GoFitba is an exciting 12-week community football project based around health and wellbeing which will be delivered in association with 12 partner community football clubs to schoolchildren based in Inverness to Dundee, Edinburgh to Kilwinning and Glenrothes to Cumbernauld. GoFitba was nominated by The Scottish F.A. as a worthy project to the UEFA Foundation for Children who decided to back it at a meeting held earlier in the year in Stockholm. The project was further boosted by a generous donation from The Kilpatrick Fraser Charitable Trust who have previously supported the work of the SFP Trust. GoFitba will offer the children a platform for fun, physical activity and an understanding of the importance of a healthy lifestyle through diet and nutrition. The SFP Trust believes that good health education and wellbeing is key for children having the best start in life and this programme will offer them a chance James Clydesdale, Chairman of The SFP Trust, said: Football can be a positive tool for personal and community development. We are extremely excited to be delivering twelve projects across the country and to be given the opportunity to engage with local schoolchildren and encourage them towards a healthy and active lifestyle. Sandy Kilpatrick of The Kilpatrick Fraser Charitable Trust added: All of the Trustees have been fully supportive of the GoFitba project objectives since its inception because they meet our criteria of providing support to grassroots football and improving the health of young people throughout the country. 12 PARTNER COMMUNITY CLUBS WILL HELP TO DELIVER GOFITBA TO SCHOOLCHILDREN THROUGHOUT SCOTLAND. to enjoy an hour of fun football-based activity led by club coaches to develop their physical skills, attitude and confidence followed by an hour where they will be taught how to lead a healthier lifestyle through diet and nutrition. The children will then gather to enjoy some social time together followed by a hot, healthy cooked meal. Stewart Regan, Scottish FA Chief Executive, commented We were delighted to nominate The Trust for this award from UEFA and are extremely proud to have been involved in securing funding for such a noble and worthwhile project. The GoFitba project is a fantastic way to showcase what Scottish football clubs and organisations can offer to the young members of their communities. It is projects such as this that positively contribute to changing behaviours and attitudes at an early age and we are delighted to have played a role in funding this initiative. 4 Read how some of Scotland's senior clubs have benefitted from our Facility Grants Roof replaced on John Hunter stand at Fir Park MOTHERWELL F.C. Motherwell F.C. was delighted to be awarded funding in the close season to assist with the replacement of the old roof covering the East Stand at Fir Park Stadium. Originally known as the Shed Terracing, it was renamed the East Stand in 1990 when it became an all-seated area and in 2016, the club rechristened it the John Hunter Stand after the club s legendary Manager. Chief Operating Officer Alan Burrows was thrilled with the outcome of the project and commented I would like to sincerely thank the Board of The for their consideration of our application and the funding awarded to totally revamp the rickety old roof on the John Hunter Stand at Fir Park. This was a vital project for us as the old roof had fallen into a state of disrepair and was causing us tremendous problems in the bad weather, particularly on a match day where troublesome leaks were not only a hazard, but were having a real negative impact on the fan experience. The funding we received from the SFP was absolutely paramount without it we wouldn t have been able to undertake the project and give a Stand, named after such a Scottish footballing legend, the roof it deserved." Funding for new ground entry systems at three senior clubs GREENOCK MORTON F.C. DUNFERMLINE ATHLETIC F.C. HEART OF MIDLOTHIAN F.C. The SFP s Facility Award helps clubs improve and upgrade their stadia in accordance with the requirements of The Scottish F.A. s National Club Licensing and after an approach from these clubs, the SFP Board was delighted to provide funding to assist part-fund the upgrade of the ground entry system and turnstiles at Cappielow Park, East End Park and Tynecastle Park. Greenock Morton Chief Executive, Warren Hawke said; We at Greenock Morton Football Club are hugely grateful to The for supporting the recent re-development of our turnstiles and ground entry system here at Cappielow. This project represented a big capital outlay for the club which was offset thanks to the vital grant assistance provided by the SFP. Ian Hunter, Director at Dunfermline Athletic F.C. added; Without the grant assistance from The Scottish Football, we could not have carried out the work to install, repair and upgrade new electronic turnstiles at East End Park. They supported us all the way and made the grant application process very straightforward. Chair/Chief Executive of Heart of Midlothian F.C., Ann Budge commented The Club was extremely grateful to receive the award from the (SFP) to assist us with the purchase of a modern ground entry system for our new main stand. The new stand at Tynecastle Park opened on Sunday 19 November to much acclaim by our supporters, who welcomed the new automatic turnstile access and are delighted with the speed and simplicity of access and egress to the stadium. The Club thanks the SFP most sincerely for their support Club following our recent award to support the clubs new ground entry system #impressive Dunfermline Great to welcome you back to east end park. CCTV system upgrade at Pittodrie ABERDEEN F.C. The SFP made an award to Aberdeen F.C. to assist the club in upgrading the old analogue CCTV system at Pittodrie. The aging system was experiencing problems and was no longer compatible with the club s new IT based system. The project had a focus on making improvements and upgrading areas of Pittodrie Stadium that are essential to the matchday experience at a modern day football stadium. These improvements embrace Scottish FA and UEFA Licensing requirements and will help improve the safety and security of all supporters and staff attending matches at Pittodrie. Thanks to the and the great work and support that they provide, Aberdeen F.C. has recently managed to complete an essential upgrade to our CCTV and security systems at Pittodrie Stadium. Aberdeen F.C. has a responsibility to provide a safe and secure stadium for all supporters attending on matchdays and although our stadium may be aging and facilities challenging at times we still need to move forward with technology and update our systems to provide the best possible matchday experience for all. Time and consideration has also been taken with the planning and upgrade of this system and with a new stadium expected in the next few years we have ensured that all systems and upgrades are future proofed and can be moved from Pittodrie to any new location as necessary. The Scottish Football has a great passion for football and a wide remit to support Scottish football clubs and organisations across all levels of the game by providing grant funding for a diverse range of projects, programmes and infrastructure improvements and Aberdeen F.C. are grateful for their continued support and assistance with the projects that have benefited our supporters. 5 New accessible viewing platform for disabled supporters New spectator and community changing facilities PARTICK THISTLE F.C. ELGIN CITY F.C. Partick Thistle Our accessible platform was busy on Saturday as it opened to Thistle season ticket holders for the first time! Thanks for their assistance. Supporters attending the Energy Check Stadium at Firhill from the start of December 2017 no doubt noticed the brand new accessible viewing platform that is now in place at the south end of the Jackie Husband Stand. The raised platform, located at the back of the stand, will give the club s disabled supporters a better view than ever before and will also mean they are properly sheltered from the elements. Partick Thistle Managing Director, Ian Maxwell said; This project, which was made possible due to funding support received from The, marks a significant improvement in our facilities and will hopefully mean a much improved match day experience for an important section of the club s support. Due to the age of our stadium, facilities for supporters with physical disabilities have probably lagged behind where they should have been. That being said, improving accessibility at the stadium has been a priority for us over the last 18 months with several improvements having already been made. We ve worked closely with the Jags Disabled Supporters Club and the to deliver this project and hope that it will facilitate a much improved match day experience for our fans. Having installed our platform lift at the end of last season, we launched our match day mover shuttle bus scheme in August and have recently increased the number of disabled parking spaces available on match days. On top of those improvements the new viewing platform hopefully goes a long way to making the Jackie Husband Stand a much more attractive and accessible venue, not only for football matches but also for functions, events and hospitality. During the close season, Elgin City F.C. embarked on an ambitious capital project part-funded by the SFP designed to improve spectator welfare provision and changing accommodation for its vibrant youth and community teams at Borough Briggs. The new building, which includes toilets for male, female and disabled spectators also provides two changing rooms as well as a referees changing area. This new facility will certainly enhance the experience of supporters coming to the stadium on match days, as well as allowing the club s community players better access to the adjacent natural grass pitch at Lesser Borough Briggs. Graeme Sutherland, Scottish FA North Region Manager commented There has been a power of work carried out over recent years to improve the club both off the pitch in terms of its actual physical environment and this has been matched by efforts to provide more opportunities to play the game across the local community via the club s ever expanding community programme. The new changing rooms will help support the club in better utilising Lesser Borough Briggs and to facilitate the continued growth within the club s youth and community sections. Graham Tatters, Club Chairman, added On behalf of Elgin City F.C., the community footballers, all the home and visiting supporters, both male and female, I would like to thank The for the financial assistance in support of our new build facilities block. A much needed building only made possible with that assistance thank you. Football Ready for the big game this afternoon kits all hung up thanks New changing rooms being used for the first time thanks to funding #COAPAR New floodlights New dug-outs GRETNA F.C BRECHIN CITY F.C. Gretna F.C was awarded a grant to assist the club in part-funding the upgrade of their floodlighting system at Raydale Park to meet the current lux standards set by the Scottish Lowland League and The Scottish FA. Gretna Supporters Society, who own Gretna F.C. 2008, took over the lease of Raydale Park from the Administrators of Gretna F.C., and unfortunately the floodlights had not been fully maintained and urgently required improvement. Stuart Rome, the club s Chief Executive commented The project has proven to be a complete success from our initial meeting with the SFP to the final installation of the lights. The support provided has been invaluable and our new floodlighting system will make a major difference to our football club in the years ahead. In June, the SFP awarded grant funding to Brechin City F.C. to assist with the replacement of the old brick dugouts at Glebe Park with new team shelters. The project took place during the close season and the players are reported to be delighted with the new home and away shelters. The club advised the that in order to recognise the service and dedication of two long-serving members of the backroom staff who sadly passed away, they have dedicated the home dug-out to their former Sports Therapist, Tommy Gilmartin and the away dug-out to Jack Sunter, the club s former Trainer/Kitman. Club Chairman, Ken Ferguson added Brechin City F.C. was delighted to be able to upgrade our team shelters at the start of this season. With a season in the Championship to look forward to we simply had to replace the old brick dugouts with new modern shelters capable of accommodating the larger squad sizes. This project would not have been possible without the grant aid provided by The whose support and assistance is greatly appreciated by everyone at the club. 8 9
6 New portable changing rooms for grassroots clubs BACK F.R.C. ISLE OF LEWIS DID YOU FOLLOW THE JOURNEY? At the start of July, the SFP s portable changing rooms travelled 271 miles from Edinburgh to Back F.R.C. who are based in Upper Coll on the Isle of Lewis. These new facilities are geared to support the club s current playing membership of just over 209 players and other local members of the Island s community who use the club s state-of-the-art indoor 3G pitch. This facility is key to the continued development of football on the island, particularly in the winter months when it is the norm for there to be over 1,000 individual player visits. We hope our investment of around 40,000 will continue to assist the development of growth at Back F.R.C. and the game of football at grassroots level on the Isle of Lewis. East Craigie J.F.C. awarded support for new clubhouse In December, 2015 disaster struck East Craigie JFC when their clubhouse was severely damaged by flooding. The shipbuilders, one of Scotland s oldest junior football clubs and the oldest club in Dundee, established in 1880, were left fearing for their future when their facility at Craigie Park was finally condemned by Dundee City Council. Fundraising efforts began almost immediately and in addition to support provided by The SFP, the club received invaluable support from Maryfield Community Regeneration Fund as well as from many local sponsors, tradespeople and local businesses. By March, 2017 it was decided to pursue a new build project rather than trying to revive the existing and now condemned clubhouse. After many months of hard work, we then fast forward to October when the club were able to host their first match with their brand new changing pavilion against Brechin Vics, which the home club won 6-1. Club spokesman, Andy Malone said It seems to have been a very long journey, but without the support of The SFP and others we would have struggled to have kept the club going. We are delighted with what we have managed to achieve and will be forever indebted to numerous companies and individuals. The great news for the club is that we have been successful in our last grant application which will enable us to complete the second phase of the project to the same high standards we completed the changing rooms. This will allow us to open the premises to a wider audience and hopefully increase participation of the game at Craigie Park. "The provision of the new modular changing rooms have allowed us to expand on our activities and to make better use of our indoor 3G football pitch. Projects such as this have helped to galvanise our community into one gathering place and we are indebted to The Scottish Football for all their help and look forward to working with them again in the future." 8 Our Trust continues to work tirelessly to support grassroots clubs and organisations in their efforts to encourage and sustain greater participation in football... here's a brief look at what we have been supporting in the past 6 months. New 3G pitch for Fifers For The Community Official FifersFTC 3G Facility supported by @sfa_east #community Benefit Aileen Great to see women out enjoying this great new facility during women in sport week #myjourney The Trust was delighted to be able to assist Fifers for the Community with an award to help with the installation of a new 3G pitch at Bayview Stadium, the home of East Fife F.C. The new pitch will provide a base for East Fife Girls and Women s F.C. and East Fife Youth Academy as well as other local youth and amateur clubs and nearby schools. East Fife F.C. will play their SPFL and Scottish FA matches on the surface and at all other times, the pitch which can provide up to five playing areas will be made available for community use. The Trustees of the charity group, FFTC worked tirelessly to see the project come to fruition and as well as local fundraising, the Trustees managed to successfully secure grant funding from key funding partners including Fife Council, sportscotland and the SFP Trust. The official opening of the new facility (pictured below) took place on Sunday, 1st October, 2017 with a match between East Fife GWFC and Hearts WGFC, with the home club winning the match 2 1. Allan Duthie from FFTC provided some more background to the project and commented For a couple of years Fifers For The Community (FFTC) with the support of East Fife F.C. had been working towards laying a 3G pitch to replace the grass at Bayview Stadium. Both groups had recognised that the facilities at Bayview lay unused for most of the year when, if managed properly, could be turned into a significant community asset. FFTC were delighted when the pitch finally opened for community use earlier in September and within a couple of weeks it was almost fully booked Monday Friday evenings. The main users are East Fife Youth Academy, East Fife Ladies and several local Junior and Amateur teams. From that base, FFTC have hosted several other events during October and November. 2 of these have been Central and East Fife Soccer Sixes tournaments which have both attracted over 300 youngsters and parents and friends. Already Bayview has hosted East Fife Ladies league games and several Youth Academy Cup games We now have the capacity to host community events which are attended by local youngsters and adults, with FFTC and EFFC playing their part by opening up the club facilities to provide hot food and drinks. Now that the core hours are filled, FFTC have started looking at attracting local primary schools to use the facility during the day with transport facilities to and from school being provided. To continue developing the community contribution, FFTC, East Fife F.C. and the Academy are working together to run a session of the SPFL -backed Football Fans In Training. Preliminary discussions have also been held with Disability Sport Fife, Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and the Scottish Prison Service. New Community Football Development Centre BONNYTON THISTLE F.C. The Trust in conjunction with other key partners including East Ayrshire Council, The Scottish FA, sportscotland and the Renewable Energy Fund have assisted Bonnyton Thistle F.C. in developing a state-of-the-art Community Football Development Centre at Townholm in Kilmarnock. Bonnyton Thistle are one of Scotland s premier grassroots organisations and currently hold the prestigious Scottish FA Legacy Level Quality Mark club accreditation due to the level of football activity they provide in the local community. The club operate 19 teams ranging from age 5 (minikickers) through to their new senior team which this year entered the South of Scotland League. In 2013 a new girls section was developed at the club which continues to grow and at present they have 4 teams from Under-7 up to Under-13, as well as a disability section. With almost 400 players and 52 qualified coaches, the club identified that in order to continue to grow and develop, a new facility needed to be created to support this growth. Discussions with East Ayrshire Council led to a Community Asset Transfer of an area of disused land in Townholm which the club, after many years of hard work and fundraising, have now developed into a full size FIFA 2 star pitch with supporting changing facilities. Club Trustee Colin Kennedy said After several years of hard work and collaboration with various funding partners, including The Trust, it s fantastic to see the young kids at our club developing as players on the new playing surface. This facility will only enhance what we can offer our club members and give us further scope for development in future years. As a club, we now have a full player pathway and it s fantastic to see our young squads training alongside our new senior team as it gives them a real focus and something to aspire to as players of Bonnyton Thistle. This project is a good news story for Scottish football and I would like to thank everyone who has supported our journey so far
9 Field of Dreams for Cambusdoon Sports Club CAMBUSDOON F.C. Support for "Show Racism the Red Card Scotland" from The SFP Trust The SFP Trust was delighted in August to announce new funding for Show Racism the Red Card Scotland. This is the third year of support for the delivery of anti racism workshops to grassroots football clubs allowing SRTRC the opportunity to educate young people and coaches with the knowledge to reject prejudiced attitudes and behaviour and empower them to become responsible citizens challenging racism. The programme which is delivered in conjunction with ex-professional footballers including Derek Ferguson, Michael Weir, Gary McSwegan and Brian Irvine will see 30 sessions delivered to 5 grassroots clubs, benefitting 500 young participants. Ruth McGeoch, Campaign Worker at SRTRC commented, Our workshops are not only designed to educate what racism is and what you can do to safely challenge it, but they also have a focus on encouraging inclusivity for all and our participants are encouraged to respect others differences. Pictured below is an educational session with players who are part of Hibernian F.C. s Community squads and in the three sessions which have been deliver so far 54% of the 91 participants said they had witnessed racism in their community. We will continue to work hard in helping reduce statistics like these and we are grateful to The Trust for the support received again this year. A project to ensure safer sport THE SFP TRUST AWARDS FUNDING TO THE SCOTTISH JUNIOR FA AND SCOTTISH YOUTH FA FOR SPORTS FIRST AID. SRtRC First of 3 thanks for funding these essential workshops for young people. @sfa_southwest read more at facebook.com/ scottishfootba... Cambusdoon Big thanks from everyone at Cambusdoon FC. Your support is appreciated and valued. During the early part of this summer, The SFP Trust provided financial assistance to Cambusdoon Sports Club to assist them in upgrading their old all-weather playing surface which, after many years of use, had fallen into disrepair and was no longer fit for purpose. The project to install a new artificial 3G football trainingsize surface involved the sports club pulling together a funding package of around 180,000 and The SFPT was delighted to be able to assist in making the project a reality. Whilst the sports club, based in Ayr, is very much a multi-sports club, this project had a focus on supporting the club s ever-growing football section. The football club was first established in 2012 and has trebled in size to over 110 playing members. It offers football coaching and playing opportunities for boys and girls and recently commenced a new walking football programme aimed at getting members of the community over the age of 50 active and into this format of the game. The new modern 3G surface will help the club with its aspirations to grow and develop and to reach its target within the next 2 years of providing football activity for local youngsters up to U-18 level and beyond into full amateur level. Five other local clubs including Ayr United Football to access training slots on the new pitch which will further increase the positive impact this project will have on football activity on a local level. John Brown, The Scottish FA s South West Region Manager was hugely supportive of this project and commented The football section at Cambusdoon Sports Club has grown significantly in the last 4 years and it has already achieved Development Level within our Quality Mark accreditation scheme and in achieving this has met stringent criteria around structure, communication, coaching standards, child wellbeing and much more. For football to grow within the local community this pitch is absolutely vital and I wish the club well in realising its ambitions of further developing the children s game, youth game, adult game and its girls section. The funding assistance provided by The Scottish Football Trust was integral to our new 3G pitch going ahead as it allowed us to deliver the project in a timeframe that was critical for our football section to continue to grow and develop. This is a good news story for football in our area and I would like to thank The SFP Trust and The Scottish FA for supporting us throughout this process Sam Hornell, Chairman, The SFP Trust recently pledged 38,850 to support an initiative which will part-fund the delivery of Sports First Aid training to 816 volunteer coaches working at Scottish Junior FA and Scottish Youth FA member clubs across Scotland in conjunction with the Hampden Sports Clinic. This funding will reduce the financial burden placed on Junior and Youth football clubs across the country and will help fulfil the aim of having a trained sports First Aider at all matches. This is a huge investment in grassroots football volunteers and demonstrates a duty of care at these matches and ensures that the best possible help is available on the sidelines for any accidents or injuries which could occur during a match an element of safety which is crucial to all concerned within the domestic game. Dr. John MacLean from the Hampden Sports Clinic commented; The National Sports First Aid (NSFA) course is designed to make sport safer by improving the knowledge of those who provide touchline care in football. Following feedback from previous course participants the original 2 day course has been updated to allow the candidates to read the theory in advance of a single more practical, scenario-based day. The practical sessions are based on a number of scenarios commonly seen in football. These include both injury management such as head injury and concussion as well as soft tissue and bone injury. Medical conditions including asthma and seizures are covered as well as the vital basic life-support skills. No prior knowledge is expected the course is designed for those with no medical or injury knowledge but is equally applicable for those who have some experience of managing illness or injury in sport. Academy s Girls and Women s section will also be able Cambusdoon Sports Club
10 Here's a snapshot of some of our other projects and initiatives Jack Massive thanks for delivering another Scotland tour. We are hugely grateful #footballforall 3 day tour of Scotland for Football Beyond Borders (FBB) We hosted a three day tour of Scotland for Football Beyond Borders (FBB), an education charity based in London which uses the power of football to inspire young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to achieve their goals and make their voices heard. The youngsters took part in games at Spartans, St. Mirren and Kilmarnock and enjoyed an informative tour of Celtic Park hearing about the fantastic work in the community undertaken by the Celtic F.C. Foundation. Funds for new floodlights Budhill Football Academy from Glasgow s east end received funding to help with the purchase of portable floodlights to allow regular winter training for the club s 90 grassroots players, both boys and girls within the Amulrea Recreation Area. 90 PLAYERS TO BENEFIT FROM PORTABLE FLOODLIGHT FUNDING.
