It is a university level techno-cultural fest, proposed to be held annually, by Rajasthan Technical University, Kota. THAR commits to provide a platform to young engineers and managers of Rajasthan to showcase their creativity, innovation. It also provides a framework for interaction between students and leaders of corporate sector, influential scientists, celebrities and, ofcourse, the experienced faculty of RTU Kota. I am sure that THAR-2015 will be a grand success and extend my good wishes to all. 1

4 ABOUT RTU Rajasthan Technical University (RTU) is located on the banks of river Chambal in Kota in the state of Rajasthan. The University was established in Campus life of RTU, Kota is marked with plethora of academic ceremonies, official occasions and community programs which are an indispensible part of the institution. These events are organized annually to unite our vast and diverse technical community together. RTU affiliates 183 colleges and B.Tech courses in various streams of engineering are offered at nine government aided institutes and 109 private colleges. MBA course is available at seven government aided institutes and 122 private institutes. MCA course is also offered at seven government aided institutes and 25 private institutes. M.Tech is offered in 24 colleges and BHMCT in four colleges. In addition, two colleges offer Bachelor Of Architecture (B.Arch) degrees. 2

5 About THAR THAR 15 is the first annual University level Techno-Cultural fest initiated by Rajasthan Technical University, Kota. The idea of this Fest is conceived with the aim to provide the young, energetic youth, a platform at the University level where their talent, expertise and creativity will be recognized and duly rewarded. The Fest will cover a wide range of events encompassing every genre of art, technology and management with the aim to infuse a scientific and rational temperament in the young minds. Culminated in a two day extravaganza, the fest is organizing a series of challenging competitions, curiosity triggering demonstrations and interesting lecture series and mega-shows. The sumptuousness of THAR will set a milestone in the journey of events and promises to surpass all the inceptions of technology and entertainment. It is geared up to scale new feats and reach for the zenith. STRUCTURE OF FEST This Fest is first of its kind ever to be organized by RTU. It will see the participation of all Engineering colleges of Rajasthan coming under a common gathering of this FEST. PROPOSED SCHEDULE (Tentative) S. No. Level FEST schedule 1. College Level To be organized between 15 th -28 th Feburary2015 by the colleges. 2. Zonal Level To be organized at zonal level during 12 th - 14 th March 2015 at zonal centers. 3. University Level To be organized at university level during 19 th and 20 th March 2015 at RTU campus. 3

6 In the preliminary stage all the affiliated colleges will hold individual technical and cultural fests, winners of the competitions held at the college level will take part in subsequent competitions to be held at the zonal level for both cultural and Tech-Fest both winners of zonal level will take part in the final competitions to be held at the University level. Zonal fests will be held at 12 zonal centers list of zonal fest centers and list of the events will be mailed as well as uploaded well in advance to the participating colleges by the organizing committee. 8 Technical Competitions T1) Aviation the flying challenge An aircraft is defined as an object that unites the four forces of flight: namely lift, drag, weight (gravity) and thrust due to propeller acting on it at any point of time. Applying the superb, creative and self-trained knowledge of engineering, man changed the persistent vision of human flight with the invention of aircrafts. That was a fundamental turning point in human history. AVIATION the flying challenge calls upon all engineering mind to participate in this thrilling and exhilarating competition. Use all your whacky ideas, design and innovation and let your imagination take flight. The team consists of maximum 4 members Machine Specifications The RC aircraft can be built or bought. The use of IC engines is prohibited. Only electrical motors are allowed. The maximum wingspan allowed is 1500 mm. Use of gyroscopes (gyros) is prohibited. 6

9 Rules: Competition Rules A maximum time of 20 minutes will be given to complete the task The timer will start from the moment the aircraft is in the air. One of the team members should fly the aircraft and another should elaborate the activity as and when they are performed (just before). General Rules Radios: The use of 2.4 GHz radio is required for all aircraft competing in the competition. Metal Propellers Prohibited: Metal propellers are not allowed. Note: Extra 5 points will be given to the teams for building their own aircraft College/ Zonal Level (Note: Interested teams at college level are advised to submit their willingness to participate in this competition to register them with University office through rtuthar@gmail.com latest by Feb 28 th, In case of less registration at zonal level this event will be held in University Level only. ) Description of the event The competition will require the teams to perform a set of activities in two rounds. The points will be awarded on the basis of the number of activities they perform, and on the smoothness and accuracy of the performed activities. Time Duration: 20 min. Knife hedges Inside loop You will have to rotate the plane 90 degrees (perpendicular to the ground) from the axis of the plane and then come back to its previous position. A vertical circle entered from straight and erect level flight. A positive pitching movement is used at all points in the loop to draw the circle so that the airplane canopy is pointing inwards. Both the inside and outside loops are sometimes casually referred to Model jumps from the ground Marks will be deducted if the rotation is not proper 90 degrees. 11 Flight Trials Task Description Downgrades as loop the loop. Barrel Roll (360Roll) Spot landing A combination of a loop and roll. The flight path during a barrel roll has the shape of a horizontal corkscrew and follows a helical path. The plane should land in a specified area. Marks will be deducted if plane does not rotate 360 degrees. If the aircraft does not land in a specified area. University Level All the winners of 12 zones will take part in this. 12 Description: Flight Trial Task Description Downgrades Inverted flight An aircraft is in inverted flight when it has rotated 180 degrees about its longitudinal axis so that its cockpit and tail point towards the ground. Marks will be deducted if the angle is not close to 180 degrees. Cuban Eight The Cuban eight is a combinational move involving both regular and inverted flight. Marks will be deducted if the stunt performed is not as same as shown in the figure. Outside loop A vertical circle entered from straight and erect level flight. The loops are not round Exit not at same altitude and heading as the entry The spin The airplane flies vertically downwards while rotating about its longitudinal axis. Marks will be deducted if the plane does not rotate properly. A maximum time of 15 minutes will be given to complete the task. Note: Extra 5 points will be given for building their own aircraft. 10

14 T2) CODE-BLOCKS If it s bug free, it s time to make changes Technology, the knack of so arranging the world that we don t have to experience it. First we thought that PC was a calculator. Then we found how to turn numbers into letters with ASCII and we interpreted it as a typewriter and with World Wide Web, we've realized that it's a brochure. Presenting Code-Blocks, whose aim is to provide a platform for the budding computer science enthusiasts like you, to showcase your technical brilliance in the same field. The event will help the computer zealot to test their technical as well as soft skills. On the other-hand fresher will get a chance to be introduced to the application world. Eligibility criteria-pursuing UG in technology stream and open to all branches. Cross these three rounds on Zonal as well as University Level and grab the title of Computer Freak : Round 1: Computing Extempore Clock, a device of great moral values to man, allaying his concern for the future by reminding him what amount of time remains for him. But here, time limit for you is set, so keep calm and say out all the stuff you know according to the topic. You ll be given a topic related to some of the trending technologies, like plug-ins, GCC, Ethernet etc. for an impromptu talk of not more than a minute. Judging Criteria - Marks will be awarded as per your expressiveness, presentation and accuracy of knowledge about that topic. So give best shot to your soft skills as well! Round 2: Mind-Bender Our laptops and smart phones are so close to us. Are we the same for them? Let s check this out in Round 2 through a quiz (offline for Zonal/ online for University level) involving aspects like - Application/website development and designing OS (Windows, Linux, Android etc.) IT companies and their products Debugging code snippets Real life applications of C, Java etc. 12

15 MCQ s as well as short answer type questions will be asked. Judging Criteria - Marks will be awarded for each correct answer. No negative marking will be done at Zonal level while university level will involve negative marking. Round 2 will be more advanced in terms of toughness of the questions at University level than at Zonal level. Round 3: Code-Spark Do you find interesting to solve problems via certain logic? Maybe you will need certain steps to decipher that logic? Those certain steps, i.e. algorithms will be the core of this round. Zonal level Code the given problems offline on the provided software, with the best possible productive method, in C language. University level Rise up and fight against some astonishing competitors in the battlegrounds of the Code-Blocks, with your skills as your weapon and some tricky questions as your objective. This time questions will be judged by an online judge and codes in languages C, C++ & Java will be accepted. Judging Criteria - All the problems will have some points allotted to them. Users will be ranked according to their marks obtained. Ties will be broken on the basis of the total time taken by the participants to complete the contest along with some penalties for wrong submissions. 16 T3) CRAZY STRUCTURE (Popsicle Stick Bridge Competition) Objective:- This event is designed as a fun way for engineering students to develop engineering skills through critical thinking, problem solving, teamwork and creativity. It allows students to have an outlook into the civil engineering profession and introduces them to some of the challenges and triumphs that civil engineers face in their careers. We hope that this competition sparks each student s interest in civil engineering and opens new doors for their pursuit of math, science and engineering-related careers. Mission To provide an exciting, challenging, and educational experience to the students, through hands-on activities, to the many wonders of civil engineering as a profession. Overview:- As a participant in Popsicle Stick Bridge Competition, you will be working with a team (two to four students) on the design and construction of a model bridge made solely from common wooden craft sticks and all-purpose white school glue (refer to the Rules section for the complete list of requirements).your objective is to build the strongest bridge, that is to say, the bridge that will hold the largest applied load before failure. Teams will be awarded points based on their bridge s performance according to four different categories of the competition (Strength, Workmanship, Presentation and Technical Report). At the end of the competition, all points will be tallied and compared to the scores of all the competing teams. There are a total of 100 points in this competition. The 100 points will be distributed as follows: Strength [75 points]: Awarded to the team, prior to failure whose bridge will be able to support the greatest load-to-weight ratio. Workmanship [5 points]: Awarded to the team whose bridge appears to be the most professional-looking to judges and shows a high level of craftsmanship Presentation [10 points]: Awarded to the team that presents their bridge in the most creative and professional manner. 14

17 Technical Report [10 points]: Awarded to the team with the best technical report describing the design and construction phases of their bridge. If there is a tie between the teams, then winning team will be selected as follows (PERFOMANCE RATING=LOAD AT FAILURE /SELF WT.) Awards will be given to the teams that are ranked first, second and third in overall score as well as in the individual categories. Please review the following rules carefully to make sure that your bridge, report, display, and oral presentation comply with all of them. Teams Each college may enter up to four teams, consisting of two to four students per team. All members of a team must be from the same college. Students may not be members of more than one team. Each team may submit only one bridge for competition. Bridge Materials Only white all-purpose glue may be used to hold together all bridge elements. All bridge elements must be made of common wooden craft sticks (standard size: 41/2 x 3/8 x 1/12 ). Allowed tolerances = +1/16 length, + 1/16 width, and + 1/48 thickness. ALL MATERIAL WILL BE PROVIDED BY OUR TEAM AS EVENT KIT NOTE: - Bridge Dimensions The entire bridge must fit within a box of 55cm long, 10 high and 5 wide. Prior to loading, no part of the bridge should extend above the bridge size. 15

18 The bridge must span a 45 cm gap and fit within the specified clearance envelope. We recommend that the bridge be at least 55 cm long to avoid falling through the 45cm gap when tested. Bridges shall not be designed to transfer lateral (sideways) load onto the supports. Bridge roadway must be continuous, flat, and level. There should be no gaps between the sticks on the roadway. Traffic (toy truck) should be able to roll across the bridge unimpeded. The bridge must weigh not more than 300gm. Bridge Construction Bridges must be constructed prior to arrival at the competition; no modifications will be allowed after registration. No more than 50% of a planar side of a stick may be glued to other sticks (i.e. 50% of Each side of all sticks must remain unglued). 50% Rule Restrictions Stick Alteration (Rule violations: Bridges found in violation of the 50% Rule will be awarded 0 points for strength.) Oral Presentation May not be more than 5 minutes long. Every team member must speak during the presentation. 16

19 Testing of strength Finally, on the day of the event, your team will have to give a five (5) minute oral presentation summarizing the entire bridge building experience to a panel of judges. The following questions should be addressed during your presentation: How was the design of the bridge chosen? What construction sequence was used? What was the most difficult part of building the bridge? What lessons did you learn from the design and construction process? 20 T4) GRAVITON PROBLEM STATEMENT To build a vehicle, which through potential energy travels inclined down, then up & then is able to throw a projectile. GAME PLAY Teams have to place their machines on the top of wedge 1. It has to run down the wedge 1 and climb the wedge 2. After reaching the firing zonal, the machine has to fire the projectile. College/ Zonal Level ROUND 1:- A wedge will be provided. The vehicle has to run down the wedge. Marks will be allotted according to the horizontal distance measured. ROUND 2:- The vehicle has to run down the wedge 1 and climb the wedge 2. After reaching the horizontal extended zonal, the machine has to hit the block. Marks will be allotted according to the distance, which the block covers after collision with the vehicle. ROUND 3:- The vehicle has to run down the wedge 1 and climb the wedge 2. After reaching the horizontal extended zonal, it has to fire a projectile (Ball of diameter 1.5 ± 0.5 cm) by collision with a fixed obstacle. The marks will be allotted according to range covered. The team with the maximum points will be declared the zonal winner. 18

21 University Level Final Round At this level, there will be only one round. Each team is allowed a maximum of three attempts. Out of these three attempts, the best one will be considered. Teams have to place their machines on the top of wedge 1. It has to run down the wedge 1 and climb the wedge 2. After reaching the launching zonal, the machine has to fire the projectile (Ball of diameter 1.5 ± 0.5 cm). The vehicle must be completely autonomous, which means that the vehicle should stop in the launching zonal by itself and it should be able to launch the projectile by itself. The mechanism of the machine should be purely mechanical (i.e. no use of electrical component like sensors, battery etc. will be allowed) and the machine will have to stop automatically by a mechanical mechanism only. If the vehicle can t stop by itself, even in the extended launching zonal, a wall of height 4 cm will be provided at the end of the extended launching zonal on the request of a participant. ARENA 1. The arena will be same for both zonal and university level. 2. The course consists of a 40cm wide track. 3. It consists of 2 wedges. Wedge 1 has a horizontal base length of 110cm (out of which the leftmost 20 cm will be of starting zonal) inclined downward at an angle 20 o. Wedge 2 has a horizontal base length of 60cm inclined upward at an angle of 25 o followed by a 40cm long horizontal extended launching zonal. 4. The two wedges are separated by a horizontal flat space of 40cm. 5. The optimum launching zonal is on the wedge 2 depicted as the checkered area in figure, having slant length 45cm. (Only for university level) 6. The range of the projectile will be measured in slabs of 15cm, each of different color. 7. Each colour has different points. VEHICLE SPECIFICATION 1. The machine should be able to fit in a box of length and breadth of 15cm. 2. There is no restriction on the height of the machine. 3. Teams may use pulleys, springs, stored potential energy etc., but any device which runs by electrical power is strictly prohibited. 19

22 4. There should be no source of electrical power installed on the vehicle. 5. The vehicle must be completely autonomous, which means that the vehicle should stop on the launching zonal by itself and it should launch the projectile by itself. (Only for university level) 6. The mechanism of the machine should be purely mechanical i.e. no use of electrical component like sensors, battery etc. and the machine will have to stop automatically by mechanical mechanism only. (Only for university level) RULES 1. Maximum of 3 members per team is allowed and a maximum of 3 attempts will be provided. Best among these 3 will be considered. 2. In every attempt the front most of the vehicle will be placed it just touching the Starting line. 3. At the back of the vehicle there should be some mean (e.g. Hook) to tie up a string. And by cutting the string the vehicle will start to move down the wedge The vehicle should climb up to at least optimize launching zonal (checkered area) before launching the projectile. (Only for university level). 5. No human intervention is permitted once the machine is released. 6. External control (with any mechanism) of the vehicle during its operation is prohibited. 7. The machine should not damage the arena in any way. 8. In case the machine falls off the arena, then the team loses that chance (of attempts). 9. In case of a tie, the machine with the least weight will win. 10. In case of any inconsistency the decision of the organizing committee will be final and binding. MARKING SYSTEM (for zonal level) For first round 10. The teams will be given marks equal to the distance covered in centimeter divided by For second & third round The points are according to the range of the projectile. If projectile lands on a black coloured area, then 20 points will be awarded. If projectile lands on red coloured area, then 30 points will be awarded. If projectile lands on the green coloured area, then 50 points will be awarded. 20

23 If projectile lands on white coloured area, then 100 points will be awarded. If projectile lands on blue coloured area, then 150 points will be awarded MARKING SYSTEM (for university level) If the projectile is launched from the optimum launching zonal, the points are according to the range of the projectile. If projectile lands on black coloured area, then 20 points will be awarded. If projectile lands on red coloured area, then 30 points will be awarded. If projectile lands on green coloured area, then 50 points will be awarded. If projectile lands on white coloured area, then 100 points will be awarded. If projectile lands on blue coloured area, then 150 points will be awarded If the vehicle crosses the optimum launching zonal before launching the projectile, then the distance by which the front most of the vehicle has covered ahead of the optimum launching zonal, will be subtracted from the range of the projectile. And according to that new range marks will be decided. The machine after beginning from starting zonal should move down the wedge 1 travels the horizontal zonal and move up the wedge 2. The machine should come to a halt in the launching zonal on wedge 2 before launching the projectile. If the machine halts by itself, following points will be awarded as per the area in which the machine halts for launching the projectile. Optimum launching zonal: +200 points Extended launching zonal: points In case of the vehicle does not halt by itself before launching and the vehicle launches the projectile by colliding with the obstacle provided, no extra marks will be given. 20% marks will be awarded for design and innovation. In any case decision of the coordinators and the organizing team of UCE, RTU, KOTA will be final and binding to all. 21

25 T5) Junkyard Wars One man s trash is another man s treasure The true essence of being an engineer is the ability to be The Creator. An engineer can convert what a layman says as trash, into treasure. While our education system is only about Remember, Produce and Forget, here we provide you a platform to use your theoretical engineering knowledge creatively as a True Engineer. Limited resources, limited time and a unique problem to solve. That s what Junkyard wars is all about. This is an event where you will have to work for a couple of days as a team to create a mechanism from the materials given in the junk pile. Take this engineering challenge, and test your skills. All that you need to have is an idea Juggad from Kabbad. Put on your hats of creativity, get ready to mess up your hands and let the Let the battle of Trash begin!! College/ Zonal Level (Note: Interested teams at college level are advised to submit their willingness to participate in this competition to register them with University office through techthar@gmail.com latest by Feb 28 th, In case of less registration at zonal level this event will be held in University Level only. ) Round 1: Teams will have to assemble the junk materials into a car in a fixed time interval. A race of the assembled cars will decide the 8 entries for the next round. The track will have turns in which the car has to complete the race in fixed time. Round 2: In the second round, robots will compete in a soccer match (two at a time). Each team will be assigned a goal post and the aim of the round will be to land the ball in opponent s goal post. Teams will have to assemble the front part of their robot in such a way that it can hold and throw the ball making a goal. The team, which makes most goals in the given time interval wins the match. In case the game is tied, an extra 5 minutes time will be given to each team in which they have to score maximum number of goals in the absence of opponents robot. 23

26 Each game played will be an eliminator. Last four teams will play semi-final and then their winners will plat final. Maximum goal scoring team in each match will be declared the winner. Round 1: University Level University level will have a new series of events. Round I includes a quiz and an assembling skill test of total 100 marks. The quiz will be on the general application of engineering in machine making. 1) The quiz (50 marks) will be subdivided into two parts: a) Theoretical (25 marks) b) Practical (25 marks) In the theoretical round, viva voce will be used to assign marks. Teams will be asked general technical questions. In practical round, teams will be given some machines having minor faults. Teams will have to correct these faults in the given time interval. 24

27 2) Assembling skills round (50 Marks): In assembling skills test, participants will be made available with a fixed amount of junk materials to be assembled into an automobile in the given time interval. These automobiles will be run by the teams on the given track in the second round. Round 2: Round 2 will consist of a racing track. All the teams will have to run their automobiles (assembled in round 1) on the track provided. The track will consist of hurdles and turns in it. The team, which completes the track first will win the match. Rules: 1) Marks obtained in round 1 will be converted into seconds. 2) 100 marks = 5 seconds 3) In case a team scores 50 marks in Round 1 then these 50 marks (=2.5 seconds) will be reduced from that team s track racing time in round 3. Round 3: The third round will also include a soccer match between two robots. Each match will be of ten minutes. The ground used will consist of two goal posts. Each team will be assigned a goal post. Each team will have to assemble the front part of their vehicle in such a way that it can hold and throw the ball making a goal. The team which scores more goal in the given time interval wins the match. In case the game is tied, an extra 5 minutes time will be given to each team in which they have to score maximum number of goals in the absence of opponents robot. The team, which will score more goals in these five minutes will be declared the winner. Team Specification A team may consist of a maximum of 5 participants. During the match no participant is allowed to enter the arena of the fight. Team Name Every team must have a name which must be unique. Round 1: 1) This round will be an elimination round. 2) Robots have to cover the given track in minimum possible time. 3) Half of the teams will be selected for Round 2 based on their performances and robot specifications. Round 2: 1) Arena for this round is different from Round 1. 2) Only one team will be selected for University level from each zonal. PHASES IN THE EVENT ARENA SPECIFICATION: - 1) The width of the track will be 35 centimeters. 2) Tunnel length 1 meter. 3) Slop 30 degrees. RULES: 1) The robot will be started from the START position. 2) The robot, if required hand touch, will be placed on the previous checkpoint. 3) The hand touches will be done by the coordinator. 4) Only 5 hand touch can be done. If after 5 hand touch, the robot is not able to make it to the next checkpoint, then the robot will be disqualified. 28

Round 2: The winners of the first round will fight against each other in the second round. At a time 4 robots (selected rank wise, higher the points, the higher will be the rank) will fight against each other. Duration of each match will be 15 minutes. In this round, robots will have one active weapon installed in them. In this round arena will consist of a square pit near its one corner, two circular regions near its two sides (of arena). If any robot pushes it opponent in the circular regions provided on the boundaries of the arena, 5 points will be deducted for the robot entering or touching the circular regions. The target of the robot will be to push its opponent out of the arena. The time duration for the first round will be 15 minutes. Any type of weapon should not be installed on the robots in this round. Judging Criteria: In case any robot pushes its opponent in these strips, 5 marks will be deducted for the robot touching or entering these strips. Two team, which resides in the arena after the end of the given time duration will be considered as a winner. Round 2: Arena: 10x10 ft. sq. 3 ft. fencing around 10x10 arena. The match will be in 10x10 ft. sq. area. Circular regions of radius 20 cm. Pit of dimensions: 38x38 cm sq. The 8 teams selected after the first round will fight against each other in this (the second) round. Two groups of 4 teams will be made (randomly selected on the basis of lucky dip). In this round the arena will consist of a square pit at its one corner. Diagonally opposite to this corner there will be a circular region. At a time, two teams will fight against each other (of the same group). Target of each robot will be to push its opponent in the pit provided in the arena. Four teams will be selected (one from each group) from the second round for the next round. 34

37 Judging Criteria: In case any robot pushes its opponent in the circular region provided 5 points will be deducted for the robot entering the circular region or touching it. In case any robot makes its opponent inactive (motionless) by pushing it against the fencing for at least 10 seconds, 10 marks will be deducted for the motionless robot. The robot which remains in the arena, i.e. one which pushes its opponent in the pit will be considered as a winner. In case no robot falls in the pit, the winner will be announced on the basis of more points. Round 3: Arena: Same as in Round 2. The 4 selected teams of the second round will fight against each other in the third round. Teams can activate or install weapons in their robots. In case more than one robot survives at the end of the match, the winner will be considered on the basis of points. Rules 1. General Construction 1. Each robot must have at least an active weapon. 2. The fitting of interchangeable body panels or alternative weaponry is allowed before each round and must be retained till the end of the round. 3. During finals, any on-board equipment that could require attention between duels for maintenance - e.g. recharging of compressed gas cylinders, charging batteries, resetting of weapons, etc. should be easily and quickly accessible, i.e. systems must be installed in such a manner that they can be removed for filling and testing within five minutes. 2. Style All robots must have easily visible and controlled mobility in order to compete. Methods of mobility include: 1. Rolling (wheels, tracks or the whole robot). 2. Non-wheeled robots having no rolling elements in contact with the floor and no continuous rolling or cam operated motion in contact with the floor, either directly or via a linkage. Motion is "continuous" if continuous operation of the drive motor(s) produces continuous motion of the robot. Linear-actuated legs and novel non-wheeled drive systems come under this category. 3. Jumping, hopping and Flying (using airfoil, helium balloons, ornithopters, etc.) is not allowed. 36

39 3. Dimensions and Fabrications 1. The machine should fit in a box of dimension 35x35x35 cub. cm at the starting of the match. 2. The machine should not exceed 15kg, including the weight of pneumatic source/tank. 3. The weight of adaptors, battery and the remote control will not be counted. 4. Any machine component should not be detached (intentionally) during any point of the war. 5. Ready-made gear boxes, control circuits and remote control can be used. 4. Wiring Control Requirements The machine can be controlled through wired or wireless source. 1. The remotes to be used should have a minimum four frequency remote control circuit or two dual control circuits or a transmitter receiver paired module so that the frequency interferences with opposing team can be avoided (in case of any interference in the wireless systems, they will not be considered for a rematch). 2. Nonstandard or self-made remote control systems must first be approved by the organizers. 3. In case of wired bots, the wires should remain slack at any instant during the fight. All the wires coming out of the machine should be stacked as a single unit. Also, the wires should be projected 500mm above the ground to avoid entanglement. 4. Remote used can be wired or wireless. (Both Self Made, Ready Made not allowed.) 5. Battery and Power 1. The machine can be powered electrically. The use of batteries is also allowed. 2. Power supply has to be on-board. 3. Batteries must be sealed, immobilized electrolyte types (such as gel cells, lithium, NiCad, NiMH, or dry cells). 4. The electrical voltage at any point of time in the machine should not exceed 36 V DC. 5. All efforts must be made to protect battery terminals from a direct short and causing a battery fire, failure to do so will cause direct disqualification. 6. Use of damaged, non-leak proof batteries may lead to disqualification. 37

40 7. Change of battery will not be allowed during the match (exemption can be made in case of battery damage). 8. It is suggested to have an extra battery ready and charged up during competition so that on advancing to the next level, you don't have to wait or suffer due to uncharged battery. If teams don't show up on allotted slot, they will be disqualified. 9. Use of IC engine in any form is not allowed. 6. Pneumatics and Hydraulics 1. Participants can use pneumatic and hydraulic weapon systems, but use of external pressure/ liquid cylinders is not allowed. Cylinders should be placed on the bots. 2. The outlet pressure of the source/tank should not exceed 10 bars. 3. Robots can use pressurized, non-inflammable gases/liquid to initialize their pneumatic mechanisms. 4. The used pressure should be indicated by means of temporarily fitted pressure gauge or there should be a provision to measure the cylinder pressure on the bot. 5. The storage tank and pressure regulators used by teams need to be certified and teams using pneumatics are required to produce the Safety and Security letters at the Registration Desk at the venue. Failing to do so will lead to direct disqualification. 6. You must have a safe way of refilling the system and determining the on board pressure. 7. All pneumatic components on board of a robot must be securely mounted. Particular attention must be made to pressure vessel mounting and armor to ensure that if ruptured it will not escape the robot. The terms 'pressure vessel, bottle, and source tank' are used interchangeably. 7. Weapon System Robots can have any kind of cutters, flippers, saws, lifting devices, spinning hammers etc. as weapons with following exceptions and limitations: 1. Liquid projectiles. 2. Any kind of inflammable liquid. 3. Flame-based weapons. 4. Any kind of explosive or intentionally ignited solid or potentially ignitable solid. 5. Nets, tape, glue, or any other entanglement device. 6. High power magnets or electromagnets. 38

41 7. Radio jamming, lasers, tesla coils, or any other high-voltage device. 8. Tethered or un-tethered projectiles. Spinning weapons which do not come in contact with the arena at any point of time are allowed. In no case should the arena be damaged by any bot. 8. Safety 1. Compliance with all event rules is mandatory. It is expected that competitors stay within the rules and procedures of their own accord and do not require constant policing. 2. The machine would be checked for its safety before the competition and the team would be disqualified if their machine is found unsafe. 3. Participants are expected to abide by the rules & should co-operate with the organizers. 4. If you have a robot or weapon design that does not fit within the categories set forth in these rules or is in some way ambiguous or borderline, please contact the event organizers. Safe innovation is always encouraged, but surprising the event staff with your brilliant exploitation of a loophole may cause your robot to be disqualified before it even competes. 5. All participants will build and operate robots at their own risk. Combat robotics is inherently dangerous. There is no amount of regulation that can encompass all the dangers involved. Please take care to not hurt yourself or others when building, testing and competing. 9. Team Specification Any team can participate in Robo wars. A team may consist of a maximum of 5 participants. But during the match no participant is allowed in the arena of the fight. Team Name Every team must have a name which must be unique. Registration Teams using pneumatics or hydraulics will have to send a safety letter signed by any faculty in-charge /Lab in-charge or a testing lab/company dealing in this field, on their official letterhead. Judging criteria 1. A robot is declared victorious if its opponent is immobilized. 2. A robot will be declared immobile if it cannot display linear motion of at least one inch in a timed period of 30 seconds. A bot with one side of its drive train disabled will not be counted out if it can demonstrate some degree of controlled movement. In case both the robots remain mobile after the end of the round, then the winner will be decided subjectively. 3. A robot that is deemed unsafe by the judges after the match has begun will be disqualified and therefore declared the loser. The match will be immediately halted and the opponent will be awarded a win. 4. If a robot is thrown out of the arena the match will stop immediately, and the robot which survives inside the arena will automatically be declared as the winner. 5. Robots cannot win by pinning or lifting their opponents. Organizers will allow pinning or lifting for a maximum of 20 seconds per pin / lift, then the attacking robot will be instructed to release the opponent. If, after being instructed to do so, the attacker is able to release, but does not, their robot may be disqualified. If two or more robots become entangled or a crushing or gripping weapon is employed and becomes trapped within another robot, then the competitors should make the timekeeper aware, the fight should be stopped and the robots separated by the safest means. 6. Points will be given on the basis of aggression, damage, control and strategy. Aggression is judged by the frequency, severity, boldness and effectiveness of attacks deliberately initiated by the robot against its opponent. If a robot appears to have accidentally attacked an opponent, that act will not be considered Aggression. Control means a robot is able to attack an opponent at its weakest point, use its weapons in the most effective way, and minimize the damage caused by the opponent or its weapons. Damage through deliberate action, a robot either directly or indirectly reduces the functionality, effectiveness or defensibility of an 40

43 opponent. Damage is not considered relevant if a robot inadvertently harms itself. Also, if a pressure vessel or a rapidly spinning device on a robot fragment, any damage to the opponent will not be considered "deliberate" strategy. The robot exhibits a combat plan that exploits the robot's strength against the weakness of its opponent. Strategy is also defined as a robot exhibiting a deliberate defense plan that guards its weakness against the strength of the opponent. 7. In this round, you have to cover one story of the city and have to make a presentation on that story. The story can be based on a person or group. This will explore the presentation and communication skills as well as moral and social values which are must for a professional. The team will have to present it within 3-5 minutes. 50 T10) TREASURE-HUNT Introduction: If you re a person who loves solving riddles, if the word adventure makes the adrenaline rush through your body. Treasure hunt is what might catch your fancy. Treasure hunt is a team game that is quite popular throughout the world. As the name suggests, in this treasure hunt, you re supposed to hunt down the treasures. Event Terminology/rules: A team will consist of 3 members. There will be 2 rounds. College/ Zonal Level All riddles in the game will point towards the venue of the campus, where teams are supposed to go. Elimination of teams will be decided on the basis of the time taken by teams for completing their respective tasks. Each team must submit their resultant object with members altogether. The time period will be noted when the last member of a team will reach at the event venue. The maximum time for completing tasks will be announced on the spot. ROUND 1: The total no of teams will be divided into groups, where each group will consist of three teams. Riddles will be given to each group. (Riddles will be different for groups, but same for each team in a group). The riddle s answer will indicate a particular venue on the campus.
