1 Popup Circus Skills Risk Assessment Popup Circus Playtime Risk Assessment Hazard People at risk Action taken to reduce risk Things to note... Crash mats MUST be used at all times underneath the aerial rig. Apparatus must be tied away securely when a member of SC Crew is not available. All participants must be shown how to properly use equipment. One member of SC Crew to one apparatus at all times. Younger children must be 'held' on the apparatus by a member of SC Crew until they are deemed safe. Only one participant is allowed on one apparatus at a time. Page 2

Fire performer must perform, ideally, in a large outdoor space. If indoors, the organiser must provide a space free from overhanging material/props and know the area to be safe and well ventilated. Flooring must be flat and dry. Fire performer to stop any performance where they believe the space/floor is unsafe to perform. Organisers to ensure that the floor is suitable and dry ready for the performance. Injury due to public interference must remain at a safe distance at all times. Performance space must have barriers/fencing/something to create a 'performance space' for the public to visually understand the performance area. Children in the audience must be accompanied by an adult. Fire performer to stop any performance if a member of the public encroaches on the performance area. Event organiser must remain aware of the public incase such an event occurs. Injury due to costume Performer Fire performers must ensure that their costumes and accessories are suitable for the performance at all times, and not highly flammable. Wet towels and extinguishers to be kept at the side of the stage for ALL performances. Page 4
5 Injury due to prop falling/slipping Fire Performance Risk Assessment must remain at a safe distance at all times. Fire performer must be fully knowledgeable of the prop they are using. SC Crew to ensure there are no flammable substances within the performance space. Page 5
6 Aerial Performance Risk Assessment Aerial Performance Risk Assessment Hazard People at risk Action taken to reduce risk Things to note... Injury due to weatherrelated hazards (e.g. severe rain and slippery equipment, severe wind creating hazardous conditions for the aerial rig) SC Crew must ensure that weather conditions are suitable for an aerial performance, and cease performance at any time if the weather becomes hazardous for the fire performer or the public to continue. Injury due to inadequate or unsuitable space SC Crew must make a full assessment of the stage/space before any performance to ensure a suitable space is given. Aerial rig MUST be placed on a flat surface with no slopes or obstructions beneath the rig. Aerial performer to stop any performance they do not believe the space is safe at any time. Page 6

Performance space must have barriers/fencing/something to create a 'performance space' for the public to visually understand the performance area. Children in the audience must be accompanied by an adult. No member of the public should stand/sit within the circumference of the aerial rig, particularly when the aerial performance is taking place. Aerial performers must ensure that their costumes and accessories are suitable for the performance at all times, and not slippery or with excessive material hanging. Aerial performer to stop any performance if a member of the public encroaches on the performance area. Event organiser must remain aware of the public incase such an event occurs. All SC Crew are fully trained in health and safety of aerial performance and suitable clothing. Injury due to member of public falling SC Crew to ensure that the aerial apparatus is securely tied back at all times that it is not being used throughout an event to ensure no member of the public can gain access to 'hang' or 'climb' on it. Organisers to ensure that the aerial rig is behind fencing/barriers to convey to the public it is not to be encroached upon.
