3 USTA PLAYER DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVES In 206, USTA Player Development has continued its evolution toward Team USA, to be even more inclusive and collaborative with the American Tennis Family to surround developing players, their coaches and families with the resources they need to maximize each players potential. Some top initiatives that launched and/or continued this year: Engaging former champions and top American players in the development of current American pros and juniors: Ivan Lendl continued to work with a group of junior boys, including 206 USTA Boys 8s National Clay Court champion Sebastian Korda. RESTRUCTURING THE USTA PLAYER DEVELOPMENT COACHING STAFF: Teams of coaches were created to focus on distinct groups of players professionals, collegians and juniors to provide private-sector coaches and programs with a more focused coaching resource. Martin Blackman General Manager Player Development Gil Reyes, Andre Agassi s longtime strength and conditioning coach, who has also worked with topflight players such as Angelique Kerber, Simona Halep, Fernando Verdasco and Caroline Wozniacki, has hosted several groups of American pro and collegiate players for training at his Las Vegas facility. Gil brings a unique skill set to bear as a Master Strength & Conditioning Coach and worldclass motivator and mentor. His contribution to Team USA has been dramatic and immediate. Mardy Fish continued his role coaching and advising men in the Top 00. Jay Berger Head of Men's Tennis Jose Higueras Director, Coaching Ola Malmqvist Head of Women's Tennis THE CREATION OF THE TEAM USA PRO DEPARTMENT: Team USA Pro was created within USTA Player Development s coaching structure to expedite players ascent into the Top 00. USTA es Tom Gullikson and Kathy Rinaldi were appointed to lead the men s and women s sides, respectively.
