A collaborative of 40+ diverse organizations, led by the leaders of the top diversity engineering societies Utilizes a Collective Impact framework o An evidence-based approach that informs decision-making, program improvements and scaling, sharing of information, and collective action driven by coalition members Works together to achieve the bold national goal of producing 50,000 diverse engineering graduates annually by The 50K Coalition is not a program, but a Collective Impact collaboration of engineering associations, colleges and universities, agencies, corporations, and foundations that work toward a common agenda by leveraging their distinctive missions, relationships, and institutional memory

20 The 50K Coalition s Journey to Date The Executive leadership teams of NSBE, SHPE, and SWE meet at SWE Headquarters in Chicago IL to discuss the national landscape of Black, Hispanic and female engineering baccalaureate degree recipients. The United Engineering Foundation (UEF) commits to funding. The 50K Coalition is formed during 1 st annual convening. Members agree on a Common Agenda & Shared Measurement Metrics The National Science Foundation selects the 50K Coalition as one of the 37 national launch pilots that represent bold, innovative ways for solving a broadening participation challenge in STEM." July Feb June Sep Jan Oct Apr. 20 Apr. 21 Sept. 12, 2016 The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) on behalf of The 50K Coalition Leadership Circle, submits a grant proposal to the United Engineering Foundation (UEF). The American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) joins the 50K Coalition Leadership Circle. The 50K Coalition Advisory Board is formed. The 50K Coalition s Comprehensive Strategy is approved by the Leadership Circle. 21

21 The 50K Coalition s Journey to Date 50K Coalition members approve Strategic Plan. The 50K Coalition members engage in 1:1 meeting discussions to refine their organizational project plans. The 50K Coalition website is launched! Ongoing ANGs meetings to develop and implement strategies. 50K Coalition members continue to fine-tune their programs aligned to the 50K common agenda. 50K Coalition Data Council is organized. Aug. Nov Feb , 2017 April 26 27, 2017 Oct. 4, 2106 Jan.- March 2017 March 30, 2017 May Oct K Coalition members submit their organizational project plans that are aligned with the 50K s common agenda and shared measurement metrics. The 50K Coalition Leadership and Advisory Board meet at NSBE World Headquarters in Alexandria, VA to review the progress of the 50K Coalition s comprehensive strategy. The 2 nd annual convening of the 50K Coalition is held at the National Press Club in Washington, DC. Coalition members organize themselves into Action Network Groups (ANG). 22

22 50K Coalition Action Network Group Goal Develop STRATEGIES which may include the following: Better understanding the current situation: aligning or overlaying existing data sets or systems with one another. Learning by trial: identifying an opportunity to start small with willing partners, learn from the experience, and then expand or replicate. Increasing coordination: finding ways to realign existing programs, protocols, and stakeholders to work together differently to maximize efficacy. Enhancing services: adopting a previously unnoticed proven practice from inside or outside the community to enhance existing services or programs. Identifying policy-change opportunities: looking for opportunities at local, state and/or federal levels and relaying these to the Leadership Circle. 23
