The club proceeded to sell out all of its regular-season home games in the team s first six MLS seasons. During his tenure, the Timbers have qualified for CONCACAF Champions League twice ( , ), finished in the top three in the Western Conference twice and made their deepest run in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, reaching the semifinals in Porter coached in his 100th game as an MLS coach against Real Salt Lake on Oct. 14, 2015, posting a record of in those games, which tied Dominic Kinnear for the fewest losses (25) in MLS history in a coach s first 100 career games. In addition, his.570 winning percentage during that span ranked fourth among then-active coaches through their first 100 games, behind the Bruce Arena ( ,.625), Sigi Schmid ( ,.595) and Kinnear ( ,.575). Ending the 2015 campaign with a nine-game unbeaten run across all competitions, the Timbers lifted their first MLS Cup trophy with a 2-1 win over Columbus Crew SC on Dec. 6, Portland finished the regular season with an MLS-club-record 15 wins, while also tying for the league lead in shutouts (13). On the road, the Timbers finished the 2015 season tied for the most road wins (7) in the league. Porter, who led the Timbers to a club-record 12 home victories in 2016, is a two-time recipient of the Oregon Sports Awards Slats Gill Award for Sportsperson of the Year (2013, 2015), becoming the fourth soccer-related figure to receive the honor since it was founded in On Aug. 6, 2014, Porter helped guide the MLS All-Stars to a 2-1 win over Bayern Munich in the 2014 AT&T MLS All-Star Game at Providence Park. In his first season with the club, Porter was named the 2013 MLS Coach of the Year after assembling one of the biggest turnaround seasons in league history, guiding the Timbers to a 23-point improvement and a plus-43 goal-differential increase over the previous season. The 2013 club finished atop the Western Conference to secure its first MLS playoff berth and posted a league-best 15 shutouts, including a league-record 11 clean sheets at home. Prior to joining the Timbers, Porter, who holds a U.S. Soccer Federation A license, was one of the most successful coaches in NCAA history during his tenure as head coach at the University of Akron ( ). He compiled a career mark of and was named 2009 NSCAA National Coach of the Year. Porter led the Zips to back-to-back NCAA College Cup appearances (2009, 2010) and the school s first national title in any sport in Porter s coaching career also includes time as the head coach of the U.S. U-23 Men s National Team during 2012 CONCACAF Olympic qualifying and three years as an assistant coach on the U.S. U-18 National Team ( ). Porter was an assistant coach for six years ( ) at Indiana University, winning two national championships with the Hoosiers. Porter graduated from Indiana in 1998 with a degree in sports management. He and his wife, Andrea, have three children two sons, Colin (8) and Jake (6), and a daughter, Stella (5).

3 ALL-TIME SERIES NOTES Although Friday s match marks the first-ever MLS match betwen the Timbers and Minnesota United FC, the Timbers have played over 40 games against Minnesota-based clubs, dating back to their NASL era. While facing the Minnesota Kicks, Minnesota Thunder and NSC Minnesota Stars, the Timbers have produced a record against Minnesota-based teams. 5 SCOUTING UNITED FC FC Friday s match marks the beginning of Minnesota United FC s first season in MLS, with the club kicking off its expansion campaign after becoming the 23rd MLS team on March 25, After making the transition to MLS from the NASL, Minnesota appointed Adrian Heath as its first MLS head coach. Prior to joining the Loons, Heath compiled a regular-season record in one-and-a-half seasons as head coach of Orlando City SC. Additionally, the club added five players from its NASL roster to its MLS squad during the transition, signing Christian Ramirez, Brent Kallman, Ibson, Kevin Venegas and Justin Davis. Minnesota s key acquisitions ahead of the 2017 MLS campaign include midfielders Kevin Molino, Johan Venegas and Bashkim Kadrii. Molino, who was acquired in a trade with Orlando City SC, scored 11 goals in the 2016 MLS campaign, while also adding eight assists, recording the second-most goals for the Lions. Additionally, after acquiring the first overall pick in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft, United selected forward Abu Danladi. SCORING IN HOME OPENERS In the club s six home openers since joining MLS, the Timbers have averaged 2.2 goals per match with 13 goals total. Portland is in home openers since entering MLS in 2011, including wins over Chicago (2011), Philadelphia (2012) anbd Columbus (2016). In last year s opener, the team scored a goal in each half to defeat Columbus Crew SC, 2-1. PROVIDENCE PARK Portland has compiled a regular-season mark at Providence Park since In 2016, the Timbers won 12 of its 17 matches at Providence Park, compiling a record at home. The 12 wins at Providence Park in 2016 are the most home wins in the club s MLS era, trailing only the Timbers 1978 NASL season for the most home wins in club history (since 1975). UPCOMING MILESTONES With his next two assists, midfielder Diego Valeri will move into a tie for third place in Timbers history across all eras (since 1975) for assists. Since joining the Timbers in 2013, Valeri has produced 42 assists. Following his next finish, Darlington Nagbe, who has recorded 24 goals since joining the Timbers, will move into a tie for ninth place for goals scored in club history across all eras (since 1975). Additionally, with two more assists, Nagbe, who has 26 career assists, will move into fifth place in club history across all eras (since 1975) for assists. With his next MLS goal, forward Fanendo Adi will move into a tie for the secondmost goals scored in Timbers history across all eras of the club (since 1975). Adi currently has 41 league goals for Portland. Additionally, with his next point, Adi will move into a tie for the fifth-most points in club history. The forward currently has 92 points. FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS Friday s match marks the first-ever MLS match between the Timbers and Minnesota United FC, who begin their inaugural MLS campaign. The Timbers and United will face once more in the MLS regular season, with both sides set to play at TFC Bank Stadium on Wednesday, June 21. Since the start of the 2013 MLS campaign, the Timbers have only lost once in six games played on a Friday at Providence Park, compiling a record. Overall, Portland is in Friday games since the start of the 2013 MLS campaign. STRIKE RATE Timbers forward Fanendo Adi, who has scored 16 goals in each of the last two seasons, has scored a goal in six of the Timbers last seven regular-season games at Providence Park, dating back to the 2016 MLS campaign. Heading into the 2017 season, Adi has recorded six preseason goals in 240 minutes played. FEWEST LOSSES Since 2013, the Timbers have lost the third-fewest games in MLS in regular season action (39), and the second-fewest in the Western Conference. During that stretch, only the LA Galaxy (35) and New York Red Bulls (38) have lost fewer matches in regular-season play. FINISHING TOUCH Since 2013, the Timbers have scored the fourth-most home goals in the league (121). Only the LA Galaxy (149), New York Red Bulls (143) and FC Dallas (125) have scored more home goals during the past four seasons. In 2016, Portland ranked tied for the second-most goals scored at home (35), with the New York Red Bulls ranking as the only team to score more goals at home (36). After signing Costa Rican midfielder, David Guzmán via transfer from Deportivo Saprissa, the Timbers acquired Argentinian midfielder Sebastián Blanco as a Designated Player via transfer. Joining the Timbers midfield, Blanco and Guzmán provide over 380 professional matches to Portland s squad. EL MAESTRO In 2016, Timbers midfielder Diego Valeri, who recorded the most the secondmost goals (14) and the most assists on the team (7), ranked second in MLS for chances created (58). Only New York Red Bulls midfielder Sacha Klejestan created more chances in 2016 with 59, according to Opta.
