1 PRO-FLEX Less load, more dynamics
2 CARBON Unique Pivot Technology and ankle torque deliver 27º ankle motion with progressive stiffness for a more physiological gait. Immediate adaptation to ramps, stairs and uneven surfaces increases walking ease, comfort and stability for daily activities. 3 carbon fiber blades and innovative Pivot Technology help generate 93% more peak ankle power than a conventional carbon fiber foot. New full effective foot length and footplate design contribute to a more natural plantar pressure from heel strike to toe-off than a conventional carbon fiber foot. 27 ANKLE MOTION MORE PEAK ANKLE POWER The dedicated Pro-Flex foot cover features a lightweight construction and a grippy sole for barefoot stability on wet or slick surfaces. The sandal clamping toe design allows easy use with flip flops and female users have the option to paint the toe nails. LIGHTWEIGHT foot cover included
3 Less load, more dynamics The list of potential co-morbidities affecting amputees is long. In particular, lower limb amputation can produce compromised gait dynamics that increase the load on the remaining joints. Perhaps unsurprisingly then, the incidence of knee osteoarthritis in lower limb amputees is 17 times higher for below-knee amputees than is for non-disabled people. In the case of diabetic or disvascular amputees, increased loads can also contribute to foot ulcers, potentially requiring additional surgery and re-amputation. The costs associated with these co-morbidities are substantial. In addition to the human cost of diminished mobility and increased pain, the financial cost can be equally high. Total knee replacement surgery is an expensive procedure, while the cost of amputating another limb is hugely significant in every sense. Clearly, technology that helps to significantly reduce the impact on a person s body is worth considering, both from a quality-of-life perspective and that of long-term healthcare costs. Pro-Flex provides a natural progression of the center of pressure moment on the contralateral limb. Both impact and knee-varus momentum are known contributors to OA in the knee. Multiply this reduction over a lifetime of steps and the potential health benefits are clear: by decreasing loads and improving dynamics, clinical outcome is optimised, and both individual and collective healthcare costs may be reduced. THE DATA 93 % increase in peak ankle power % increase in range of ankle motion 1 LEADS TO 11 % load reduction on the sound side 1 Sound Side Vari-Flex Pro-Flex A revolutionary next step in prosthetic technology. Össur has developed Pro-Flex, the world s first prosthetic foot to reduce the load on the sound limb by 11% compared to a traditional energy storing and return foot. Pro-Flex allows clinicians to deliver unmatched clinical excellence to their patients and it minimises the burden of living with an amputation. By reducing the load on the sound side and by closely mimicking a more physiological gait pattern, Pro-Flex enhances a dynamic life thus improving the overall health condition of the user. Pro-Flex combines an incredible 27 ankle motion and 93% more peak ankle power than a conventional carbon fiber foot; and a center of pressure that closely mimics natural biodynamics to deliver an 11% load reduction and a 15% reduction in knee varus & 15 % reduction in sound side peak external knee varus moment 2 1. Heitzmann DWW. et al; Evaluation of a novel prosthetic foot while walking on level ground, ascending and descending a ramp; Gait & Posture 42 (2015): S94-S95. Heitzmann DWW. et al; A novel prosthetic foot leads to increased ankle power and reduced sound side loads in trans-tibial amputees; Abstract, Oral Presentation at the AOPA National Assembly San Antonio, TX, USA, October 7-10, 2015; NOTE: Data only applies to the Pro-Flex foot.
4 PRO-FLEX Pro-Flex combines an incredible 27 ankle motion and 93% more peak ankle power than a conventional carbon fiber foot; and a center of pressure that closely mimics natural biodynamics to deliver an 11% load reduction and a 15% reduction in knee varus moment on the contralateral limb. Pro-Flex improves mobility by immediately adapting to ramps, stairs and uneven surfaces which increases walking ease, comfort and stability for daily activities. Pro-Flex XC delivers exceptional vertical compression and toe-off energy, plus a fluid, natural progression from heel strike to toe-off. 7 PRO-FLEX LP With Pro-Flex LP, users with longer residual limbs can finally experience full-height dynamics in a low profile foot. The secret lies in Pro-Flex LP s unique 3-blade design, which includes a reverse tapered mid-blade to help generate anterior flexion, plus a footblade that incorporates a full effective toe length and an anatomical split toe. This innovative design helps generate exceptional toe-off energy and a fluid, natural progression from heel strike to toe-off for a level of performance that approximates that of a conventional standard height foot.
