4 Introduction The Organisers: The walk is being organised by the Majlis Ansarullah UK, elders of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association UK, which is the oldest established Muslim community of Great Britain having been set up in Origin: Our Association was founded in 1889 by Hadhrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad of Qadian India. He proclaimed to be the reformer whose advent had been foretold in various religious scriptures including the Bible. He believed in the peaceful dissemination of Islam through dialogue and reason. The Association's motto of 'Love for All, Hatred for None' epitomises this fundamental sentiment. AMA: The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is the oldest Muslim organisation in UK having been established in We also hold the distinction of building the first mosque in London in More recently, in 2003 we were able to build the largest mosque in Western Europe at Morden in Surrey. UK Membership: We have very large membership in the Morden and Wandsworth area and even thousands nationwide. All members are encouraged to participate in the walk. Therefore we expect over (2000) two thousand participants to join the walk. History: The Association has been holding these walks since Since its inception, So far we have raised over one million pounds for more than 115 UK based charities including Age UK, British Heart Foundation, Great Ormond Street Hospital, Humanity First, Save the children, Royal London society for Blind People, We are Macmillan Cancer support and many more. All organisers are unpaid volunteers and no administrative costs are deducted from the sponsorship money. EVERY PENNY RAISED GOES TO CHARITY. We support the causes that matter most to you: At time when many local and small charities are struggling to raise funds, the spiritual Head of the worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim community His Holiness Mirza Masroor Ahmad has directed the organisers of the walk to support more and more local charities to serve the most vulnerable people. GET INVOLVED: Nominations are invited from all local communities. This is your chance to nominate your charity to be one of the beneficiaries of the walk

13 Her Royal Highness Princess Anne The efforts made by these walks have been well received. Her Royal Highness Princess Anne awarded the Princess Royal Certificate of Thanks to the Association for its support to the Save the Children and in the foyer of the Great Ormond Street Hospital is a plaque acknowledging the contribution of the Association to its cause. It should be noted that though such expressions of gratitude are appreciated, the main objective for its members remain in serving those in need. Siobhain McDonagh MP for Merton & Mitcham Siobhain McDonagh MP for Merton congratulates Majlis Asarullah who organised this walk and said.. It is a mark of your faith and of your community that you choose to help and sponsor numerous charities that are not of your faith, that are not exclusively organised by yourselves and for all the friends of your community, it is a thing that really stands out in what you do.. I m really excited to hear how much you have raised and just who is going to benefit. (Charity Walk 2011) Worshipful Mayor of Merton Cllr. Gilli Lewis-Lavender Her worshipful Mayor of Merton expressed her views as below: We do not just want to sit back and do nothing and feel very comfortable in our own zone. We need to think outwardly and think of other people and that is what you have done today. You have made a real difference to many people. So thank you for what you have done and enjoy the rest of your day. Thank you. (Charity Walk 2011) Worshipful Mayor of Sutton Cllr. Gerry Jerome I know how hard the Ahmadiyya Community works to make the lives of those who are underprivileged much more bearable. I am very grateful that you have chosen to support so many charities and my own as well. (Charity Walk 2011) Royal London Society for Blind People On behalf of everyone at the Royal London Society for Blind People I would like to thank you for selecting us to be a beneficiary of the Muslim Peace Walk which took place on Sunday. A huge thank you for the cheque for 2000 which is very gratefully received. This will make a real difference to the blind and partially sighted people we work to support in London and the South East. Laura Hamer Events Coordinator London 13

14 Age Concern Merton Just a quick note to say thank you so much for all your hard work and excellent organisation for Sunday s walk: I thoroughly enjoyed being involved and we are extremely grateful that you were able to include us as a beneficiary. Our Chairman of Trustees will be writing to you formally, but I wanted to extend my personal thanks for the kindness and support shown. All our services are offered to all Merton residents over 50 we do hope that you will make sure that all your members know that they are welcome to use them. SueTickner Festival and Activities Coordinator Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity We would like to thank the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association UK for their generous support over the past 19 years and wish everyone taking part in the 2011 charity walk, the best of luck. We are extremely grateful for their donations, which are over 80,000. Great Ormond Street Hospital Children s Charity needs to raise 50 million every year to help rebuild and refurbish Great Ormond Street Hospital, buy vital equipment and fund pioneering research. The money raised from this event will help us continue to provide world class care to our very ill children and their families from across the UK and the world. Martin Harris (Senior Fundraising Executive) British Heart Foundation I just wanted to put something in writing to express my sincere thanks on behalf of the British Heart Foundation for the overwhelming sum of money raised on Sunday. I was thrilled, surprised and overwhelmed with the generosity of the many people who took part. Please pass these thanks on to everyone who helped organise the event and who gave so generously. Our little team was made very welcome and we thoroughly enjoyed meeting a wide range of people. The hospitality that was offered to us could not have been better, and I feel very humble when I think of the hours of organisation and commitment this has taken.
