1 Office of Student Affairs Athletics Department Varsity Teams Trip to Valencia Spain April 19 23, 2017

2 Introduction: 38 varsity team members and 9 officials from the University of Balamand participated in EuroValencia 2017 an international sports tournament in Valencia, Spain from 19 to 23 April It is an inter-universities tournament intended to promote sports and to stimulate its practice in a university environment. 29 international universities participated in different sports games. The tournament was competitive, especially that amongst the different participating delegations there were European teams with top international players. Still the Table Tennis Men team took the first and second places, The table tennis women team took the first place, the track and field men team took the first and second places, the track and field women took the first place, the swimming women team took the first and second places and the futsal men team took the Second place. The UOB teams were distinguished for their team spirit, performance and subordination. The director of athletics (Tony Dib) and his assistant (Samar Nabti) together with the athletic instructors (Wassim Zakhem, Wassim Hawly, Ibrahim Fayad, Nabil Nasr, Jad Yammine and Rajaa Chatah) and the physiotherapist Jack Chahda played a key role in helping students cope with the high level of game challenges and made sure to spread a family environment and positive spirit throughout the trip. Detailed results for Futsal, Handball, Track & Field, Swimming and Table Tennis are provided in Appendix B: - Futsal Men Tournament: There were 8 participating teams. UOB Futsal Men Team ranked second in the Tournament. - Futsal Women Tournament: There were 8 participating teams. UOB Futsal Women Team was ranked fourth in the pool; the team didn t qualify to the second round. - Handball Men Tournament: There were 4 participating Teams. UOB Handball Men Team didn t qualify to the second round. - Track & Field Men Tournament: There were 8 participants. Three students from UOB participated in the 5000 m Race (Hanna Lakkis, Alaa El Tom and Michel Nasr). Hanna Lakkis ranked first, Michel Nasr ranked second and Alaa El Tom ranked third in the tournament. 2

4 - Track & Field Women Tournament: There were 5 participants. One student from UOB participated in the 5000 m Race (Angela Khoury). Angela Khoury ranked first in the tournament. - Table Tennis Men Tournament: There were 4 participants. Two students from UOB participated in the tournament (Ghadi Chaccour and Mario Bou Jaoude). Ghadi Chaccour ranked first and Mario Bou Jaoude ranked second in the tournament. - Table Tennis Women Tournament: There were 4 participants. Two students from UOB participated in the tournament (Floriane El Murr and Jana Daher). Floriane El Murr ranked first in the tournament. - Swimming Women Competition: There were 6 participants. Three students from UOB participated in the tournament (Lynn Hallab, Yara Atie and Nathalie Rachid). Lynn Hallab took 5 gold medals and 1 silver medal while Nathalie Rachid took 4 silver medals. Comments: UOB delegation benefited from the opportunity of being in Spain and took a touristic tour on Thursday April 21 st to the City of Valencia. No injuries or incidents were recorded during the entire Trip. There was a delay of 3 and half hours for the return flight from Istanbul to Beirut. Prepared By Toni Dib, Athletics Director April 26,
