1 Information We have registered a team of four to take part in The CARE Construction Challenge, where George, Patrick, James and Ranulph will travel over 40km in a single day by running a 15km obsticle trail, cycling 26km and building a raft to cross 1km of river. To enter this event, we need to raise money for CARE International, who help millions of people fight poverty in over 70 countries around the world. So to help us help them, we are inviting you to a 5-a-side Charity Football tournament, aimed at raising some The Event and Venue We are holding the tournament at the five-a-side pitches of Bury St Edmunds, IP32 6RF. We have hired two pitches from 11am til 4pm. There will be a BBQ and a Light Refeshments donations bar open all day, and we have been granted access to the toilet facilities in the school. of the 3000 we need for entry into the Challenge. Your team can be built from 8 players, the teams can be consist of male or female players, or a mixture of the two, just as long as everyone is over 16. Full tournament rules can be found overleaf. However the most important thing to remember is that this is a charity event, so respectable behavior is appreciated and please make sure you and everyone around you enjoys the day. Of course friends and family are all welcome to the event to cheer you on. Below is a map to County Upper School, off road car parking is available but limited. 2 RULES OF THE TOURNEMENT Team Rules 1. Teams must turn up to register at the time designated by the organiser in order to allow the competition to commence promptly. Late arrivals will be disqualified at the discretion of the organiser. 2. Each team will consist of four outfield players and a goalkeeper, with a maximum squad of eight players. Only five players from a team are permitted on the pitch at any time. The eight members of the team can consist of male and female players, but all team members must be over the age of sixteen. 3. Unlimited substitutions are allowed to take place, however changes can only be made at the time of a dead ball, the referee must be notified when a substitute is about to come on. 4. A player who has played for one team may not play for another team during the competition. 5. It is preferable that teams are attired in strips of a similar colour. If this is not possible, or if two teams have similar strips, then bibs will be provided. 6. It is advised that Astro Turf trainers be worn. Moulds or blade type studs are permitted. Football studs are not recommended as they can be dangerous to the players wearing them, and the ones playing against the wearer. They can also damage the pitch, which may result in delays or cancellation of play. 7. Goalkeepers are advised to wear tracksuit bottoms and/or long sleeved tops to avoid friction burns from the surface of the pitch. 8. Shin pads must be worn at all times. Any player not wearing shin pads will not be allowed to play. Rules : continued...

3 Competition Rules 5-a-side 9. Play will be of two equal halves, determined for each round by the organiser. Teams shall change the ends at half time, but play is to continue immediately. Injury time will be played at the discretion of the referee. 10. The ball must never be played with the head, even if it is below kick-board height. An indirect free kick against the offending team will be awarded at the point of infringement. If a shot passes above the goal s cross bar, then play shall stop and the goalkeeper shall take a goal kick. 11. If the ball is played above head height, an indirect free kick will be awarded against the player who last played the ball, at the place that it was last played. If the player was the goalkeeper, then no offence is committed. 12. At free kicks, no player shall be within two yards of the ball. 13. After holding the ball, the goalkeeper must return the ball into play by rolling it out of the goal area with an under arm bowling action, the player receiving the ball may not play the ball back to the goalkeeper unless it has touched another defending player or an attacker. Contravention of this rule will result in an indirect free kick being awarded to the attacking side two yards outside the area nearest the point of return of the ball. 14. Play will not be stopped if the ball ricochets off a wall above head height, however it may only be played again after coming below head height. 15. Play commences at the start of each half and after a goal is scored, with a centre. 16. Only the defending goalkeeper is allowed in the penalty area. Intentional entry into the penalty area by a forward results in a goalkeepers ball. Intentional exit by a goalkeeper results in a penalty. 17. If a team is permanently reduced to three players or temporarily reduced to two players due to misconduct, the game will be abandoned, and the result awarded against the team 4-0. If the score for the opposition at this point is greater than 4-0 then that score will stand. 18. If a team struggles on the day to field a team of three players or fails to play a match on time, then the opposition is awarded the match at a score of 4-0. Rules : continued...

4 Competition Rules Continued If a player receives a Red Card then he/she will be not be allowed to play in the following game. Three Yellow Cards will also result in a suspension from the following game. At the begining of the knockout stage, all cards will be reset, with all players continuing the tournement with a clean slate. 20. The goalkeeper must be on or as near to the goal line as possible when a penalty kick is being taken. They may move from side to side but cannot advance from their goal line. Players can take no more than two strides when taking a penalty kick. 21. The referee s decision in all on-field matters is final, and no discussions should be entered into either on or off the field with him/her about any decision. The referee s jurisdiction on disciplinary matters will apply until players have entered the changing rooms, and repeated dispute may result in disqualification from the competition. Separating Conditions Disclaimer 22. The format is that of a pool system with the top two teams from each group going through to the knock-out stages. Points per match are given as follows; Win - 3 Points, Draw - 1 Point, Loss - 0 Point Should there be a tie on points, then goal differences will be used to separate the teams. Should goal differences be equal, the team who has scored most goals will top the section. If there is still no clear leader after this point, then the points, goal difference and goals scored of the match(es) between the two teams will be used to determine the eventual winner. If there is still no separating the teams after this stage a coin will be tossed to determine the outcome. 23. In the knock-out stages, no extra time will be played to separate deadlocked teams. Penalties will be taken to determine the outcome with the first team to break the deadlock declared the winner. (i.e. Team A misses whilst Team B scores results in Team B being declard the winner.) Neither DGA (D.J. Goode and Associates Ltd), County Upper School nor West Suffolk Leisure will be held liable in contract, tort or otherwise for any personal injury or for any loss or damage however caused to a participant or to anyone accompanying him or her arising out of or in connection with this competition. Referees are volunteers and shall not be liable in contract, tort or otherwise for any personal injury or for any loss or damage however caused to a participant or to anyone accompanying him or her arising out of or in connection with this competition. It is the responsibility of the captain to ensure his/her team understands the rules of the tournament and the terms in this disclaimer, and to indemnify DGA against any claim by such person. Parking for the event is limited at the venue, there may be some parking available in streets close to the school, but DGA is not held responsible for any damage or fines incurred to the owner or his/her vehicle. This charity event is a Participate At Your Own Risk event. Players, Spectators, Organisers and Officials are responsible for themselves and their property, and DGA are not liable for loss, damage or ill health caused by actions carried out on the day by anyone attending the event.
