in blocks per game (2.42). Individually, junior setter Andrea Delsigne is leading the league in assists per game (13.67), while senior Erin Cartwright-Davis is sixth in kills per game (4.73), seventh in hitting (.309), and eighth in blocks per game (1.18). Sophomore Zuzana Cernianska is also among the league leaders as she is fifth in kills per game (4.76). DELSIGNE AMONG THE BEST IN THE COUNTRY Junior setter Andrea Delsigne is having an outstanding season for Utah State and her numbers confirm it. As of Oct. 27, Delsigne is tied for sixth in the country in assists per game (13.67). As a team, Utah State ranks sixth in the country in assists per game (15.62) and seventh in kills per game (17.12). MOVING UP THE CHARTS Senior middle blocker Erin Cartwright-Davis continues to climb the charts in several career statistics at Utah State. As of Nov. 2, Cartwright-Davis is currently third all-time at USU in kills (1,194), third in attacks (2,723), second in total blocks (323), fourth in solo blocks (55), third in block assists (268), and third in hitting percentage (.279). Junior setter Andrea Delsigne is also climbing the career assists list as she now has 1,919 career assists which ranks sixth all-time at USU. AGGIES RETURN FIVE STARTERS Utah State returns five starters from last year s team that went on the season and finished in a tie for seventh-place in the Big West Conference with a 7-11 league mark. Senior outside hitter Erin Cartwright-Davis was named first-team all-league, while sophomore opposite side hitter Zuzana Cernianska was named Co- Freshman of the Year in the Big West. The other three starters returning for USU are senior libero Taubi Neves, junior setter Andrea Delsigne and sophomore middle blocker Ingrid Roth. Pronunciation Guide Dominique Arsenault Are-sah-no CARTWRIGHT-DAVIS NAMED BIG WEST PLAYER OF THE WEEK Senior middle blocker Erin Cartwright-Davis was named the Big West Conference Player of the Week on Oct. 20 after having a career weekend. Zuzana Cernianska Chairn-yun-ska Against Cal State Fullerton, she recorded a career-high in kills (33) and Andrea Delsigne Del-seen digs (25) and hit.338 in the match. Two nights later against UC Riverside Marijana Kordic Mirror-e-ana Core-ditch Ana Mirkovic Ah-nah Mirror-coe-vich she had another outstanding match as she hit a career-high.667 with 17 Taubi Neves Tau-bee (rhymes with Pow) Kneevs kills on 24 attacks with only one error. For the week, she averaged 6.25 Emerson Salonga Sa-long-a kills, 4.12 digs and 0.50 blocks per game while hitting.427 ( ). Kelsi Thoman Toe-man CERNIANSKA NAMED CO-BIG WEST PLAYER OF THE WEEK Sophomore Zuzana Cernianska was named the Co-Big West Player of the Week after earning Most Valuable Player honors at the 2003 Ogden Marriott-Weber State Classic on Sept. 2 as she hit.367 and averaged 5.20 kills per game. She shared the award with Kelly Wing of UC Irvine. AGGIES VERSUS RANKED OPPONENTS Utah State is now 0-4 on the season versus ranked opponents after losing to #19 UC Santa Barbara in five games, #20 Pacific in three games, #14 Kansas State in four games and to #2 Hawai i in three games. Last year, USU was 0-5 versus ranked opponents and over the last three-plus season, Utah State is 7-25 versus Top-25 teams. The last time USU defeated a ranked opponent was in the first round of the 2001 NCAA Tournament when USU upset No. 19 Brigham Young in five games. 2

3 HEAD COACH BURT FULLER Entering his third season as head coach of the Utah State volleyball program, Burt Fuller is optimistic that the 2003 season will once again see the Aggies be one of the top teams in the highly competitive Big West Conference. During his first two years at USU, Fuller led Utah State to a record and a trip to the 2001 NCAA Tournament where the Aggies upset No. 19 Brigham Young to advance to the second round. In his inaugural year as a collegiate head coach, Fuller posted three wins against ranked opponents as the Aggies recorded their first victory against Pacific in 20 years to go along with two wins against Brigham Young, as USU posted its first win in Provo since the 1981 season to go along with the Aggies thrilling win against the Cougars in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Fuller also coached five all-league players during his first season at USU, which were the most honorees in school history. During the 2002 season, Fuller coached a first-team all-league player in Erin Cartwright, along with only the second Aggie ever to be named freshman of the year in the Big West in Zuzuana Cernianska. Furthermore, Fuller s record marks only the second time in school history that a first-year head coach has won at least 20 matches in a season, as he joined Annette Cottle, who went in her first season as a head coach during the 1982 season. His 12-6 league mark is also a best at USU for rookie coaches. Prior to taking the head coaching job at Utah State, Fuller spent seven seasons as an assistant coach at UCLA. During his seven years at UCLA, the Bruins went to the NCAA Tournament six times including a national runner-up finish in During his tenure, UCLA advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament twice and finished the 2000 season (his last) with a final national ranking of seventh. He coached 23 all-league selections and five All-American s at UCLA. As a collegiate head coach, he is (.571) overall. Year School Overall Conf.
