DALLAS SERIES INFORMATION The Revolution leads the all-time, regular-season series with FC Dallas (formerly the Dallas Burn), the Revs are at home against Dallas, including at Gillette Stadium, while they are on the road against the Hoops. Saturday night s match is the first of two meetings between the Revs and Hoops this season the teams will meet again on Sept. 30 at Pizza Hut Park. New England swept the two-game season series against FC Dallas in 2008 the Revs earned a 1-0 win in Dallas on April 24 and a 2-1 victory at Gillette Stadium on June 6. New England is against Dallas under head coach Steve Nicol dating back to New England has won five straight matches against FC Dallas at Gillette Stadium. The Revs have won nine of their last 10 meetings with FC Dallas dating back to 2004 (9-1-0), including each of the last five matches. FC Dallas hasn t beaten New England since May 20, 2006, when the Hoops earned a 4-0 win at Pizza Hut Park Dallas hasn t won in New England since July 16, 2003 a 2-1 victory at Gillette Stadium. The Revolution has an all-time winning percentage of.694 against Dallas, which represents the club s highest winning percentage against any team it has faced more than six times. New England defeated Dallas, 3-2, to win its first-ever cup championship in the U.S. Open Cup Final on Oct. 3, PLAYER NOTES VS. DALLAS Taylor Twellman is New England s all-time leading scorer against Dallas with 14 goals, a figure that marks his greatest total against any MLS team amazingly, Twellman has scored his 14 goals in just 13 appearances, while seven of those strikes have been gamewinners. Steve Ralston is the Revolution s second leading scorer against Dallas with five goals, including three in 13 appearances with the Revolution Ralston has also added 14 career assists against the Hoops, including seven with the Revolution. Shalrie Joseph has two goals and one assist in 13 appearances against Dallas. Jay Heaps is the club s all-time leader in games played (17) and games started (16) against Dallas. Matt Reis is in his New England career against the Hoops, posting a 1.18 goals against average and five shutouts. LAST MEETING New England 2, FC Dallas 1 June 6, 2008 Gillette Stadium (Foxborough, Mass.) Steve Ralston and former Revolution forward Adam Cristman scored first-half goals and goalkeeper Matt Reis made a career-high 10 saves as the Revs held off FC Dallas, 2-1 Cristman opened the scoring in just the fifth minute when he headed home Sainey Nyassi s right-wing cross, while Ralston doubled the lead when he converted a 22nd-minute penalty kick Reis was a stalwart between the pipes, making double-digit saves in a regular-season match the first time in his career although second-half substitute Arturo Alvarez scored a late consolation goal for the visitors, the Revs held on for the win.

4 MISCELLANEOUS TEAM NOTES FOUR POINTS FROM TWO GAMES = FAST START While it s still very early in the 2009 season, the Revs have already done something that they d only done twice before in club history, and that s begin the season with four points from their first two matches the Revolution also began both the 2005 and 2006 seasons with one win and one draw through two games, and it s worth noting that the club advanced to the MLS Cup Final in both seasons New England has never won its first two games of the season. REVS SET FOR 2009 HOME OPENER After beginning their season on the road for the 13th time in 14 seasons with matches in San Jose and New York, the Revs will finally open their 2009 home schedule when they host Western Conference foe FC Dallas at Gillette Stadium on Saturday night (April 4) the match will be the Revolution s first at Gillette Stadium in more than five months, as the club hasn t taken the field on home turf since drawing 0-0 in Game One of the Eastern Conference Semifinal Series against Chicago on Oct. 30, 2008 however, this will still be the secondearliest home opener in Revolution history in terms of the date the only time the Revs played a home match earlier in the calendar year was last season, when they opened the year at Gillette Stadium against Houston (March 29, 2008). RECENT SUCCESS IN HOME OPENERS New England is in home openers since Major League Soccer s inaugural season in 1996, although that mark includes two shootout wins, one overtime win and one shootout loss despite their mediocre all-time record in home openers, the Revs have won their last two home openers in dominating fashion, outscoring their opponents, 7-0 the Revolution earned a 4-0 win over Toronto FC in the 2007 home opener, while the club powered to a 3-0 victory against the Houston Dynamo in the 2008 opener. A DISTINCT UPPER HAND The Revs have had more success against FC Dallas than they have had against any other MLS team New England has an all-time winning percentage of.694 against Dallas (21-9-1), which represents the club s highest winning percentage against any team it has faced more than six times among teams that the Revolution has faced more than 10 times, the club has a winning percentage above.500 against only one other team (New York,.571). REVS GOING STREAKING AGAINST FC DALLAS While New England has found success against Dallas consistently since MLS inaugural season in 1996, the club s dominance in the series has never been more apparent than in recent years the Revs have won nine of the last 10 regular-season meetings between the clubs, including each of the last five overall and the last five at Gillette Stadium additionally, the Revolution defeated Dallas, 3-2, in the 2007 U.S. Open Cup Final... Dallas hasn t defeated New England since May 20, 2006, while the Hoops haven t earned a single point at Gillette Stadium since a 2-1 win on July 16, NICOL S MAGIC TOUCH The Revolution s recent success against FC Dallas unsurprisingly corresponds with the arrival of head coach Steve Nicol in 2002 since Nicol took the reins in New England, the Revs are against the Hoops in 16 regular-season meetings in addition to regular-season dominance over Dallas, Nicol also guided New England to its first-ever cup championship with a 3-2 victory over the Hoops in the U.S. Open Cup Final on Oct. 3, NOT FIT TO BE TIED In 20 regular-season meetings since 2000 (when MLS abandoned the shootout and instituted draws), New England and FC Dallas have drawn just once (1-1 on July 4, 2001 at the Cotton Bowl) to put that fact in perspective, the Revs have drawn with Houston three times (six all-time meetings), Real Salt Lake three times (eight all-time meetings), Toronto twice (five all-time meetings) and Chivas USA twice (eight all-time meetings) despite playing all four teams fewer than 10 times the Revs and Hoops did finish regulation tied on two other occasions, but those matches occurred in the late 1990s when MLS still decided tied matches via the shootout. THE CURIOUS CASE OF THE REVOLUTION S STARTING LINEUP Like Benjamin Button, the Revolution s starting lineup just keeps getting younger after fielding a starting eleven with an average age of 25.1 years old in the season opener against San Jose (March 21), New England got even younger against New York last Saturday night (March 28) with an average age of just 24.2 years old while the 10 field players were the same for both matches, 34-year-old goalkeeper Matt Reis was replaced by 24-year-old Brad Knighton for the New York match, as Reis was a late scratch with swelling in his right knee against the Red Bulls, the Revolution s starting lineup had an average of just 1.5 years of MLS game experience entering the 2009 season. A BRIEF RETURN While the Revs open their home schedule against FC Dallas at Gillette Stadium on Saturday night (April 4), they ll return to the road for the following two matches and won t play another home game for almost a month (May 3 against Houston) because of the cold and unpredictable weather in the Northeast, the Revolution has gotten used to playing early-season matches outside New England it s the case once again this season, as the Revs opened 2009 with a pair of road matches and play four of their first five and five of their first seven away from Gillette Stadium. BREAKING POINT The Revs certainly won t have to worry about tiring themselves out on Saturday night against FC Dallas (April 4), as they will have 12 days to recover ahead of their next match against D.C. United (April 17 on ESPN2) with the introduction of the expansion Seattle Sounders FC this season, the league includes 15 teams therefore - because of the odd number of clubs - at least one team will be off each weekend, and it will be the Revolution s turn in the season s third week in 2008, the Revolution s longest break all season was nine days in between the SuperLiga group stage (July 20) and semifinal round (July 30). GOALKEEPER BRAD KNIGHTON MAKES MLS DEBUT Third-year goalkeeper Brad Knighton made his MLS debut with a start against the New York Red Bulls last Saturday night (March 28), making three saves and helping the Revolution earn a 1-1 draw Knighton earned the starting nod when first-choice goalkeeper Matt Reis was a late scratch from the gameday roster because of pain and swelling in his right knee after spending the first two years of his career as the third goalkeeper behind Reis and Doug Warren, Knighton earned the backup job prior to the 2009 season when Warren was waived. REVS SIGN CAMEROONIAN FORWARD AND GHANAIAN DEFENDER... The Revolution recently announced that the club has signed Stephane Assengue Ombiogno, a forward from Cameroon, and Emmanuel Osei, a central defender from Ghana, to Major League Soccer contracts to play for the Revs both players will occupy international roster spots... Assengue Ombiogno will join the team pending release of his U.S. P-1 Visa, while Osei is awaiting receipt of his International Transfer Certificate Assengue Ombiogno 18, comes to the Revolution from Daga Young Stars, a regional team in the Western African country of Cameroon... Osei, 26, most recently played for Liberty Professionals in Ghana s top league, while he s also spent time with ASV Cham (Germany), AS Livorno (Italy), FC Timisoara (Romania) and Hearts of Oak (Ghana)... a member of Ghana s 2004 Olympic Team, Osei has been capped by Ghana s senior national team. TO CONTINUE THE AFRICAN REVOLUTION With the signings of Cameroonian forward Stephane Assengue Ombiogno and Ghanaian defender Emmanuel Osei, the Revolution now has five African players on the club s roster, as the duo joins Kenny Mansally (Gambia), Sainey Nyassi (Gambia) and Kheli Dube (Zimbabwe) New England s coaching staff has made a concerted effort to look for African talent in recent years, including a pair of scouting trips to Ghana this past offseason. OR IS IT THE AFRICAN CONNECTION? Forwards Kheli Dube (Zimbabwe) and Kenny Mansally (Gambia) have proven to be two of the Revolution s top scoring threats early in the 2009 season, as the pair has provided both of the Revolution s goals through two games Dube scored the game-winner in the season opener against San Jose (March 21), while Mansally grabbed a late equalizer in last Saturday night s 1-1 draw with New York (March 28). THE LATE, LATE SHOW WITH KENNY MANSALLY Forward Kenny Mansally earned the Revolution a 1-1 draw with the New York Red Bulls last Saturday night (March 28), scoring the game-tying goal in the 90th minute stand-in captain Shalrie Joseph fought off the challenge of New York midfielder Luke Sassano and lobbed a pass over the top of the Red Bulls defense for Mansally to run on to Red Bulls goalkeeper Danny Cepero charged off his line, but Mansally reached the ball first and guided a header inside the left post to earn the Revs a valuable point on the road the Revolution went when surrendering the first goal in 2008, so last Saturday night s late comeback is a positive sign early in PUTTING THE OPPOSITION OFF Early in the 2009 season, the Revolution s young backline hasn t allowed its opponents to have many clear looks at goal... through two games, New England s opponents have fired 34 shots, but only eight of those shots have been on target (23.5 percent)... meanwhile, the Revs have put 12 of their 19 total shots on target (63.2 percent), making them the most accurate team in the league through Week Two.

5 RED AND DREAD DISTRIBUTION COMPANY The central midfield tandem of Jeff Larentowicz and Shalrie Joseph playfully nicknamed Red and Dread in reference to Larentowicz s red hair and Joseph s dreads has gained a reputation as being one of the best central midfield tandems in the league because of their great positioning and strong physical presence however, the duo is also making a name for itself as an offensive threat, as Larentowicz and Joseph have combined for a pair of assists in the first two games of the season Larentowicz recorded the game-winning assist on Kheli Dube s goal in the season opener against San Jose (March 21), while Joseph provided the game-tying assist for Kenny Mansally s equalizer last Saturday night against New York (March 28). REIS QUEST FOR 50 SHUTOUTS CURRENTLY ON HOLD Goalkeeper Matt Reis earned his 49th career shutout in the season-opening, 1-0 win over the San Jose Earthquakes (March 21), and needs just one more clean sheet to become the seventh goalkeeper in MLS history to record 50 shutouts... Reis was hoping to shoot for No. 50 against the New York Red Bulls on his 34th birthday last Saturday night (March 28), but he was a late scratch from the gameday roster after experiencing pain and swelling in his right knee, so backup Brad Knighton earned the start... a scan on Monday (March 30) revealed no tears in the knee, but Reis is still listed as Out on the latest injury report and is unlikely to be available for Saturday night s home opener (April 4). WITH 50TH SHUTOUT ON THE HORIZON, WE REFLECT ON REIS It s just a matter of time before Matt Reis becomes the seventh goalkeeper in MLS history to record 50 shutouts, and it certainly won t be the first major accomplishment in his career when he reaches that mark... the veteran shot-stopper holds every New England career goalkeeping record, including games played in goal (151), games started in goal (150), minutes played in goal (13,512), goals against average (1.29), wins (62), saves (596), shutouts (40) and save percentage (.722)... additionally, Reis has won an MLS Cup (LA Galaxy, 2002) and is a four-time MLS All-Star. AGELESS RALSTON S RETURN SHOULD GIVE REVS A BOOST After missing the first two games of the season with a right quad strain, captain Steve Ralston could return to the Revolution s lineup for Saturday night s home opener against FC Dallas (April 4)... Ralston was a driving force in the Revolution s success last season, and the 34- year old was rewarded through his recognition as the club s 2008 Team MVP a deeper look into the numbers reveals just how vital Ralston was to New England s achievements in 2008: The Revs were in regular-season games in which Ralston recorded a goal or an assist last season, as opposed to when he wasn t involved in any scoring. The Revs went with Ralston in the lineup and without him. Ralston s eight goals were a career-high in his 13th year in the league. Despite missing one-third of the season because of injury, Ralston tied for the leaguelead in both game-winning goals (4) and game-winning assists (5). The veteran midfielder owns five MLS career records: minutes (31,600), games (358), starts (355), assists (128) and game-winning assists (38). MLS ORIGINAL RALSTON HOPES 2009 IS THE YEAR When Steve Ralston was selected by the Tampa Bay Mutiny with the 18th overall selection in the 1996 college draft, he couldn t have imagined the career that lay ahead of him... since winning MLS Rookie of the Year honors in that inaugural season, Ralston has won four Team MVP awards, been named to seven all-star teams and three Best XI teams, won four Eastern Conference Championships and appeared 36 times for the U.S. National Team... however, through 13 years plying his trade in the league, one prize has eluded Ralston - an MLS Cup title... of the four remaining MLS Originals - players who have played at least one minute in each and every season in league history - Ralston is the only one not to have won an MLS Cup... the other remaining MLS Originals are Ante Razov (Chivas USA), Jesse Marsch (Chivas USA) and Jaime Moreno (D.C. United). HEAPS CLIMBS INTO FOURTH ON ALL-TIME MINUTES PLAYED LIST Jay Heaps continues to reassert his Iron Man status, as the veteran defender climbed into fourth place on MLS all-time minutes played list in the season opener against San Jose (March 21)... Heaps has now played 25,373 minutes in his 11-year career, passing current Real Salt Lake head coach Jason Kreis (25,242) on the list... the Massachusetts native is the Revolution s all-time leader in every career longevity record, including games played (220), games started (215) and minutes played (19,629). HEAPS ON COURSE TO BE THE REVS FIRST 20,000-MINUTE MAN Veteran defender Jay Heaps is already the Revolution s all-time minutes played leader (19,629), and now he s approaching a milestone unmatched by any other player in club history... with just 371 more minutes of regular-season action, Heaps will become the first player in Revolution history to play 20,000 minutes for the club... if - as expected - Heaps is a regular starter, he is on pace to reach the 20,000-minutes played mark in New England s seventh game of the season, at the Chicago Fire on May 9... Heaps is already fourth on MLS all-time list for minutes played (25,373), including the two-and-a-half seasons he spent with the Miami Fusion at the beginning of his career. ALSTON AND BARNES MAKE IMMEDIATE IMPACT Rookie defenders Kevin Alston and Darrius Barnes have wasted little time making their presence known in Major League Soccer, as the pair has started both of the Revolution s games this season... Alston, who was the Revolution s top selection (10th overall) in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft out of Indiana, has played all but one minute at right back... Barnes, who was drafted in the third round (40th overall) in January s draft, has played all 180 minutes alongside fellow Duke alum Jay Heaps in the center of the Revolution s four-man backline... the two young defenders have helped the Revs shut down both San Jose and New York, as the Revs have conceded just one goal - an own goal - and allowed just eight shots on target through two games. AN OLD DOG TEACHES THE NEW DOGS TRICKS The Revolution s four-man backline for the first two matches of the season has featured a mixture of experience and youth, with the experience heavily skewed towards veteran Jay Heaps... the 32-year-old, who is playing in his 11th season in the league, has teamed up with rookies Kevin Alston and Darrius Barnes and second-year defender Chris Tierney to form New England s defensive core... Heaps leadership has been critical in settling the young players, as the group has remained solid and conceded just one goal - an own goal - in two matches. TWELLMAN ON BRINK OF HISTORY, BUT BATTLING INJURY After scoring a team-high eight goals in an injury-plagued 2008 season, Taylor Twellman is just one goal shy of becoming the fifth player in Major League Soccer history and the first player in Revolution history to score 100 regular-season goals Twellman is currently ranked fifth in career MLS goals (99), five behind fourth-place Jeff Cunningham (104), currently of FC Dallas, and 23 shy of D.C. s Jaime Moreno (122), the league s all-time leading goal scorer separating Twellman from the rest of the pack is the fact that he has scored his 99 goals in just 172 games, while all four players ahead of him on the charts have made at least 260 career appearances Twellman is on pace to become the league s youngest 100-goal scorer, but he is currently out with neck pain stemming from the blow to the head he received from former Galaxy goalkeeper Steve Cronin while scoring a goal on Aug. 30, NICOL CONTINUES TO CLIMB THE ALL-TIME WINS LIST Head coach Steve Nicol is in the midst of his eighth straight season in charge of the Revolution, making the Scot the longest-tenured head coach in Major League Soccer a Liverpool legend from his playing days, Nicol has been remarkably successful during his stint at the Revolution s helm, winning four Eastern Conference championships and appearing in six Eastern Conference Finals in his first seven years of service Nicol has led the Revolution to the postseason in each of his seven seasons as head coach, and he is currently third alltime on MLS career wins list (88) behind only Bob Bradley (124) and Sigi Schmid (115) CONCACAF GOLD CUP COMING TO GILLETTE STADIUM The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football has announced that Gillette Stadium will host two first-round matches in the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup, which will be part of a soccer tripleheader on Saturday, July 11 Gillette Stadium has been chosen as one of a record 13 locations for the biennial event which serves as the regional soccer championship the tournament kicks off on July 3 in Los Angeles at The Home Depot Center and concludes on Sunday, July 26 at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. on July 11, the Revs will start a full day of soccer action at 4 p.m. when they host Eastern Conference foe Kansas City in the first of three matches the two Gold Cup first-round matches will follow. ITALIAN RIVALS AC MILAN AND INTER MILAN TO BATTLE AT GILLETTE STADIUM Italian Serie A powers AC Milan and Inter Milan will meet at Gillette Stadium at 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, in just the teams second-ever match outside Europe... the game will be part of the World Football Challenge, a six-city round robin tournament that will also feature English Premier League club Chelsea and Mexican side Club America... some of the best players in the world are expected to be on display, including Kaká and Ronaldinho of AC Milan and Adriano and Zlatan Ibrahimovic of Inter Milan in addition to Gillette Stadium, the tournament will be played at the Rose Bowl, the Georgia Dome, MT&T Bank Stadium, Stanford Stadium and the new Cowboys Stadium from July 19 to July 26. REVS TO HOST TEAM-SPONSORED AWAY GAME VIEWING PARTIES Throughout the 2009 season, the Revolution will host a series of away game viewing parties at local establishments in New England, and the first event of the series is set for the club s next away match at D.C.
