1 Volunteers & Participants: Kamloops 2017 Annual Santa Claus Parade SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 25 th - 11:00 AM Sharp! Theme: Canada 150+ Arrival: Staging Marshall will be onsite at 8:15am, Staging and Route Marshals are there to help - Ask & Heed Lineup begins anytime after 8:30am. If being judged be in place by 9am. If you are not being judged, arrive by 10:00am at the latest. (Parking a big rig will be easier if you come earlier) Judging: Judging takes place from 9:15am - 10:30am. In fairness to all who are ready on time, if you are not ready when the judges arrive you will not be judged. See Rules & Regulations sheet for judging criteria General Judging Categories o Santa - Larger & Commercial Floats (Yellow on map) o Novelty - Fun & Novel Floats/entries (Purple on map) o Elves - Kid related entries (Green on map) o Parade Star - Best of the Best Participant Parking: Participant Parking is at the parking lot at 5 th & St. Paul, behind the RCMP station- NEW as the Daily News lot may not be open! Do not drive down 3rd Avenue to drop people off. Bands or other large groups please car pool and use big parking lot on the corner of St. Paul Street and 5th Ave. Access using 5th Ave. Your vehicles can be left there for after-parade pickup. Any horse or car hauler trailers can park in the upper section of the church parking lot at 3 rd & Nicola. Amenities: Washrooms, Hot chocolate and coffee available at Starbucks at 3rd & Columbia, Motivo at 229 Victoria St, and the Double Tree Restaurant as well as other assorted coffee houses. Dispersal: The route starts at 2nd & St. Paul, flows along Victoria St., and crosses 6th Ave into the dispersal area. Dispersal will be in the 600 & 700 Block Victoria St. If you require: o 20 minutes or so to unload passengers, you will travel into the 600 block Victoria St and pull over to side o If you need to dismantle your float proceed to 700 block Victoria St and pull to right side. o Arrange to have single passengers proceed to the 700 block Victoria for pick up. Please Return Parade Award sign to Marshall at end of parade. Remember: Please decorate your vehicles; more decoration than advertising - Tow vehicles must be decorated too. People on the float or walking must be in costume, uniforms or as per your theme - not just street clothes. Eg: saddle blankets, vests, wrapped Christmas boxes, matching T s, use your imagination! Not just hats! This is for both aesthetic and marshalling identification purposes. See attached examples. ANY ITEMS GIVEN TO THE PUBLIC MUST BE HANDED OUT (NOT THROWN). 3 2017 SANTA CLAUS PARADE RULES & REGULATIONS 1. Entry fee and indemnity agreement must accompany entry form. If the form is sent electronically, the KCBIA must receive your entry fee within 5 business days. Cheque or money order payable to the Kamloops Central BIA. Cash, Visa, MC, Debit also accepted. Commercial Fee is $50; NO REFUND will be given for withdrawal or No Show. 2. No entry may depict Santa Claus and/or Mrs. Claus or Santa s float. 3. Instructions from Parade Marshals shall be obeyed at all times. 4. Floats Vehicles Tow Vehicles: Must be fully decorated in the festive Christmas theme - Music is encouraged. Single Passenger Vehicle entries will only be allowed under specific circumstances A skirt must cover the wheels within the bounds of safety. All riders and walkers are to be dressed in matching costumes, uniforms etc. to match the theme of the parade or their entry. No street clothes please! No open flame permitted Max. height is 13 ft 6 in. from the ground to avoid power lines. Goal of Parade is Entertainment NOT Advertising. 5. The first 75 entries that meet all of the requirements and the pre-approval of the committee will be accepted. 6. All large float entries shall have 2 people (one on either side) in uniform or costume or visi-vests, to walk with the float, as a safety precaution for encroaching children. 7. Distribution of literature flyers, canvassing or asking for donations is prohibited. 8. Any handouts must be pre-approved by the Committee and are NOT TO BE THROWN from the floats. (Placed hand to hand only). Don t try to give to everyone it is just impossible! There is lots of candy to go around. DO NOT HOLD UP THE PARADE FOR HANDOUTS. Walkers must keep up with their unit OR let it go forward and let others pass. Walkers MUST be in costume or uniform. This helps the marshals identify parade participants. 9. All animal entries must have a costumed person following behind with clean-up equipment 10. All parade entries for judging will be judged prior to the start of the parade. BE READY BY 9:15 AM FOR JUDGING. Award categories: Parade Star -- Best Band Award -- 1 st, 2 nd, & 3 rd for Santa, Novelty and Elves categories Judging criteria: General effect in presentation Workmanship--Originality & Creativity Music---Entertainment Value 11. Walking groups must have uniforms or coordinated costumes and any performance must be in a forward moving/marching routine. No child under 8 years old will be allowed to walk in the parade unless they are part of an organized group and can maintain the pace of the parade. 12. The Parade Marshals may reject any entry that is declared not suitable for the parade or phone confirmation of entries will be done as they are received and accepted.
