2 Badminton - Senior Qualifiers Whakatane STARTS 3rd Jun May 5pm VENUE: War Memorial Hall, Whakatane MANAGERS MEETING: 9.25am STARTING TIME: 9.30am SHARP Badminton - Senior Qualifiers Tauranga STARTS 8th Jun Jun - 5:00pm VENUE: QEYC TAURANGA MANAGERS MEETING: 9.25am STARTING TIME: 9.30am SHARP Grade: Year 11,12, 13 Court Boundaries Singles This is a long thin court (indicated in grey) with the side tramline areas (indicated in white) being out When serving the shuttle must be delivered to the opposite diagonal box and must go past the front service line Doubles This is the full court (indicated in grey) When serving the shuttle must be delivered to the opposite diagonal box When serving the shuttle must go past the front service line but not past the first of the 2 lines at the back of the court Once the serve has been delivered, the whole court area is in Scoring Singles After each rally a point is scored You keep serving until you lose a rally, when the serve will go over to your opponent. You serve from the left if your score is odd. You serve from the Right if your score is even A set of badminton is completed when one player reaches 21 points If the score reaches 20-20, then the first player to gain a two point lead wins (e.g 25-23) If you reach then the winner of the next point wins the set. Doubles Doubles scoring follows the same basic principles as singles scoring with a couple of additional points to remember. There is only one serve - if you lose a rally then the serve will still go over to your opponents. When a side wins a point and are serving, the players change sides with the same person continuing to serve. When a side wins a point and regains the serve, players do not change sides. If the score is odd the person on the left serves and if the score is even the person on the right serves. Serving

3 The feet should be within the service box from which you are serving. This means you cannot have your feet on the lines that form the boundary of the service box. Part of both feet must be on the ground and stationary throughout the serve. The receiver must stand within their service box and not move until the server has struck the shuttle. The backswing and follow through must be one continuous movement. This means there should be no double motions or pause at the end of the backswing. At the point the shuttle is struck the racket should be pointing in a downward direction. At the point of being struck the shuttle should be below the waist (defined as the lowest rib). Bouldering (Rock Climbing) - Junior Senior Indoor STARTS 18th May May - 12:00noon Venue: The Wall and Basement Cinema, Rotorua Start Time: 9.30am Competitors briefing, 10.00am Start Mixed Teams Questions: If you have any questions relating to the event itself please contact: Rotorua Climbing Club Delegate: Lossie Maafu Rotorua Climbing Club Mobile: (021) Rotorua. Climbingskills@live.com Schools will be invoiced after the event Changes from previous years (please read carefully): Event controller to outline what is in and what is out (with demonstrations) during the event briefing. A wall feature will be deemed part of the climb unless it is completely taped off. Climbers may not skip more than one hold (Excluding the start and finishing holds) in a single attempt within a boulder route. Team sizes have been reduced from 6 to 3 to allow smaller schools to compete. It also removes the need to find virtual climbers to make up teams. Teams with virtual climbers will not be eligible to place in the teams category. Team members complete the boulder problem in the 6 min window allocated to the team. Climbers will not alternate with those from other teams on the boulder as was the case in Format 4 low level (Under 3 meters in height) traversing routes will be set up at the venue, and numbered as Boulder Problems 1-4. Schools are required to enter teams of 3 competitors. NOTE: This is a change from 2013 in response to feedback that more schools would like to enter. Four teams will be stationed at each boulder problem at the start of each session in accordance with the roster. Each Sub-Round consists of 3 two minute bouts (enough for the competitors from a team to climb the boulder problem that they are on for for 1 minute 30 secs each with a 30 second changeover). Note: Each 1 min 30 sec starts when the MC starts the music and finishes when the music is stopped. The MC will wait for just 30sec before starting the next bout giving just enough time for the next climber to get in the starting position. Teams with a bye will rest for the 30 minute round. Scoring Starting with both hands on the first hold/s (marked with green duct tape) of a boulder problem, a climber scores 1 point for every hold that they progress to. If a climber completes the traverse (by

4 matching and controlling both hands on the final hold marked in red duct tape) they score full points plus 10 bonus points and can then return to the beginning of the climb to start again and accumulate more points. The objective is to accumulate as many points as possible over a 1min and 30sec bout. In the case that a climber does not complete the traverse by matching and controlling two hands on the red marked hold, they may start again to accumulate more points but only after running to touch a penalty cone set up approximately 4 meters away from the boulder problem. No points are scored for touching or holding footers. A judge stationed at each boulder problem will score the bout and teams are expected to hold on to their scorecards throughout the day. At the end of the day, teams will add up individual scores to determine their team score. They will need to have their official score sheets signed off by a rival team before submitting them to the controller to determine the official team and individual placings for the event. Important Event Information Teams with virtual climbers (i.e. those that cannot field a full team of three and for whom a team member will have to climb twice) will not be eligible for official placing s in the Teams category. Individual scores in this scenario are still eligible for placing in the individual categories (but the first attempt by each competitor will be counted towards their score). Schools are required to enter teams of 3 competitors. Teams of 1 will not be accepted. Climbing shoes and chalk-bags can be hired from The Wall ($2 shoes and $3 for chalk bags) on a first come first serve basis. Food purchased from other retail food outlets (eg. McDonalds) is not permitted to be consumed at the Wall and Basement Cinema..
