1 1 Youth U10 U14 by Stefan öger, head coach, SG ynamo resden eating the defender in back-to-goal situations practice session for ages U10 U14, focusing on offensive 1 v. 1 tactics Forward passes often put the receiver in a 1 v. 1 situation with a defender on his or her back and not surprisingly, defending players near the goal don t like to let their opponents receive the ball and turn around without interference! So attackers have to learn how to shield the ball from defenders, get away the moment the pressure lets up and then quickly turn to face downfield. fter that, they need to start dribbling toward the goal as fast as they can and, hopefully, score! In this training session, players are confronted with back-to-goal 1 v. 1s in every activity. nd to keep training realistic, every forward pass is combined with a shot on goal. Triangle keep-away Warm-up E E Setup Using cones, mark out two triangles. ivide players into two groups, one for each station. Each group has two players (attacker and defender) inside the triangle; the rest line up at the corners. Each group has a ball. Sequence Player passes to attacker inside the triangle. efender E puts mild pressure on while is controlling the ball. takes the ball to one side and then passes to. follows the ball to s cone while runs into the middle to defend and E becomes the new attacker. starts the next play with a pass to E, who passes to, and so on. E tries to run around on one side, forcing to take the ball in the other direction. The outside players throw the ball in to the attacker in the middle. efensive pressure should be minimal just enough to force the attacker to run onto the ball and use his body to shield it from the defender. Try to avoid actual 1 v. 1 confrontations during warm-up.

3 3 Youth U10 U14 Triangle to triangle Warm-up Setup is the same as in the previous exercise. ivide players into two teams and position them as shown. Each team has a ball. On the coach s signal, passes to, who briefly controls the ball and then passes to. controls the pass while dribbling around the other one, then passes back to the next player at her own one. Which team is the first to get everyone back to their original positions? has to do a fake while dribbling to the other triangle. o one round at a time: Whichever team finishes the round first scores a point. This rotation will help players learn to receive the ball fluidly while in motion. Ideally, the ball should never stop moving. The players waiting in line at one are not allowed to interfere with opponents dribbling around the cone. Go! Receiving under pressure Main activity Set up a standard goal with goalkeeper, plus two starting cones positioned as shown. Position two players (attackers and defenders) in front of the goal. Everyone else lines up at the starting cones. Player passes to, who plays a one-touch pass into space for attacker to run onto. efender starts putting pressure on as controls the ball and lays off to, who plays a pass to space for. dribbles toward the endline and then plays a ground ball across to, who dribbles forward ( stays behind now) and finishes. Leave out the defender. The attacker has to finish under pressure as well. ttackers should practice going for the ball assertively and protecting it from the defender. fter the back pass to, should make a bending run to get into shooting position.

4 Success in Soccer 5/2014 Tactics: Individual 4 1 v. 1 decision-making Main activity Setup is the same as in the previous exercise, except there is a designated server who stands at the outside cone with several balls. Server plays a ball in to. t the same time, starts running forward from the inside cone. now has the option of either going 1 v. 1 against to score or laying the ball off to. If involves, the two of them attack 2 v. 1 to score. If succeeds in scoring 1 v. 1, the goal counts double. nother defender runs onto the field to create a 2 v. 2 situation. should start putting pressure on from the moment receives the ball. Keep reminding your players that the object is to finish on goal quickly and decisively. Have players switch roles and positions every three rounds. Get it to the goal! onclusion Mark out a field with a centerline, a standard goal and a goal line. ivide players into two teams (attackers and defenders). Each team chooses a goalkeeper. The attacking team has three players in its own half and two in the other. The defending team has two players in its own half, two in the other and one by the goal line. Play begins with a short pass from the attacking team s keeper. ttackers play 3 v. 2, trying to play a pass into the other half. Once the ball crosses the centerline, the fifth defender runs in and the two teams play 5 v. 5. If the defenders succeed in winning the ball, they have to pass it to the other team s keeper. Playing time is four minutes per round. One defender sits out, so the other team attacks numbers-up. The attacking team s players have a three-touch limit. all carriers should always be looking for forward passing chances. The receiver of the pass across the centerline needs to secure the ball while also looking for a way to move the attack fluidly forward.
